00:00Do you have a 2-0 defeat against a physically powerful Hamworth, Villerside, you know what
00:07to expect from them but thoughts on that?
00:09Yeah for me they're always a difficult side to play against, even more so now with the
00:15age of our group if I'm honest and it's a real learning curve for a lot of them because
00:20everything they did is what our boys can't really do, it's the consistency and decision
00:25making, making the right decisions, I thought they were good to be fair, I thought they
00:30were aggressive in the way they pressed, they were all on the same page, they got leaders,
00:36they got players who played a better level and it showed if I'm honest, it really showed
00:41in the dominance of the game, we couldn't do anything, I think we had one half chance
00:46that Sheck scuffed, saying that the game wasn't really littered with chances, the pitch wasn't
00:53great again and set pieces again, they scored two set pieces but if I'm honest, it flattered
01:00us a little bit that we lost 2-0, it could have been, I think if they had, I don't know,
01:06Jakes had two, three saves I think, the keeper hadn't had any, I don't think we've had a
01:10corner so that shows we were camped in our half quite a bit, couldn't get out, didn't
01:15have the physicality to get out, couldn't clear the ball to get out but that's all to
01:19do with how they pressed us, they put us under pressure, the boys panicked, we just said
01:24in there sometimes you were panicking when you had a little bit more time than you thought
01:28you did and that's credit to the opposition that they forced them into that basically
01:34with their chat, the way they are on the pitch. So yeah, they're probably one of the, I always
01:40say when we played them there, we were terrible when we played them there, I thought we competed
01:47alright, we competed as much as we could but it was just a step too far and if they're
01:52not in and around it, I'll be surprised.
01:54Yeah, I mean they are literally right on the coach's side of those play-offs aren't they
01:58and you know what to expect from them and as you say for your young side, it is obviously
02:02a bit of a learning experience for them against a side like that.
02:06Yeah, I mean we've thrown Luke in tonight for his debut, he's come off the bench but
02:12it's a completely different game, you come on against Kingstonian where they're a nice
02:15team where you've got to press and you get a little bit more time on the ball, they're
02:20not overly physical, they're a nice team whereas tonight they got a bit of everything. He's
02:25got involved in a couple of things, he's got smashed and there are sorts of things that
02:30you've got to get used to, every week's not going to be nice and pretty. So yeah, it's
02:35a good experience for them to compete against teams like that and they need to learn from
02:39it and try and improve next time, try and show a little bit more quality. Like I said,
02:44I don't think the result would have changed but I think if the pitch was better we might
02:48have been able to play a little bit more. It made it really difficult.
02:53Yeah, I mean obviously it's not ideal to play the game that you obviously ideally want to
02:56play is it?
02:57No, because it creates panic. There's no true role and they know that, they're players who
03:04have done it over and over and over, they make good decisions and our boys just can't
03:11do that yet, not consistently.
03:14Obviously a bit of a question mark about whether the first goal crossed the line or not?
03:18The boys are adamant it never went in and the thing is it's got to be that we see on
03:22VAR and stuff and I don't want to go, it's non-league football. So if he's sure it's
03:26gone over and he's given it, that's fair enough but the boys are adamant the whole of the
03:29ball was not over the line. Kyle was behind the goal, he said the whole ball wasn't over
03:33the line. It was almost, you know, again it's a guess. For me it's a guess, there's
03:39too many bodies in the way, however you can see that it's got to be right in the goal
03:43and it wasn't. I could tell by the players' reactions that they were pretty sure it didn't
03:49go over, do you know what I mean? We saw Jake, like I say, they're too naive to pretend
03:55that it didn't go over, they ain't got that in them. So the fact the way they behaved
04:00and responded to what happened suggests that it didn't go over the line but it's been
04:05given. Again, we look at that, we talk about moments for our team at the minute, like Saturday
04:11we had a couple of moments where we should be going in and scoring to go 2-1 up and we
04:15don't. We've had a moment where we've got the chance to put a good ball in the box,
04:19when they break it, corner and score from it. And they're the things that they can't
04:24quite get, those things affect the next thing. So you get a free kick, it's got to be on
04:29the money. Theirs were pretty much every time, we were having to defend it with our
04:34lives because they put good balls in.
04:36Yeah, I mean you know what you get from them but they do put good balls in the box, don't
04:39they?
04:40Yeah, because they've got good quality. Charlie showed it on Saturday, his deliveries were
04:44decent but tonight, two he added, were poor and one of them resulted in them breaking
04:50down the other end, getting a corner and scoring from it. So within 30 seconds you're behind.
04:57And that's the first goal of the game, which in any game is always obviously crucial.
05:01Yeah, looking at how that first half went, as soon as they scored, we weren't getting
05:05anything out of that game. We just weren't good enough physically, bullied by their centre
05:11backs. But I'd expect that with the levels they've played. Some of our boys haven't played
05:15any sort of level, they're a bit naive, aren't clever enough to buy stuff. So I'm like,
05:21just stay on your feet, just be strong. You're not going to win stuff because you're not
05:25going to compete against them trying to be clever.
05:27Obviously you know about their physicality but what was the message at half-time to try
05:33and affect things in the second half?
05:36Yeah, we just told them, you've got maybe a little bit more time than you think. I think
05:41adding a little bit of quality that we did in the second half showed at times and it's
05:46good to have Kai back, it's good to get Cam on the pitch for some more minutes. But we
05:51need them boys starting if we're going to try and get any points on the board. They
05:57need to be fit and playing and they make a difference.
06:01Obviously Kai and Cam are key players, working their way back off the bench, so looking to
06:05build them up for a start. I mean, Harrowborough is that too soon?
06:08Yeah, Kai's trained, he didn't feel right Saturday. It was good to get him on the pitch
06:13tonight. We'll see how he trains on Thursday. But you obviously want players of that quality
06:18in the team because he was doing really, really well. It's a shame that he's missed
06:22so much of the season because he had really progressed with his football. Cam will probably
06:27be hoping to get a start. I think we need that quality on the pitch because it makes
06:32a difference.
06:33Any thoughts now on the trip to Harrowborough?
06:36I haven't been there for years so I don't know what the pitch is like. I know when we
06:41played I thought we were the better team and we ended up 3-0 down at half-time and then
06:47come back to 3-2 and probably should have snatched an equaliser. But again, we had chances
06:52in that game where we didn't take the moments and they punished us from a long throw, a
06:58direct free kick that got deflected and then a corner and we found ourselves 3-0 down at
07:03half-time. But I didn't watch them and go, oh my God. Whereas tonight I looked in and
07:08thought we ain't getting anything. We could be out here all day, they'll just carry on,
07:12they'll bully us. If we started that game again it would be the same outcome.
