00:00Vic, now a 2-1 defeat against Hornedean, really sort of tight game that there. Thoughts on that one?
00:07Yeah, I mean, it's tough to take. I felt we were very good from the start. Two little sort of half little errors from individuals cost us two goals again.
00:17I mean, we're in the habit at the moment of having players who are new to the level, so that little half a yard of an error or half a yard of a little dwelling on possession or letting your man get half a yard of space,
00:27costs us and we've conceded a lot of goals from it. But in terms of going forward, we always will look for it. We implemented the game plan today again, which was obviously very, very tough for a good team.
00:37We've not even conceded a goal yet. So for us to be at 8-1 all and then an error causing us to lose the game, it's disappointing. But we take the positives and we will definitely move on from it.
00:47Yeah, plenty of positives to say. It was a really competitive game, weren't it? Had chances there, plenty of good play. I guess that's all stuff you've got to build on now.
00:55Yeah, 100%. I mean, we lost 80% of the boys last year. So most of the boys that are in now, they're all learning the habits of what we want to see. It's coming along nicely.
01:03As much as we'd have wanted to be ready by when the first game of the season had started, but with how we sort of work in terms of recruitment and getting players in, they're all young.
01:11So they need time to dwell and sort of improve on good habits that they'll need to show in this level in order to push on as well. So yeah, we'll definitely push on and definitely improve.
01:21And obviously it was the same last year, wasn't it? In terms of getting the group in late and young players and you obviously managed to build from there last year. So presumably you can take confidence from that going into this year.
01:31Yeah, 100%. I still quite simply believe we're in a better place this year than we were last year. Only reason being is because we've got, I think, no disrespect to where we had last year at the start of the year.
01:40But we've got a lot of hungry players this year who all want to push on or who've all just come out of academies and want to get back into full-time football.
01:46So the drive and the culture that they have is very, very different to what we started the season with last year. But they're quick learners, as you can see. They're improving quickly. Every game is a good experience for them.
01:55So come maybe FA Cup next week or FA Trophy, we'll definitely be ready to start making all the hard work pay off. So yeah, all good.
02:04The Edmund Gollas, he comes from across and a sort of emphatic head. I guess he would have liked to close that down, ideally.
02:11Yeah, I mean, it started from the build-up. So, like I said, half a yard of space. Joe, he was outstanding throughout the game. But just that one time that he wasn't aggressive enough, the striker got a little half a yard of space and just sort of put the ball out wide.
02:23And there's so much space for him to put the ball in if there's not a centre-half in there. And obviously a good header from the mate, to be fair to him, a good leap as well. But we could have still dealt with it better.
02:32But again, it's a good learning curve for the boys and we just learn from it and go on.
02:36But it didn't seem to knock you though. You still sort of kept playing, still had chances going into half-time.
02:40Yeah, definitely. I mean, if you look at territory in the game, you know, we were definitely in and around the half, probably I'd say 90% of the game. It was ours for the taking.
02:50And there's always the momentum, you know, when you don't take those opportunities, especially in the first half when we had a few little half chances. Should have taken it, should have done better.
02:58But again, you know, it's the level, it's people bringing quality to the table. And I mean, they showed that with that one moment of play, great header, back of the net, counter-attack on the second goal because we lost good possession, lost the ball, back of the net.
03:10And then, you know, they just sat off and then tried to ride it out. So we'll take the positives and move on.
03:14What was the message at half-time going into that second half?
03:17I mean, the message at half-time was to play with a bit more pride. I think the boys were still a shadow of themselves, giving a few teams too much respect.
03:23Because I think, you know, again, the mentality, the level where they're like, oh, I'll play step forward today.
03:29So it's one of those ones where actually you deserve to be on the pitch as much as they do.
03:33They haven't shown any difference in quality. The only bit of quality they've shown is to get them to go up and we can definitely do that.
03:39We managed to get ourselves back in it. And it's just a shame we just couldn't get that towards the end.
03:43But I'm proud of the performance. I'm proud of the habits that we're showing. And I'm proud of us sort of being able to be resilient and push.
03:49And especially, you know, not conceding more than two is another positive for us as well. And being more secure at the back is good.
03:54So you came out in the second half and did get that equaliser, you know, hardly good composure there. And that was deserved really good from him there.
04:02Yeah, no, he deserves it. He's been here from day one of pre-season. He's been patient. He's been seeing the recruitment that we're doing.
04:07So he's one that, you know, he's playing a different position for us as well.
04:10You know, being a winger, playing as a nine, he's learning as he goes along.
04:13But, you know, I mean, that's his third goal already. So it's good for him. So he's got to keep pushing on.
04:18Yeah. So when they regained the lead, they just sort of tried to shut the game down, didn't they?
04:22They weren't quite physical, which I guess you may have come to expect.
04:25I mean, they went back into a back five, which was obviously inevitable at this level.
04:29Teams do set up that way against us to reduce us from having possession.
04:33But the directness of our play enables us to create chances.
04:36And, you know, unfortunately, they knew that and they just sat back and just killed the space.
04:40But we still looked a threat. And I'm very, very proud of the fact that we tried to problem solve, but just felt a little bit short.
04:47And now just sort of, as you say, see where threats do get going and sort of take momentum into the FA Cup now.
04:52And that's sort of one to look forward to against Craig Valley.
04:54Yeah, I'm just going to put a lot of work between Saturday and today.
04:57A little bit of rest on Thursday and then we're back out on Saturday again, which will be a good test again.
05:01I mean, if we turn out the way we did today with a bit more quality, I think, yeah, it's definitely a result we will get.
05:06So there's no issues there.
