Women's Day 2025: In Varanasi, women are finding new employment opportunities through products made from cow dung and cow urine. This initiative has enabled women to earn a steady income from home. Due to the growing popularity of cow dung and cow urine-based products, employment in this sector is also increasing. Rita Tiwari from Varanasi started this movement and has since helped numerous women become self-reliant. She began this work in 2005, initially making cow dung diyas (lamps) and incense sticks. Over time, she also received formal training in the field.

00:00It was a time when women used to stay at home and do household chores like cooking, sweeping, etc.
00:15But now the times have changed. Women are stepping out of their homes and creating their mark in the society.
00:22We are presently in Tarna, Varanasi.
00:25Rita Tiwari is a resident of this area.
00:27She makes products out of cow dung, cow urine, etc.
00:34Today, she is providing employment to a large number of women.
00:38Today, we will talk to her and learn about her struggle.
00:43First of all, we would like to know from you, where did you start this work?
00:50Jai Gau Mata! Vande Gau Mataram to all of you!
00:54I have been doing this work since 2005.
01:03In 2005, I used to take cow dung, make powder out of it, and make small things out of it.
01:09I used to make things out of it, such as lamps, etc.
01:15I have heard that people from the Geeta Press used to make things out of cow dung.
01:23They used to say that it is natural dung and cow dung is made out of it.
01:26So, I used to make things out of cow dung.
01:28After making things out of cow dung, I used to make things out of cow dung for my neighbors.
01:37Through Ajit Mahapatra ji, I was inspired to do this work.
01:45For this work, you should go to Deolapar, Swanand Gobi Gyan, and take training.
01:54You should make this work a reality.
01:57After taking training, I went to Swanand Gobi Gyan, Nilkanth Gobi Gyan.
02:04I took training from there.
02:09After taking training from there, I came back.
02:12During the pandemic, I saw that the cows that were roaming around,
02:17or more than humans,
02:19for humans, people were distributing grains, food, etc.
02:25But for cows that were roaming around, there was nothing worse than that.
02:31We used to see that people used to peel vegetables and throw them away.
02:36They used to roam around and eat.
02:39But during the pandemic, the situation was such that they had nothing.
02:44There was nothing on the road.
02:46So, they started dying.
02:51When they started dying, I felt that these things should be taken care of.
02:58In this program, to distribute food, I went to your village, Ahrak.
03:04There were some Thakur settlements there.
03:07When we went there, we saw that when we were distributing food,
03:11people asked us, what can we do with this food to distribute dry food?
03:17You should do something for employment.
03:19So that when we work, we don't have a problem getting ration.
03:23And we also feel good that we are doing some work and eating it.
03:26After all, how long will someone sit and give us food?
03:29And at that time, you must have seen that during the pandemic,
03:33all the people who were outside started coming to their villages.
03:36So, there was even more trouble in the village.
03:38How will someone's children study?
03:40How will other things work?
03:42The government is distributing ration, but how will they manage the expenses other than that?
03:46And when all kinds of problems started coming, we felt that these things should be increased.
03:52And after coming here, I started this program with 200 women.
03:58I started with 200 women.
04:00I gave small moulds to 200 people.
04:02People started making moulds.
04:04In the beginning, someone used to do work for 3000 rupees,
04:07someone used to do work for 4000 rupees.
04:09In a day?
04:10Not in a day.
04:11In the whole month.
04:12In the beginning.
04:13In a month, 3000-4000?
04:16In 2000.
04:18After 2000.
04:20You started in 2000?

04:28In 2021 or 2022, women used to do work for 2000-3000 rupees a month.
04:32Okay.
04:33And after that, the product also started increasing.
04:36The number of women has increased.
04:38Today, a woman can do work for 15,000-16,000 rupees.
04:42How many women are there today?
04:44We have 4,000 women.
04:47But the women who work continuously,
04:491,000 women work continuously.
04:51Okay, these 1,000 women are engaged in this work every day.
04:54Yes.
04:55They do all this work at their home.
04:56Yes.
04:57What material do you give them?
04:58What material do we give them?
05:00Right now, the cows that we have,
05:03those who have cows,
05:05and those who don't have cows,
05:06we caught the cows from our cowshed.
05:08And we provided them with small moulds.
05:14Now, they make their products from the same mould and cow dung.
05:17They dry it at their home.
05:18And after drying it,
05:19if they can't bring it from our place,
05:21if they bring it, it's okay.
05:22If they can't bring it,
05:23then cars go from our place.
05:24And they fill it and pick it up.
05:26Okay, if we talk about the present time,
05:29I have seen a lot of things that have been given.

06:05This is made from the least amount of money and the least amount of cow dung.
06:08This is an anti-radiation chip.
06:10Okay.
06:11This is an anti-radiation chip.
06:12Everyone knows about anti-radiation.
06:15But this is valid for 6 months.

06:21Okay, I have to use it on my mobile.
06:23Yes, behind the mobile.
06:24Okay.
06:25Like this.
06:26Like this?
06:27Yes.
06:28Now, I will show you how to use it.
06:30Okay.
06:35So, we will stick this on the mobile.
06:39Yes.
06:40It will stop the radiation.
06:42Yes, it will stop the radiation.
06:46You can use it on your mobile.
06:47Okay.
06:48Now, it is valid for 6 months.

07:05We will stop this first.
07:07Okay.
07:08It will protect your eyes and ears.
07:10It will protect the upper portion of your neck from radiation.
07:15Okay, this is all valid.
07:17Yes.
07:18Now, let's talk about being a woman,
07:20reaching this level in the society,
07:22and moving women forward.
07:24What challenges did you have to face?
07:26There are no challenges.
07:30Life is a challenge.
07:32I had to face a lot of challenges.
07:35For example, I had to go to the government's cowshed in Vandepur.
07:39There was a time when the cows started drowning.
07:46Yes, that is a problem.
07:48But being a woman,
07:50moving forward in the society,
07:52and establishing yourself,
07:54did you face any obstacles?
07:57No, I would like to thank my husband for this.
08:03I am fortunate to have him as my husband.
08:07I am his wife.
08:09I can't praise him enough.
08:12I was able to do everything because of him.
08:15People say that if you are from a Brahmin family,
08:20you will be able to do this.
08:22But if you are from a Brahmin family,
08:24you will be able to do this.
08:26If you are educated,
08:28you will be able to do this.
08:30But if you are from a Brahmin family,
08:32you will be able to do this.
08:34But if you are from a Brahmin family,
08:36you will be able to do this.
08:38But our family,
08:40our daughter, our son,
08:42people like Sourav,
08:44all these children,
08:46all of them supported us.
08:48And we never felt that people are not supporting us.
08:53Ever since our cows started drowning.
08:55They supported us in giving money.
08:58We won't say what they did for us.
09:01But our family supported us a lot.
09:04And we are continuing this work.
09:07We are very thankful to our family.
09:11We are very thankful to our family.
09:16People like them supported us.
09:19They supported us to move forward.
09:21They supported us to stay strong.
09:24It is very easy to make a product.
09:26People make it.
09:28But it is a big challenge to sell it.
09:30And you can't sell it.
09:32Many businesses are closed.
09:34People failed and went back.
09:36How do you sell this?
09:38In the beginning,
09:40at least 1000-1500 people used to buy from us.
09:44Either consider it as a support.
09:46Or we are doing this for the cows.
09:48We have to stay connected with them.
09:50So if we do it,
09:52we are able to sell it.
09:54We have registered it at
09:56Trade India, India Mart,
09:58Just Dial, Miso, Majan, Flipkart.
10:00We have registered it at all these places.
10:04And we sell it from there.

14:37We will also talk to him about the benefits of cow dung
14:49What is your name?
14:51Namaste, I am Biplab Sarkar
14:54I have come from Devbhumi, Uttarakhand
14:57My village is 66 km below Yamunotri
15:01Lakhamandal
15:03Daura is the name of my village, 2 km from Lakhamandal
15:07I came to know about cow dung 1.5 months ago
15:14When I came to Mahakumbh
15:16My intention was to open an art ashram
15:20In Uttarakhand
15:22An ashram dedicated to art
15:25Art and craft, I am an artist
15:27So I went to attend Kumbh for that
15:31It was my first Kumbh in my life
15:33So I thought of completing it
15:37From beginning to end
15:39And then I came here to meet Godhuni
15:43To meet Rita ji
15:45Because on the first day, I felt that
15:48The product that we will make
15:50To define the art ashram
15:52Art at the rate Shrama
15:54So many tourists come there
15:56So I thought
15:58From Rs. 55 to Rs. 55,000
16:00We can make it
16:02And then we will make it from cow dung
16:04And I came here to see
16:06Godhuni is here
16:08So I welcomed him
16:10I told him to come to Devbhumi
16:12And make all this
16:14Because I want to make a lot from cow dung
16:18So that is also completed
16:20I came to meet him
16:22It is good that you came from Devbhumi, Uttarakhand
16:26I am taking Godhuni with me
16:28You can take her with you
16:30It will work
16:32We have Panditji Guruji with us
16:35We will talk to him
16:37Please tell us about this
16:39Please tell us a mantra
16:41Which is used for cow dung
16:45Chanting Mantra
17:07We will talk to Divyank
17:09We were discussing about him
17:11He has a special name
17:13Please tell us
17:15What is your name?
17:17My name is Vishwesh Singh
17:19I am from Varanasi
17:21And my small town is Bamiyan
17:23And I belong from there
17:25First of all, Jai Gau Mata
17:27All Hindus
17:29Who believe in religion
17:31And
17:33I would like to thank my sister Rita
17:35Because she had such a big
17:37Thought in her mind
17:39That for cow dung
17:41We should do something
17:43I would like to thank her
17:45And the biggest thing is
17:47The mother who gives birth to us
17:51One is our mother earth
17:53And the other is our cow
17:55If we look at all three
17:57They all have the same concept
17:59The mother who gives birth
18:01She feeds us with her own milk
18:03And raises us
18:05And the mother who does not live
18:07Unfortunately
18:09She feeds us with her own milk
18:11And raises us
18:13And the third
18:15The mother earth
18:17On which we learn to walk
18:19From that mother earth
18:21So many grains are born
18:23We grow up eating it
18:25And some are capable
18:27So it is not a big deal
18:29Everyone knows
18:31But unfortunately
18:33We have to tell all this
18:35Because somewhere we have forgotten our culture
18:37We have forgotten our culture
18:39And our lifestyle
18:41Which we are living in today
18:43Behind money
18:45So somewhere
18:47We have been affected
18:49And our society
18:51Which is spreading diseases
18:53Mentally
18:55People are becoming mentally ill
18:57So what we are giving to our mother earth
18:59We are getting it
19:01We are getting it in return
19:03Very good
19:05This product
19:07Which is being made here
19:09You can see
19:11It is made of cow dung
19:13And it is very strong
19:15It will not break
19:17So this is Rita Tiwari
19:19From Tarna
19:21And we talked to her
19:23See you in the next video
