The Home Ministry is in the process of identifying a candidate to fill the post of Director-General of the Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS), which is now vacant following Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali's retirement on February 9.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, said the matter was discussed with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim after yesterday's Cabinet meeting.

00:00We are aware that the first head of the EGPS, Dato' Hazani, just passed away on the 9th of February.
00:22This afternoon, after a meeting with the Prime Minister, I told him about the process of selecting the best candidates for this position.
00:43In the time that we have been waiting for, the announcement will be made.
00:50I also had a discussion with the Minister of State Affairs, and just this afternoon with the House of Representatives and the Prime Minister,
01:00shortly after the Cabinet meeting, when I was asked to give my opinion.
01:07We are aware that this is a new agency, and the Prime Minister wants to hear his own opinion after the implementation of the EGPS.
01:18Directly, he asked me about the problems he is facing, what are his wishes, and what other improvements can I make to bring to his government.
01:34What are the success stories that have been achieved since his brief speech?
01:39I told him that the biggest reaction now is that when we put the EGPS under one roof, we can see that the bureaucracy can be reduced.
01:56Some of our customers who deal with the entry gate found that dealing with a single agency is much easier than the previous experience.
02:09At least I feel relieved to hear such feedback.
02:13Of course, it's too early for us to make any conclusions, but I am optimistic.
02:20I think the EGPS is the right decision to implement, and it is in line with all of their plans and schedules.
02:35Are there any candidates for the EGPS? Or is it still in the process?
02:40Oh, it's still in the process. You know how to use the term.
02:45We have given the criteria that we think can provide additional information to the EGPS committee to identify the candidates.
02:56That is the EGPS committee's forte.
02:58But as the minister in charge of this issue, where the EGPS is under the EGPS, I am concerned about the birth of the EGPS.
03:07So, I think I have some views from our perspective at KDN.
03:12I have discussed with the KSU and the team, and we think there are some criteria that we think need to be considered.
03:23So, I would like to convey to the KSU that the EGPS is still in the process.
03:32But maybe there are some candidates who are still in the process.
