Aliens! Where Are you? Join us online for Bermondsey Welcomes Refugee’s fundraising event.
Live online public lecture with Dr Francisco Diego, UCL
What to expect
From ancient beliefs that the Earth was a unique world created by divine powers, to the amazing discoveries that bravely challenged those misconceptions, in this lecture we explore the fascinating theme of life in a Universe in constant change, from a very simple and remote origin.
But, what is life? and how could it develop on Earth to the high level of diversity and complexity that we see today?
With thousands of millions of other worlds in our Milky Way galaxy, should we expect alien intelligence virtually everywhere? Would our search for answers, help us find inspiration, and rather look deep into ourselves, address our fragility, our recent origin as a human species and our cosmic responsibility to preserve this precious and unique paradise?
The presentation will last for around 45 min, after which there will be a live discussion (by text).
Dr Francisco Diego, FRAS, is a Senior Teaching Fellow at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University College London, vice president of the UK Association for Astronomy Education and a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society.
Bermondsey Welcomes Refugees is a recently formed local community group of volunteers working towards welcoming a refugee family into the borough. It is a big commitment, but with a dedicated team and further support from local volunteers we will achieve our ambition.
We are suggesting a donation of between £5-£10 with all money raised going towards the work of Bermondsey Welcomes Refugees. https://bit.ly/3dKgVR2
