00:00And it starts, again, it starts at OTAs.
00:02It starts in training camp.
00:03Just being around a player like that.
00:05Hey, how do I lift the right way?
00:07Everyone lifts a little differently.
00:08How do I study film the right way?
00:10How do I see what's in front of me
00:11if you're an offensive lineman for the defense?
00:13You know, Caleb Williams having that,
00:15the players who are, I think, again,
00:16the veteran part of signing those three interior guys
00:20is just allowing Caleb Williams, I think, to be more free.
00:24To know that those three guys, they're veterans.
00:26They've seen a lot of football up front.
00:28That they're gonna have you protected inside out.
00:31Like, that's such an important thing
00:32for a young quarterback to know that
00:34I'm not gonna see pressure in my face.
00:36Because a lot of guys, when they're young,
00:39you know, having that firm inside the pocket,
00:41not just when they're young,
00:42but I mean, everyone will enjoy this,
00:43but it's easier, it's more important
00:45when you're a young quarterback.
00:46Especially someone like Caleb Williams
00:47who has an issue of getting sacked too much.
00:49It's something he has to work out.
00:51It's not just an offensive line issue.
00:52It's a Caleb Williams issue as well.
00:53But going into a season, or a game, or a practice,
00:57feeling very comfortable with the interior offensive line
01:00goes a long way in starting the process
01:02of Caleb Williams just playing better football.
01:04How do you view the relative importance
01:07of guard, center, guard now,
01:09especially with a quarterback like Williams,
01:11to the classic importance of the tackles
01:15keeping the edge solid?
01:17Well, look, the thing about guard, center, guard
01:23is the importance of it is a couple things.
01:25One is that we're seeing now
01:27the way that defenses rush quarterbacks,
01:32they will put their best defensive lineman anywhere.
01:35And you can't just have a weakness.
01:37Like they will exploit that weakness.
01:38They'll put them on anyone around,
01:40you know, except like Watt,
01:41who plays over one guy the entire game,
01:43but they'll move everyone everywhere, right?
01:44And so you can't have a weakness.
01:46So it used to be that the pass rush
01:48or the best pass rush were only over the tackles.
01:50Well, that's not the case anymore, right?
01:51So you have to have guards that can pass protect.
01:53You also now have just so many good defensive tackles
01:56that can rush the passer.
01:57And the quickest way to disrupt a quarterback
01:59is to get someone up the middle who moves them off his spot
02:02and makes them uncomfortable right at the snap.
02:05And so having those interior guys is important.
02:07I can't wait to see what happens.
