18-year-old Hassan Sentamu has been sentenced to at least 23 years for murdering 15-year-old Elianne Andam in Croydon. Paying tribute to the late teenager following the sentencing, her cousin Gideon said: "She was a light in all of our lives. Our only hope now is that real change will come from this tragedy - knife crime is taking too many lives."

00:00Today marks the end of a painful chapter but there is no justice that can truly
00:05bring us peace. No sentence will ever bring back our beloved Eliane, our
00:09beautiful, kind and faithful daughter, sister, cousin and friend as well. She
00:15was a light in all our lives, full of love for her family, her friends and her
00:19God. While we are grateful that the legal system has done what it can, the truth is
00:24that no amount of time in prison will ease our grief or fill the void that
00:29left by her prison. Our only hope now is that the real change comes from this
00:33tragedy. Now crime is robbing too many lives. We do not want another family to
00:39stand where we are today, mourning a life taken too soon. Eliane's life was stolen
00:44at an instant, yet the punishment handed down does not reflect the irreversible
00:49damage done. There is no sentence that can bring our daughter Eliane back but
00:53there must be accountability that honours her memory and protects others
00:57from suffering the same fate. We will not stand silent. This is not just about
01:01Eliane Andam, it's about building a justice system that truly balances
01:06compassion with consequence.
