00:00Hi, I'm Mila Jovovich, and I'm Paul WS Anderson, and this is us weekly in conversation
00:08in conversation in conversation
00:10I'll start with ladies first
00:12What is your?
00:15Favorite part of getting to direct
00:18Wow
00:20This yeah for a family audience
00:22I
00:27My way like
00:30Direct me on sets. Yeah, okay. I get it. I get it now
00:34I think but you know my favorite part of the day is the first half an hour when it's just you and me on set
00:39With a couple of cups of coffee before the crew turn up where we get to talk about the day
00:43And it's pure creativity without 150 people. They're asking questions. You know that's
00:50terrific freedom and
00:52it's a wonderful time to like
00:55Create yeah connect with their surroundings connect with the set
01:00Really understand. What was your first impression of me when we first worked together?
01:08Apart from the fact you punched me in the eye and gave me a black eye
01:13My first impression
01:15when we worked together was that you were super hot and
01:19you look like
01:21You look like Roger Waters like cute younger brother, and I was a big fan of Pink Floyd, and I knew
01:30Afterwards that you also were a big fan of good taste in music. Yeah, what black guy story
01:35I don't know what you're talking about there was one point during the first Resident Evil where both
01:40Myself and the director of photography had black eyes
01:44Because Mila had punched us
01:46Not in anger. They were they asked for it. Oh, yeah, they
01:51They put me in an impossible
01:53situation Paul said
01:56Just punch straight at the camera as if I'm the camera, but he didn't have a camera
02:02So I just punched him straight in the eye well
02:04I imagined that she would imagine there was a camera in front of me
02:07It takes up by this much space
02:08But she did she just imagined the back of my head was the lens and just wham so I I saw how powerful
02:15Her punches could be in real life
02:18What was your first impression of me when we first worked together
02:23Wow
02:25that was it I
02:28Was
02:29really hot
02:32Like and I knew it yeah, he like got me at my like
02:38God like my goddess
02:41like core moment
02:44The first time Mila, and I met she came in for a meeting to read for the parts, which was really annoyed about
02:51Why was the fifth element?
02:54Like you want me to read for you
02:57Jesus
02:58anyway, she deigned to do it and
03:01she read with a very good friend of mine Jason Isaacs who I'm sure you know and
03:06He was in town, and he's like I want to come in and help anything
03:10So he read with Mila and then Mila left and Jason turned to me, and he said wow that's it
03:16And I said so you think she's great for the movie. Oh, and he said oh forget about the movie you and her
03:25So he felt there was some electricity in the room, and he was not wrong
03:30What is your favorite part of being directed by me?
03:33You
03:38You know what you want, and I
03:42respect and love when directors know what they want and
03:49You know actually one of the the first
03:53bits of direction Paul gave me and the first Resident Evil was um don't ever do that again and
03:59And
04:02She did and I and I didn't and and that it wasn't the punching thing either
04:09But yeah like you you always knew and know what you want, and I think that's one of the most like
04:19Inspiring things for me to work with directors and actor like I'm here for you like I'm here to make your vision a
04:27Reality so when your vision is strong it helps me as an actor to
04:34To do it you know that you get these wishy-washy
04:37people that don't know what they're looking for and then they make you feel awkward because
04:41like
04:43Not really that try something else, and you're like
04:47Huh?
04:49You know but so when you have people who are strong and know what they want. I think that's
04:53Like where the magic happens
