The Miami Dolphins AFC East stack up by adding depth to the linebacker position. What is their plan with improving at Corner? Will this be addressed in Free Agency, the draft or are we finally trusting Cam Smith? Tobin does the unthinkable and endorses Mac Jones.

00:00Miami Dolphins in their free agent frenzy, they have just signed a linebacker Leroy KJ
00:06Britt from Tampa Bay. Started a few games last year for them. I think he started 11
00:11games for him last year, 14 over his career, add a little linebacker depth to the Dolphins.
00:18Um, I just think they're, they're trying to, you know, gradually improve at certain positions
00:26based on what's available. I'm not mad. Well, thank you, Bobby. Uh, the only things that they,
00:33the things that they haven't touched on yet that they, I guess need to, um, unless they're going
00:40to go in house. I mean, like the, the thing that's very noticeable is corner, right? Like
00:43they let Kendall Fuller go. Uh, are they going with Cam Smith to start this year? Are they going
00:50to go sign somebody? I don't know. I mean, I don't know. I don't know. It's
00:55draft the, uh, the Michigan corner. Even if they do, I feel like we haven't had success with like
00:59drafting corners, such a weird thing that they're so good at finding undrafted corners,
01:04but they stink at drafting corners. Right. Right. It like, I think a lot, a lot of people get
01:15in positions where in, in it's their own fault where every decision has to work,
01:24right? There's a lot of teams out there that have made decisions that have just been duds.
01:32But when you're trying to catch up to those teams, it seems like your decisions on how you spend
01:40your money, who you draft, who you bring in has to work. Um, even more a case in point
01:48when you look at Philadelphia and look at some of the defensive players they brought in,
01:55right? Hell they had a pro, uh, uh, uh, uh, they had a all pro who was a special team's
02:03got a year before. Oh yeah. Was that bond? Yeah. So like while we're sitting here,
02:11the Dolphins had that too, with the van Ginkle, they let him walk. Right. So it's hard to
02:18determine because you may not know the name. No, I don't know. But that's, that's the thing that
02:23I'm wondering is are the dolphins. Cause I don't know how the dolphin fan feels about this. This
02:28is the thing that's like, are they going to go into this year and give basically cam Smith the
02:35keys? I guess if it doesn't work with storm duck is, is there to kind of hold the Ford? Are you
02:42bringing maybe a veteran that you think, but I would imagine a guy that you drafted in the second
02:47round who was your first pick that year though, he very much, very clearly didn't go well with,
02:55uh, with, with Fangio and got a bunch of injuries and didn't really seem like when
03:00Anthony Walker was that big a fan either. Are they really going into this thing and being like,
03:06get them, get them young chap. Cause it is year three. Like it's kind of break it off.
03:10Is it not? Yeah. Yeah. All. Yeah. That's, that's accurate that you don't want
03:18to draft the guy in the first couple of rounds. And after year three, still have questions about
03:27where there's going to work out. I think at some point because you drafted him that high,
03:36you should have already seen some signs of flash and we haven't seen it. Um, that being said,
03:45that being said, like they've put themselves in a position where everything has to work and
03:55it really doesn't always work. That's, and it's not just with the dolphins. We only see the teams
04:04that it worked out for. When you look at what Detroit did with the running backs and stuff
04:11like that. When you look at what the Eagles did, right. Um, it doesn't mean that you're
04:19making bad decisions. Now the free agency has not been very conducive to getting quality players.
04:30And if you look at free agency, even the guys that made a ton of money in free agency,
04:37they all had questions. Somebody got 80, somebody got 80 million. It was a backup in Philly.
04:44Oh, this has been a very boring free agency. I don't feel like there's really been one. I know
04:48that people like were crazy because the bears redid their trenches, but like, you know, act like,
04:51you know who the good linemen are and free agency, like every fan's line. Exactly. So it's like,
04:57I feel like it's been like, there's been interesting trades that have led to big
05:00deals like the DK Metcalf thing or whatever ends up happening with the Bengals.
05:05Like those are flashy. Those are splashy. But right now this has kind of been like, all right,
05:10I'm going to take your word for it. Like the dog, because unless you, as a Dolphin fan,
05:14when you watch free agency, the only thing that you're like, you spent how much on who?
05:18And they really haven't had a moment like that. So the only one, and the only one that's of
05:23controversy right now is the backup quarterback. Cause you're like, you're paying Zach Wilson.
05:27Like I saw, I saw Mac Jones made, got 3 million, 3 million a year from the 49ers. And I was like,
05:33I can't believe I'm saying this. This is right up there with my bread. Farf. Don't,
05:39don't please. I think I would have preferred back Jones.
05:44No, you don't have to clip that. Oh yeah. But he's got actually like, Hey,
05:49Hey, you, you say something and then all of a sudden you see this.
05:54But I don't like, hold on one second. No, no, no.
05:58I understand. You can't take it back. Hold on though. The man has genuine starting experience.
06:08Okay. He was a pro bowler. Don't do this. He wasn't like, if we're going to do this,
06:13if Leroy's going to go, Oh, they were, they're always a play. He was a pro bowler. He was a pro
06:18bowler. And you can't take that away from Zach Wilson. Wasn't a pro bowl. No one ever,
06:22no one would bring Zach Wilson to the toilet bowl. He was a pro bowler and he started last
06:28year. He had to do what they did that last year with whichever Lawrence, the Jaguars, they sucked,
06:33but 3 million for like, would you, if I had to put it out here, all right.
06:406 million for Zach Wilson who played no games last year, but you know, Hey, that guy's got a real
06:46chooch doesn't know where to throw it when he's got a chooch or boring McCorkle for half the price.
06:51So, so here's the other thing you have to understand about free agency.
06:57Who's to say McCorkle wasn't asking for the Daniel Jones contract because he was a starter
07:04and a pro bowler. And he ended up with only 3 million. So you don't know at this time of the
07:11signings, both of these, both of these guys were asking for, that's fair to say, I would have
07:16read that this guy had to like all the quarterbacks got signed. He was trying to get more
07:22money and it didn't work out. So he has to just get a job. So let's, let's, let's not just all
07:28of a sudden make these assumptions on the table. You had 6 million here or 3 million here. And you
07:36went with the 6 million that 3 million could have been eight or 9 million at the time when you had
07:41to make your decision. I'm to believe that Zach Wilson had more suitors after him out of the gate
07:48of free agency than Mac, than Mac Jones did know the price, but his price was more expensive. No,
07:55you think, wait, wait, wait, wait. And I just, did you just hear what I said? Yes. That's what
08:00I'm asking. You ended up being 3 million when the dolphins decided to sign Zach Wilson.
08:07Who's to say McCorkle wasn't at eight or 9 million because he was a starter and a pro bowler.
08:13Now who's to say he didn't want that same contract that, uh, what's the name got in,
08:18in Indianapolis. I think that kind of goes to my point. Like you wouldn't, you wouldn't wait for,
08:22like, so, so you tell him to wait and then wait, wait, wait, hold on. Hold on. Here's where it
08:29gets tricky. You wanted him to wait. And what if both of them had gotten signed? I have a hard
08:35time believing this is just me. I'm just, I'm just saying, I'm not, I'm not dismissing what
08:39you're saying, but let me just, my opinion would be, I have a hard time believing that there was
08:45a bunch of suitors for Zach Wilson. I got a hard time believing it. He played no games last year.
08:52Did you have a hard time believing that the senior Bosa was going to get 12 and a half million
08:59for not playing? Um, I didn't find it that surprising. It's shocking. Most of the numbers,
09:05hold on. Most of the numbers around there were 10 million. People were talking like 10 million.
09:09Now the Dolphins, apparently the reports where they offered, uh, less than eight. So the Dolphins
09:12really did have a sticking point on price. Right. There was reports that, uh, I think San Francisco
09:17was around 10. So if one team wasn't going to spend any cash, basically like, all right, let's
09:21give them 12 million. Like if the bill, who are the bills going to spend money on this off season?
09:26Right. No, I don't think if he got 20 million, you know, it's, it wasn't that it wasn't that out
09:32of the realm of the numbers I was seeing. Right. I just saw, I was like Mack Jones making three
09:37and a half or two years. I was like, that just seems more reasonable than Zach Wilson getting
09:416 million for what? Right. I'm just saying that at, at the time, at the time, right.
09:52You don't know what these two guys were asking for. I don't. And all you see is the end result
09:59and to say, I would rather had the $300 million guy. Sure. With the Dolphins. No, at the time.
10:06So you're telling me the Dolphins got foisted in 72 hours. No, I'm saying that I bet you
10:16that Mack Jones contract or his asking price was a lot higher because he was a pro bowler and
10:27he was a starter. He ends up in San Francisco, which wasn't the whole rumors that when they
10:32drafted Trey Lance, they really wanted Mack Jones the whole time. Yeah. And that they were
10:36too embarrassed to draft Mack Jones at three. Yeah. So instead they drafted a guy that they're
10:43not going to pay Purdy either. They're going to, they're going to play hard ball with Purdy.
10:46That's weird, right? They're going to play hard ball with your boy, Brock Purdy, their frog boy.
10:51Hey man, as long as he stays mobile, the other, the other thing he probably needs to do is stay
10:58healthy while you sit in here looking at all this mobile stuff. He's been banged up the last couple
11:04of years. Run away from the hits. No, he hasn't been able to. Gotta get more mobile.
11:11See, like there's a, like, like, so look, it, it, it's, it's good for, it's cool for us to say,
11:24we don't know who this guy is or this guy is or this guy is. But we, we have an example of last
11:29year where the Philly fans were, you know, having a fit that the only splash that they made was
11:37Saquon Barkley. Right. That they didn't really fans making a, making a, they wanted to fire
11:42their coach in the beginning of the year. Yeah, but not over moves. They were, they were mad
11:45because the coach, but the reason they wanted to fire their coach was because the coach, the year
11:51what he says crazy things. He's a mush. No, the reason that they wanted to is because there was
11:56a lot of talk in the locker room that there was a lot of stars on that team who had lost
12:01their belief in him. Like, remember they had a collapse the year before and fell off the rails.
12:08Like that's the reason why everybody was, was distrustful. And then you remember you had the
12:11whole thing with Brandon Graham going on the radio. They're basically saying that Jalen hurts
12:15and AJ Brown still hate each other. And they're like, this guy can't control the locker room.
12:19That had nothing to do with their off season moves. By the way, you're never going to control
12:23that. There's just guys that don't like each other. All you can do is teach them to be
12:27professional. That's maybe not, but, but that's, that's where it came from. I had nothing to do
12:31with the off season moves. I just, I just think first of all, the, the, the free agency this year
12:41hasn't been, you know, big names here or there. Most of it has been trades
12:46and most of it has been giving offensive linemen ridiculous contracts because we see the importance
12:56of it. I E there's five guys that got Robert Hunt deals. Yeah. And we reacted like that when Robert
13:03Hunt got that deal, though, he did make the pro bowl. So, so from, from, from that standpoint,
13:10I'm going to be a little more cautious into evaluating what's going on simply because I've
13:16seen situations where guys got signed that I had no idea who they were by teams and it ended up
13:22working out. I'm not saying it's going to work out, but I'm saying that the needs that you had
13:31had, and everybody can, you know, everybody knows this offensive line, those offensive linemen that
13:39were getting all that money, you wouldn't have been happy if the dolphins would have gave them
13:43all that money because half of them were either banged up, hurt or whatever. He got offensive
13:49linemen that tours Achilles, right. But he was really good before that. Yeah. And all you can do
13:56is kind of hope it works out. Um, that being said, I think, and I believe that there'll be
14:06more deals around draft time or the dolphins are going to have to do really well in the draft.
14:15Oh, they have to, and there can't be any, especially with as many picks they got.
14:21They haven't had it right. They haven't had this many picks in a while. They haven't had
14:24this many picks in a while. They got that. I mean, like you got to hit on like, like they got it.
14:29They got to get people who can provide for this team, like those picks, but here's the deal.
14:35Here's the deal. In the past, you have signed veterans brought in young guys that needed
14:46development. Well, that needs to change in that you need to draft guys who can be contributors,
14:52who might not have the greatest upsize, but you know, they, you can depend on them on the football
14:56field right away. Right. Which kind of brings us back to our starting point of like, do they trust
15:01their corner? They drafted two years ago to be a starter now. Like, I don't know. I would say we
15:07got, this is one of the things you got to wait out because like, like to say at this point in time,
15:13whether they trust him or not, when the off season process is probably a quarter into it.
15:23You know, by the end of the summer or by July or the end of May, right? May, June, July in there.
15:33If they trust him enough to put him on the field and be a starter based on the moves,
15:38they make who they draft or whatever, you'll find out rather relatively quick.
