00:10Ambassador Syed Salim Faruqi suggested the establishment of a Parliamentary Institute to train MPs in the law, spending, and economic issues.

00:22He said the lack of knowledge among MPs about the Parliamentary Institute led to discussions about race and religion,

00:31doubts in the law, and a heavy stance on issues related to gender.

00:39Syed Salim also suggested that MPs follow a short-term course to better understand the law

00:47and take part in the discussion of the legal framework that can be laid out in Parliament as an independent legal framework.

00:55He also suggested the establishment of a Parliamentary Office, such as in Australia and other Commonwealth countries,

01:02where freelancers provide non-partisan analysis on the short-term and long-term effects of a decision.

01:10MPs must actually be made aware of the long-term implications.

01:18I'm personally troubled by it every day. We order food, it comes in plastic bags.

01:25I'm telling myself, very soon our oceans will be filled with plastic bags.

01:32When it comes to environmental issues, rivers are turning into drains, hills are being carted away.

01:40These are long-term policies.
