00:06for them because they have sexual harassment, a lot of things that are there are not really

00:15friendly to the women.

00:17One thing that I'd like to share, when we first introduced the sexual harassment act

00:23that was just being approved during that time, some men whispered to me, thank you Wefie,

00:29at least our women feel more confident.

00:32The Anti-Sexual Harassment Act 2022 has significantly boosted women's confidence and security in

00:38the workplace, says Women, Family and Community Development Minister Nancy Shukri.

00:44Passed by the Dewan Negara on August 11, 2022, the law grants the right to seek redress for

00:50anyone who has experienced sexual harassment, whether in the workplace or other settings.

00:56She added that the tribunal established under the Act, which can order compensation of up

01:01to RM250,000 for a broad range of sexual harassment cases, reinforces women's sense of security

01:08in the workplace.

01:10Nancy also said women should not feel burdened by caregiving, housework or family responsibilities

01:16to the point that it limits their careers.

01:21In this era with AI, I think a lot of opportunities for women out there to work, then we want

01:30to see more of them.

01:31We don't want the women who went to universities feel that, oh, I study, no matter how high

01:40I study, I got my PhD, I still have to stay at home.

01:44We don't want them to think that way.

01:46According to the Statistics Department, out of 4.8 million women who were not seeking

01:51employment in 2023, 3 million, or 60%, cited housework or family responsibilities.

01:59She added that the government, under Budget 2025, introduced initiatives to support women's

02:04workforce participation, including a 50% income tax exemption for employers hiring women returning

02:11to work.
