00:00Various groups have expressed their support for the Philippine government's decision
00:04to uphold its commitment to the International Colonel Police Organization, or Interpol,
00:09which led to the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte over crimes against humanity
00:14charges before the International Criminal Court, or ICC.
00:19During the Palace Press briefing, Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary and Palace
00:25Press Officer Attorney Claire Castro read statements from different sectors endorsing
00:31the arrest of the former leader.
00:33Yusef Castro further highlighted that the move is not an act of vengeance, but a pursuit
00:38of justice for the victims and families affected by the previous administration's war on
00:44drugs.
00:45The Free Legal Assistance Group, or FLAG, welcomed the government's action, calling
00:50it a crucial step towards holding Duterte accountable for the alleged extrajudicial
00:56killings, or EJKs.
00:58The Commission on Human Rights, or CHR, also voiced its support, describing the development
01:03as a positive step.
01:05The group noted the importance of ensuring that those responsible for violence and abuses
01:10face justice, highlighting the need to end the culture of impunity.
