Chris Philp has joined the daughter of Sir David Amess to call for a public inquiry into his death. It comes just two days after Home Secretary Yvette Cooper rejected the MP's family's calls for the inquiry. Speaking during a meeting with the daughter of the late MP, Mr Philp said: "We do need to properly get to the bottom of the systemic failings in the Prevent system and only a proper inquiry can do that." 00:00I completely support Katie and Julia in their campaign to have a proper inquiry into what
00:08happened to David, our friend and colleague, but also the other cases where Prevent has
00:13failed because it's not just David's case or the case in Southport. There have been
00:17multiple other cases where Prevent has failed, the murders in Reading being an example, but
00:23there are many others as well in recent years. And I think we do need to properly get to
00:27the bottom of the systemic failings in the Prevent system, and really only a proper inquiry
00:34can do that.
00:35So up until a week ago, or two weeks ago, there wasn't any support, but now I think
00:40more people are coming out of the woodwork. Obviously Andrew's here, he's fully supporting
00:44us, Kemi is supporting us, Priti said she supports us, so hopefully now people can see
00:51how much devastation this has caused the wider party and the Labour Party. You know, this
00:56isn't about politics, it's about humanity, so we want people from across the government
01:00to come forward and support us, because that's what my dad did, he worked with everybody,
01:04it didn't matter if you were Conservative or Labour, you were his friend, his colleague,
01:08and he would help you, so we're just hoping that people from across government come out
01:12and support us.
