Ex-tropical cyclone Alfred lingered off the south-east Australian coast on Saturday (March 8) while the northern New South Wales town of Lismore and other parts of the state were hit by major flooding.

01:00after strong winds crippled utility lines. Authorities said no fatalities were reported
01:06so far, but they warned that the situation could worsen.
01:10This emergency is not over, and it's not over for the following reasons.
01:15The rivers are full, the rain is continuing and expected to keep falling in the days ahead,
01:21and wind conditions are very high and extreme, particularly on the coast,
01:27particularly in the Byron Shire right up to the Queensland border.
01:30The calls for assistance are coming in thick and fast now, where they sort of started off a little
01:35bit slow, but yeah we're definitely getting stuck into it now. As far as fallouts, we've got
