00:00Bynalong in southern New South Wales is more than 15,000km from Ukraine, but the village
00:09has declared itself a close ally after President Volodymyr Zelensky's tense encounter with
00:14Donald Trump at the White House.
00:16I was disgusted actually, because here's this man coming for help and he's belittled.
00:23It's schoolyard bullying and we don't accept that anywhere.
00:28In solidarity, one of Bynalong's cafes has increased the price of American-owned products.
00:34We call it a tariff because I think it's the word of the week.
00:37With Coca-Cola products, we've put a dollar tariff on it.
00:41Jim Beam and Cola, we've put a $2 tariff on it.
00:45They've also removed imported American spirits from the shelves, with a view to sourcing
00:49local replacements.
00:50I'd say it's more and more important.
00:53I think we saw that during COVID, we're seeing that now with tariffs being brought in on
00:58Australian steel.
01:00And changed how they fly the stars and stripes.
01:03We've turned that upside down.
01:05It actually symbolises a state of distress.
01:08The community's right behind us, they've been very generous, very supportive.
01:13By charging extra for American-owned products like this, the cafe is also hoping to build
01:18up a fund to support Ukraine.
01:21The owners are matching every dollar that's raised, with the proceeds going to the Australian
01:26Red Cross Crisis Appeal for Ukraine.
01:29It's just typical of Binalong to be a supportive community and help anybody out that needs
01:34help.
01:35We just felt we needed to do something.
01:37If any little bit can help, why not?
01:39And let's hope it spreads a bit.
01:41Jan and Adrian say they won't lift their tariffs until President Trump changes his attitude
01:47towards Ukraine.
