Chris Philp has supported calls for a public inquiry into the anti-terror programme 'Prevent'. It comes as the daughter of the late Sir David Amess, a Conservative MP who was murdered during a constitutency surgery in 2021, said she believes the Southport attacks may not have happened if there had been a full public inquiry into her father's death three years ago. Mr Philp said: "I think we do need a proper inquiry to look at these systemic issues where Prevent or mental health services have failed to take dangerous people off the streets." Report by Kennedyl. 00:00We've seen a number of tragic murders in recent years and the one we discussed in
00:04Parliament today was Sir David Amess, our late colleague who was tragically
00:07murdered by an Islamist terrorist and we saw in that case Prevent looking at this
00:13perpetrator some years before and failing to take action. We've seen that
00:18in other cases as well where either Prevent reviews have failed or mental
00:23health services has failed. People have been very disturbed but have not been
00:26sectioned or detained so I think we do need a proper inquiry to look at these
00:30systemic issues where Prevent or mental health services have failed to take
00:35dangerous people off the streets.
