Swell at Currumbin on the Gold Coast before Tropical Cyclone Alfred makes landfall in Australia

Waves on the Gold Coast reached 8.21 metres at 8.30am on Wednesday, according to data from the Queensland government.

The category two system is expected to make landfall late on Thursday or early Friday between the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia. The southeast of the state is bunkering down, with schools, public transport and major roads to close as the cyclone approaches.
