00:00A celebration for new nurses and midwives, beginning their postgraduate training in Adelaide's
00:08north.
00:09So I'm only five weeks in but honestly I've never felt more supported.
00:13While the health minister was highlighting the best February ambulance response times
00:17since COVID, a parliamentary committee was being told the state's health system remains
00:22under severe strain.
00:24A senior emergency doctor saying more ambulances doesn't mean less waiting.
00:28Now if you have more ambulances, there's more ambulances to ramp so the number will go up.
00:35The doctor's union is concerned that clinicians aren't being consulted about how to improve
00:39the situation.
00:41Along the way we've lost sight that clinicians are the ones who are best placed to provide
00:45care to patients and watching what's happening now I'm very worried that the tail of the
00:53dog is wagging health.
00:55The opposition will very much be taking the lead from clinicians as to us forming our
01:00policies at the next election.
01:02We are doing every single thing that we possibly can to improve our performance, to reduce
01:07ramping and to make sure that patients get seen on time including hiring these massive
01:12numbers of new nurses to staff massive numbers of extra beds.
01:16New staff needed to improve a system continually under strain.
