00:00How long has it been since we've waltzed?
00:03Oh, Gomez.
00:09Hours.
00:10Welcome to Ms. Mojo.
00:12And today we're counting down our picks for the most compelling,
00:15believable or extraordinary romantic connections in film.
00:18Gently.
00:19At a time like this, that's all you can think to say.
00:22Gently.
00:23Gently!
00:27Number 20.
00:29Ten things I hate about you.
00:31How you doing?
00:32Sweating like a pig, actually, in yourself.
00:34Now there's a way to get a guy's attention, huh?
00:37My mission in life.
00:39In this Shakespeare adaptation, Patrick Verona is paid to date Kat Stratford.
00:43Things don't start off well considering the circumstances.
00:46Despite their testy beginning, the two seem perfect for each other.
00:49It also helps when Verona makes a romantic gesture to woo Stratford.
00:53Let me love you!
00:59Through parties and paintball games,
01:02these characters can't seem to get enough of each other.
01:05They both share similar interests, alternative personalities,
01:08and confrontational attitudes.
01:10It's a relationship so strong that it even survives the inevitable reveal.
01:13Even after all of the deception, this duo seems destined for each other.
01:17It's not every day you find a girl who'll flash someone to get you out of detention.
01:23Oh, God.
01:24Number 19.
01:26A star is born.
01:28Don't you understand what I'm trying to tell you?
01:30Yeah, I do.
01:31I don't like it, but I understand it.
01:34Oh, I think you like it a little bit.
01:36He's a grizzled veteran, and she's the upcoming talent.
01:39In their first moments together, they already seem like a match made in heaven.
01:43Jackson Maine might be fighting his inner demons,
01:46but he definitely has time for his new love.
01:48He supports Ally Campana in her dreams and through her early career highs.
01:52You always said you liked my nose.
01:54I love your nose.
01:55It's real big up there.
01:57I wish it was bigger up there.
01:59Needless to say, Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga are a fantastic pairing.
02:03Their characters have this artistic passion that binds them no matter the obstacle.
02:07Even as the road looks dire for Jackson,
02:09Ally shows that she loves him despite his faults.
02:12Never love again.
02:17Oh, I'll never.
02:26Good. Don't break. Don't break.
02:32It's hard not to see how these two fell for each other.
02:35After constantly dancing together, Baby and Johnny develop a romance.
02:39They clearly have an attraction that goes beyond their basic rhythms.
02:42Moving in lockstep, these two have a flirtatious energy in their routines
02:46that lives up to the movie's title.
02:48When her overprotective father tries to keep them apart,
02:50Johnny stands up for his partner with a famous line.
02:53Nobody puts Baby in a corner.
02:57By the final number, the two show off their love with even the slightest glances.
03:01The iconic lift only reminds us that this bad boy will do anything for his protégé.
03:10Time of my life.
03:16Can't get out that way.
03:17Looks like you managed to cut off our only escape route.
03:19Maybe you'd like it back in your cell, your highness.
03:23In the original film, Han Solo and Princess Leia Organa seem lightyears apart.
03:27The sequel explores the possibility of their romance.
03:30One is a scoundrel and the other is royalty,
03:32but their attitudes are surprisingly compatible.
03:35Their strong personalities are tested through dangerous missions and escapes.
03:39By the end of The Empire Strikes Back, they seem hopelessly in love.
03:43I love you.
03:45I know.
03:46Organa reunites with Solo in Return of the Jedi
03:48after searching the far reaches of the galaxy for him.
03:51It also helps that these actors ooze charisma when they're together.
03:54Through words and actions, this pair shows why they're one of sci-fi's great loves.
04:02I love you.
04:04I know.
04:09Is that the bad blood between you and Johnny?
04:12Yes, that's it.
04:14Yeah, but that's not Johnny's fault.
04:17When we meet these characters, neither seems to be in a good spot in their life.
04:21Loretta wonders about marriage and Ronnie reels from his tragic personal life.
04:26When they pour their hearts out to each other,
04:28it's clear that they have an electric chemistry.
04:30He could make you look the wrong way. You could lose your whole head.
04:33I'm looking where I have to to become a bride.
04:35A bride without a head.
04:36A wolf without a foot.
04:38Their passion spills over into heartfelt scenes that showcase their bond.
04:42Nicolas Cage and Cher might seem like an unlikely pair,
04:45but they prove that opposites attract.
04:47The opera sequence is just one example of their strong connection.
04:51Even with their wild families, the couple survives all kinds of drama.
04:55Yes, Ronnie, in front of all these people, I'll marry you.
04:58Do you love him, Loretta?
04:59Ma, I love him awful.
05:01Oh, God, that's too bad.
05:07Perfect time.
05:09As always.
05:11This fun premise pits a married couple of assassins against each other.
05:15While it seems like a toxic setup, the movie works because of the duo's chemistry.
05:19Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie bring their star power to an action adventure.
05:23Considering their off-screen relationship,
05:25the actors make it easier to imagine these two characters in love.
05:30Jane and John are believable in both tense and intimate scenes.
05:34While they're flirtatious in quiet moments,
05:36they also have entertaining banter during gunfights and chases.
05:39Mr. and Mrs. Smith lets the stars breathe and connect in between the scenes of violence.
05:44But you can handle it together.
05:46So far.
05:47Yes, we can.
05:48So far?
05:50What is that?
05:53I'm leaving room for the unknown.
05:55What is that?
05:57I'm leaving room for the unknown.
05:59So far.
06:15When a businessman needs a date, he hires an escort.
06:18This doesn't sound like the start to a great romance.
06:20Thankfully for audiences,
06:21Pretty Woman creates a convincing argument with two good performances.
06:25Julia Roberts brings depth and personality to her character Vivian Ward.
06:28Playing opposite Richard Gere's suave Edward Lewis,
06:31both characters can't help but fall in love after having a romantic time together.
06:35In the necklace scene alone,
06:36Gere and Roberts bring an amazing energy to a small moment.
06:46This helps to make the ending payoff all the more authentic.
06:49While it might be something of a fantasy,
06:51this couple grounds the entire movie.
06:53So what happened after he climbed up the tower and rescued her?
06:59She rescues him right back.
07:06Farm boy, polish my horse's saddle.
07:09I want to see my face shining in it by morning.
07:12As you wish.
07:15Even though they're separated,
07:16these two characters long for each other throughout The Princess Bride.
07:19Wesley searches far and wide to save Buttercup from her captors.
07:22He's already shown her undying love,
07:24but the couple then prove they're made for each other.
07:27Buttercup even throws herself down a hill after her beloved partner.
07:30They both bring plenty of charm to their scenes,
07:32standing up for each other no matter the situation,
07:35from the fire swamp to the pit of despair.
07:37Wesley, what about the R.O.U.S.'s?
07:40Rodents of unusual size?
07:42I don't think they exist.
07:44The two reveal many times over
07:46that their love is definitely fit for a fairy tale.
07:49There have been five kisses that were rated the most passionate,
07:52the most pure.
07:54This one left them all behind.
08:00It's a miserable night.
08:02I know, darling.
08:04Say I'll sweat it.
08:06Through the twists and turns of this series,
08:08these two are always in love.
08:10Gomez and Morticia Adams have the eternal spark
08:12that never seems to go out.
08:14Whenever they find a moment to themselves,
08:16the gothic couple relishes in each other's company.
08:18Their obsession with darkness and death
08:20only brings them closer together.
08:22Even in a graveyard,
08:24the two find a reason to rekindle their special romance.
08:26Our lifeless bodies,
08:28rotting together
08:30for all eternity.
08:35Cara Mia.
08:37Both actors play the parts to perfection
08:39and with all the sincerity of a drama.
08:41Raul, Julia and Angelica Houston
08:43are charming as ever,
08:45making you believe that the Adams family could be real.
08:52Number 11.
08:53Evelyn and Rick.
08:54The Mummy.
08:55I don't like him one bit.
08:56Anyone I know?
08:59Oh.
09:01Um.
09:03Hello.
09:04With all of their adventures,
09:05these two still find time to fall in love.
09:07There's clearly some serious chemistry
09:09between bookish Evelyn Carnahan
09:11and the rugged Rick O'Connell.
09:12During their encounters with ancient Egyptian forces,
09:14the librarian and the adventurer
09:16make some genuine memories together.
09:18Their rocky start turns into a high-octane thrill ride
09:20that includes boats and battles.
09:22There goes that we again.
09:24Listen to me.
09:25We have to do something.
09:27Once this creature has been reborn,
09:28his curse is going to spread
09:29until the whole of the earth is destroyed.
09:31Carnahan and O'Connell also save each other from doom frequently,
09:34showing that they're willing to fight for each other.
09:36They might not marry until the sequel,
09:38but these heroes have something truly special
09:40in the original film.
09:48Number 10.
09:49Selene and Jesse.
09:50The Before Trilogy.
09:51Richard Linklater's Before Trilogy
09:53is able to capture the way relationships evolve
09:55as we grow and age,
09:57and all the cynicism that can bring.
09:59But if you want true love,
10:01then this is it.
10:03This is real life.
10:04It's not perfect, but it's real.
10:06And if you can't see it,
10:07then you're blind, alright?
10:08If I give up.
10:09But the films wouldn't work nearly as well as they do
10:12without the intense chemistry between Jesse and Selene,
10:15played to perfection by Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy.
10:18Must be like him in your dream
10:19and you in mine or something.
10:21And...
10:22and...
10:23what's so cool
10:24is that this whole evening,
10:25all our time together,
10:27shouldn't officially be happening.
10:29Yeah, I know.
10:30Maybe that's why this feels so otherworldly.
10:32The structure of the films
10:33is set up to convey a deep connection.
10:35Two people having interesting and passionate conversations
10:38over the course of a night or an afternoon.
10:40Hawke's and Delpy's contributions to the material
10:43cannot be overstated.
10:44Both helping with the screenplays
10:46and bringing their personal lives into the story.
10:49Perhaps that's why their chemistry
10:51feels so grounded in reality.
10:53I feel I was never able to forget anyone I've been with.
10:56Because each person has their own specific qualities.
11:02You can never replace anyone.
11:04What is lost is lost.
11:09We'll never get over this story
11:11about two lonesome cowboys
11:12or the beautiful chemistry at the movie center.
11:15Ennis and Jack have a complicated relationship,
11:17to say the least.
11:18And playing the characters to their full potential
11:20couldn't have been an easy task.
11:22But Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger
11:24were more than up for it.
11:26For how long?
11:29As long as we can ride it.
11:35There ain't no rain till this one.
11:37So, where did all that natural chemistry come from?
11:40Well, the two already knew each other.
11:42But director Ang Lee said he thinks
11:44their innocence really helped carry the movie through.
11:47And we think he's right.
11:48I wish I knew how to quit you.
11:53Then why don't you?
11:54The actors play well off of each other,
11:56but they both have an earnestness about them
11:58that jumps out even when they're trying to hold back,
12:01making for a compelling romance.
12:03Sometimes I miss you so much I can hardly stand it.
12:10Elizabeth has bewitched Mr. Darcy, body and soul.
12:14And honestly,
12:15their chemistry has us feeling that type of way too.
12:18Pride and Prejudice begins with Darcy and Elizabeth at odds,
12:21but that initial distaste only gives their relationship
12:24and affection for each other more time to grow.
12:27So what do you recommend to encourage affection?
12:30Dancing.
12:31Dancing.
12:33Even if one's partner is barely tolerable.
12:35Keira Knightley and Matthew McFadyen
12:37both really lean into the yearning aspect of the love story.
12:40Plenty of long, lingering looks
12:42and titillating hand flexes in this one, folks.
12:45But what really sends this dual performance over the top
12:48is the way both actors are able to effortlessly handle the dialogue.
12:52Are you laughing at me?
12:53No.
12:54Are you rejecting me?
12:55I'm sure that the feelings which, as you've told me,
12:57have hindered your regard will help you in overcoming it.
12:59Show every ounce of romance, bite and intelligence they have at it.
13:03And we love it.
13:05Most ardently.
13:06You have bewitched me, body and soul.
13:08And I love, I love, I love you.
13:12I never wish to be parted from you from this day on.
13:14Number 7.
13:15Diane and Lloyd.
13:16Say Anything.
13:29Be honest.
13:30You started singing along.
13:31We all know the boombox scene by heart.
13:34But we shouldn't forget about the wonderful romance that leads to that moment.
13:37I just can't have any social life right now.
13:41Don't worry about it.
13:42We're just having coffee.
13:43We'll be antisocial.
13:47Be friends?
13:48Yeah.
13:49Potential.
13:50Diane and Lloyd don't seem like a match made in heaven at first glance.
13:53He's a bit of a slacker, she's top of the class.
13:56He doesn't have much of a plan for anything,
13:58she plans everything out to the letter.
14:01But from that very first phone call,
14:03you can tell how charmed they both are by each other.
14:06From his nervous rambling to her responding bemusement.
14:09By the way, I wanted to just tell you that I lived in England for three months.
14:12And my parents lived in Holland, you know, so we lived in England.
14:15And Jeremy and I can give you an enormous amount of tips.
14:17John Cusack and Ione Skye really nail that exciting butterflies in your stomach
14:22beginning part of a relationship that we all love so much.
14:25Nobody really thinks it will work, do they?
14:28No.
14:30You just described every great success story.
14:32Number 6.
14:33Maria and Tony.
14:34West Side Story.
14:36Love at first sight is difficult to convey effectively.
14:39But with a little help from Stephen Sondheim and Leonard Bernstein,
14:43Natalie Wood and Richard Beamer were able to do just that
14:46as Maria and Tony in West Side Story.
14:48You're not thinking I'm someone else.
14:52I know you are not.
14:58That we've met before?
15:01I know we have not.
15:03This classic musical follows the Romeo and Juliet-esque pair
15:06as they try to be together despite interference from their respective families and friends.
15:11The actors have plenty of moments where their over-the-top attraction shines through.
15:15The fire escape scene certainly comes to mind for one.
15:18And what was just a world is a star tonight.
15:28But the moment they first meet really shows just how strong their connection is.
15:32You're not making a joke.
15:36I have not yet learned how to joke that way.
15:40I think now I never will.
15:42As they dance, they're unable to take their eyes off each other.
15:46Number 5.
15:47Elena and Alejandro.
15:49The Mask of Zorro.
15:50Not only do these two have physical chemistry that's off the charts,
15:54and how could they not?
15:55Have you seen both of them?
15:56But their fighting chemistry is pretty incredible too.
15:59I gave you the proper instruction.
16:03I have had the proper instruction since I was four.
16:07In The Mask of Zorro, Antonio Banderas plays Alejandro,
16:11a thief training to become the new Zorro.
16:13And Catherine Zeta-Jones plays Elena,
16:16the original Zorro's daughter.
16:17The two meet while Alejandro is undercover at a party,
16:20and the spark is electric.
16:30But while we love watching their choreography when they dance,
16:33the way they move in tune with each other when they sword fight is spectacular.
16:40No bite at all.
16:41No bite at all.
16:45Number 4.
16:46Annie and Jack.
16:47Speed.
16:48The non-stop action and speed might be heart-pounding,
16:51but the chemistry between Keanu Reeves' Jack and Sandra Bullock's Annie is heart-fluttering.
16:56Jack and Annie's relationship starts off quite intensely.
16:59It's a game.
17:00If he gets the money, he wins.
17:02If the bus blows up, he wins.
17:04What if you win?
17:05Then tomorrow we'll play another one.
17:07But I'm not available to drive tomorrow.
17:09Busy.
17:10They are, after all, trying to stop a bomb from exploding on a speeding bus.
17:13An experience like that is bound to bring you together in an incendiary way.
17:17But Reeves and Bullock are able to find the heart of the characters
17:20underneath all the wild action stunts.
17:28And we love the quiet moments between them just as much as we love the jaw-dropping ones.
17:38Number 3.
17:40Love and basketball.
17:48Playing a one-on-one basketball game for your relationship may seem a bit dramatic,
17:52but by the time you get to that pivotal scene in Love and Basketball,
17:55you're already so invested in Monica and Quincy it doesn't matter.
17:59Things between this couple aren't always easy.
18:02When you grow up together, there are bound to be some growing pains.
18:10I never asked you to choose.
18:12You never have to.
18:13We adore how Omar Epps and Sanaa Lathan show the characters affection for each other,
18:18even in their bad times, though.
18:20And, going back to that one-on-one game because we love it,
18:23the actors effortlessly capture the couple's chemistry with their athleticism as well.
18:27Seriously, who knew so much could be said with a simple basketball game?
18:31Hey.
18:36Double or nothing.
18:37Number 2.
18:40Ryan Gosling has effortless chemistry with a lot of the actors he's worked with,
18:44so it was difficult to pick the one we wanted to put on this list.
18:47And while we almost went with the connection he shared with Emma Stone in Crazy Stupid Love,
18:52nothing beats Noah and Ally's young love in The Notebook.
18:55Do you want to dance with me?
18:58Sure.
18:59For all the magneticism between the two,
19:01Gosling and Rachel McAdams didn't get along for much of the movie's shoot.
19:04The actors' strained relationship obviously works well for the scenes
19:07when the characters are older and have more history.
19:09Now I hate you, you son of a bastard.
19:11Well, I hate you.
19:12If you leave here, I hate you.
19:13What if anyone paid any attention to anything that's been happening?
19:16I guess not. I think I must have misread all of those signals.
19:18Yeah, I guess you did.
19:19But the scenes between them as young Noah and Ally are utterly joyous and exuberant.
19:24They also dated in real life, so they must have gotten over whatever it was.
19:28Now say you're a bird, too.
19:31If you're a bird, I'm a bird.
19:33Before we unveil our top pick, here are some honorable mentions.
19:37Romeo and Juliet, Romeo and Juliet.
19:40These actors play a convincing version of the star-crossed lovers.
19:43If my heart's dear love, I swear I...
19:47Oh, Juliet!
19:51Lucy and Jack, while you were sleeping.
19:53Even after all the lies, these two realize that they're soulmates.
19:57I need to ask you a question.
20:00Get down on your knee. It's more romantic.
20:04Sally and Harry, When Harry Met Sally.
20:07The classic rom-com brings out the best in Billy Crystal and Meg Ryan.
20:10You see, that is just like you, Harry.
20:15You say things like that and you make it impossible for me to hate you.
20:20Sean and Mary-Kate, The Quiet Man.
20:22This stormy romance plays out with believable tension.

20:50Number 1. Rose and Jack, Titanic.
20:54Once again, we will never let go of this couple.
20:58As Jack and Rose, Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet have such an easy chemistry,
21:03it's no wonder the two remain good friends today.
21:11But you might be surprised to know that the actors were forced
21:14to get extra comfortable with each other right off the bat.
21:17The first scene Winslet and DiCaprio filmed together was the famous nude sketching scene.
21:21Jack, I want you to draw me like one of your French girls, wearing this.
21:27Alright.
21:30Wearing only this.
21:32Of course, the characters are feeling a little bit of discomfort during this moment,
21:36which is appropriately conveyed.
21:38You can't help but wonder if having to film this steamy scene first
21:41paved the way for the rest of the actor's effortless connection.
21:45Open your eyes.
21:53I'm flying!
21:55Which movie romance made you swoon?
21:57Let us know in the comments below.
22:00Now, now.
22:04He's looking at you, kid.
22:06Do you agree with our picks?
