00:00The envelope was sent from Blacksburg, Virginia, on Monday morning.
00:04And looking at a copy, you can even see the handwriting of the clerk checking it in at 9.01 a.m.
00:11Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're looking at the most hateful stomach-turning manifestos
00:16written by perpetrators of mass senseless violence.
00:19Then the Unabomber reached out to the press and said,
00:22I want to make a deal, and it took this case in an entirely new direction.
00:27A call to arms. Uri Krejcik.
00:30Our LGBTIQ community must be safe. We must fight hate.
00:36Matus and Uri should never have been a target.
00:40And their murder shows how far we still need to go.
00:43And I know that this parliament will keep fighting and leading that fight.
00:48Receiving a manifesto of any kind is cause for panic,
00:51but one that's completely anonymous can leave one feeling hopeless.
00:54On October 12, 2022, Uri Krejcik anonymously published his 65-page decree
00:59on who he believed to be his enemies.
01:01He sang the praises of past perpetrators of hate and violence in one sentence,
01:05while bashing those of other religions and sexualities in another.
01:08He even blamed Judaism for the COVID-19 pandemic,
01:12making it clear just how far down the rabbit hole he had fallen.
01:15Just hours after the publication of this document,
01:18Krejcik attacked a gay bar in Bratislava, Slovakia, where he killed two people.
01:22And it was clear he had intended to take more lives.
01:25The Inconvenient Truth, Patrick Krusius.
01:28Police say a gunman is in custody after opening fire
01:32inside a shopping center in El Paso, Texas.
01:34Our next star station in El Paso reports 18 deaths.
01:38A hospital in the area says it is treating 11 people,
01:41nine of those listed in critical condition.
01:44One terror attack can serve as twisted inspiration for others,
01:47and this was just one of many copycats.
01:50Inspired by the horrific attacks carried out in Christchurch, New Zealand earlier in 2019,
01:55Patrick Krusius took to a Walmart in El Paso, Texas,
01:58aiming to replicate the violence.
02:00Before doing so, he posted his final thoughts to the message board 8chan.
02:04His writings were riddled with hate for immigrant and Latin American populations,
02:08houting white supremacist theories alongside the insults.
02:11This attack is a response to the Hispanic invasion of Texas, the author writes.
02:16They are the instigators, not me.
02:19I am simply defending my country from cultural
02:22and ethnic replacement brought on by an invasion.
02:25He also implied that his horrid actions were meant to incentivize migrants to flee the country,
02:29which would strengthen his political cause.
02:32Shortly afterward, he followed through on his twisted plans,
02:35leaving 23 people dead and 22 others injured in his wake.
02:39A federal judge sentenced Patrick Krusius to 90 consecutive life sentences
02:44for the 2019 massacre at an El Paso Walmart.
02:47The 24-year-old from Allen pleaded guilty earlier this year
02:50to dozens of hate crimes charges for the shooting, which left 23 people dead.
02:54My Manifesto, Christopher Harper Mercer
02:57The community, state, and nation is mourning following the mass shooting in Roseburg.
03:02Reading through the contents of a manifesto can reveal
03:04some deep-seated issues held by its author.
03:07This was the case for Christopher Harper Mercer,
03:09who spared one of his peers to deliver his final message to authorities
03:12during his rampage at Umpqua Community College in 2015.
03:16When the document was accessed,
03:17it was clear that there was much more than sheer hatred at play.
03:20His online history indicates he was also fascinated with other mass shooters,
03:25saying,
03:26Seems like the more people you kill, the more you're in the limelight.
03:30If he's making comments about previous mass shooters,
03:33it's that he wants to join the club.
03:36He wants to be special.
03:37He wants to be recognized.
03:39He wrote about being aligned with demonic forces
03:41and how he would join them after his final act,
03:44along with an encouragement for others to also commit senseless violence.
03:48Additionally, the manifesto contained bizarre elements,
03:51such as vile, racist rants about Black men,
03:53a list of bans he enjoyed,
03:55and even a frequently asked questions section.
03:58You told me before you didn't want to talk too much about your son, obviously,
04:02because you're going through so much pain.
04:04But you also realize that people are going to remember him differently now forever.
04:11He'll always be remembered for what he did on Thursday.
04:14I know that.
04:16I can't change that.
04:18You wait for a signal while your people wait for you.
04:21Peyton Gendron.
04:22He exited his vehicle.
04:23He was very heavily armed.
04:25He had tactical gear.
04:26He had a tactical helmet on.
04:28He had a camera that he was live streaming what he was doing.
04:31The gunman shot four people outside in the parking lot
04:34before entering the grocery store,
04:37where he was met by a security guard.
04:39While some manifestos focus solely on the perpetrator's own beliefs,
04:43others seem to reveal a clear lack of original thought.
04:46This is evidenced by Peyton Gendron's 180-page Google document,
04:50over a quarter of which was supposedly plagiarized from other extremists.
04:54Gendron cited message boards as the source of his indoctrination,
04:58but it was his own decision to slaughter innocent grocery shoppers in Buffalo, New York.
05:02This is the worst nightmare that any community can face,
05:08and we are hurting and we are seething right now as a community.
05:15He explained his plans for the shooting,
05:17including how he had selected the area due to its high Black population.
05:21He also included false flags,
05:23such as using photos of an internet celebrity and claiming it was him.
05:26Despite the lack of originality,
05:28this manifesto showed just how widespread such hateful ideologies have become.
05:32You will never see the light of day as a free man ever again.
05:41It is the judgment of this court for your conviction under the first count of the indictment,
05:48a domestic act of terrorism motivated by hate in the first degree.
05:53My Twisted World, the story of Elliot Rodger, Elliot Rodger.
05:58Rodger's mother Litchen discovered the terrifying threat in her email at 9.17 that evening.
06:03She then discovered her son's last YouTube video titled Retribution.
06:08I will slaughter every single spoiled, stuck-up, blonde b**** I see inside there.
06:16The rise of harmful ideologies has led to countless people being hurt,
06:20and he was behind one of the most insidious incidents.
06:23A college student by day and an incel vlogger by night,
06:26Elliot Rodger had no qualms about his digital footprint.
06:29Leading up to his 2014 attack in Isla Vista,
06:32he uploaded several videos and photos explaining his mindset.
06:36Alongside this visual documentation was a 137-page essay detailing his life.
06:41Rodger wrote,
06:42All of those beautiful girls I've desired so much in my life,
06:45but can never have because they despise and loathe me.
06:49I will destroy.
06:50A family friend, Simon Astaire, says Rodger sent his diatribe
06:54called My Twisted World to a couple dozen people including his mother and father,
06:59not long before terrorizing the UC Santa Barbara campus.
07:03He blamed his problems on women,
07:05associating us with disease and implying we shouldn't have human rights.
07:09He also described who he planned to kill and how he intended on doing it.
07:13Even more disturbing, he had convinced himself that he was a hero up until the very end.
07:18Girls gave their affection and sex and love to other men, but never to me.
07:27I'm 22 years old and I'm still a virgin.
07:30He was really, really upset about why is the world so unfair to him.
07:37Untitled, Seung Hee Cho.
07:39You had a hundred billion chances in the ways to have avoided today,
07:42but you decided to spill my blood.
07:45You forced me into a corner and gave me only one option.
07:49The decision was yours.
07:50Now you have blood on your hands that will never wash off.
07:53While some people make their violent intentions known long before acting,
07:57others leave no signs until it's too late.
08:00Before carrying out two attacks at Virginia Tech on April 16, 2007,
08:04Seung Hee Cho was largely unremarkable.
08:07He was often described as completely silent,
08:09with only his school assignments showing the dark recesses of his mind.
08:13There was another play about how he was gonna get revenge on a teacher
08:18who had given him low marks, and so he just once again lashed out within the play
08:24with just very brutal, vulgar language. It was hard to read.
08:28On the day of the shooting, Cho mailed his multimedia manifesto to NBC News,
08:33which was delivered the following day.
08:35The package included an 1,800-word essay, photographs, and videos,
08:39in which Cho compared himself to deities and called for bloodshed in the streets.
08:43Even more unsettling, those closest to him believe the manifesto was merely a performance,
08:48meaning we may never know what he was truly thinking.
08:51Much of it is incoherent, laced with profanity.
08:54He rails against hedonism and Christianity.
08:56You just loved crucifying me.
08:58You loved inducing cancer in my head, terrorizing my heart, and raping my soul all this time.
09:03The Great Replacement.
09:05Brenton Tarrant.
09:06The Associated Press reporting that many people have been killed in a mass shooting
09:10at a mosque in the New Zealand city of Christchurch.
09:13New reports of a second mosque in the city also being attacked.
09:17Radio New Zealand reporting at least 30 people have been shot,
09:21although we don't know how badly they're injured.
09:23The proof of this document's horrid nature lies in the copycats it inspired,
09:28some of which appear on this very list.
09:30Brenton Tarrant's manifesto stands out among most,
09:33particularly due to the intentionally bizarre content found within it.
09:37Interspersed between his anti-immigration and white supremacist views were memes and false flags.
09:42Tarrant wanted to sow as much discord as possible by creating false scapegoats,
09:47such as video games and internet culture for his attack.
09:50He called it the Great Replacement.
09:53Now it was based on a book that's been written by a French author,
09:57Renaud Camus, also called The Great Replacement,
10:00and his theory maintains that Europe's white majority is being
10:04actively replaced by northern African, sub-Saharan African immigrants,
10:08many of whom are Muslim.
10:11He included famous copypastas and even encouraged people to subscribe to various YouTubers,
10:16all while maintaining an overall hateful tone.
10:19However, the most glaring detail was his hopes of inciting a civil war.
10:23It was unlike anything authorities had ever seen,
10:26but the ironic tone has become the troubling new norm.
10:30On each of the 51 charges of murder, charges 1 to 51,
10:34you are sentenced to life imprisonment.
10:37I order that you serve the sentences without parole.
10:41On each of the 40 charges of attempted murder, charges 52 to 91,
10:47you are sentenced to concurrent terms of 12 years in prison.
10:50RTF 88, Dylan Roof.
10:53Well, did I kill him?
10:55Well, I guess. I mean, I don't really know.
10:57Well, where's Will?
10:59Well, I don't know how many people or anything like that.
11:02So, did you shoot him?
11:04Yes.
11:06What kind of gun did you use?
11:09A Glock 45.
11:11The internet is a double-edged sword.
11:13It gives everyone a platform to air their views,
11:16including those with hate in their hearts.
11:18Before enacting a horrific shooting at a Charleston church in 2015,
11:22Dylan Roof used the web to present his hatred to an audience.
11:25He penned an over 2,000-word essay wherein he cited the murder of Trayvon Martin
11:29as his gateway into racist beliefs.
11:32Was that your gun?
11:33Yes, I bought it from the gun store.
11:37Anyway, they saw it, but I just sat down,
11:38because I guess they just didn't say anything.
11:41You know, and then I was sitting there and I was like,
11:43you know, just thinking about whether I should do it or not.
11:46You know, that's why I was sitting there for 15 minutes,
11:49just like, oh, you know, like, because I know I could have just walked out.
11:53He then launched into a diatribe of insults against African Americans,
11:57from wishing that racism had been worse throughout history to defending segregation.
12:01He even opened the document by claiming to have grown up in a non-racist home,
12:05making it unfortunately clear that such harmful ideas
12:08can pervade even the most accepting upbringing.
12:10White people are pretending, pretending like we are all the same and equal.
12:15I could not go another day without doing something.
12:18It was worth it.
12:19It isn't up to me anymore.
12:20I did what I could do.
12:222083. A European Declaration of Independence.
12:25Anders Bering Breivik.
12:27It's hard to fathom what could drive someone to commit two separate acts of domestic terrorism,
12:53but a document spanning over 1,500 pages is a good place to start.
12:58Anders Bering Breivik, the man responsible for the 2011 Norway attacks,
13:02which claimed the lives of 77 people,
13:04made his horrid intentions incredibly clear in his manifesto.
13:08In it, he described two years worth of extensive planning,
13:11from renting a farm to identifying the best conditions for creating explosives.
13:16He yelled, I'm going to kill you all.
13:19And he was very accurate on where he was shooting.
13:22Almost every shot hit something or someone.
13:25For an hour and a half, the killer scoured the island.
13:28People started to run into their tents, and when he saw which tent were just closed up,
13:34he just opened it and started shooting.
13:36Interspersed throughout his claims of progressive historical revisionism
13:40and xenophobic rhetoric were guides to both agriculture and violent acts.
13:44Though most of it was plagiarized,
13:46it has still unfortunately gone on to be revered in certain circles.

14:23Along with the latest bomb, he sent three letters.
14:26The letter says the bombings are the work of a group
14:28that hopes to promote instability in industrial society.
14:32The bomber says he will stop if a long article he's written
14:36is published in a major U.S. publication.
14:39While most publish their manifestos before carrying out their attacks,
14:43Ted Kaczynski, better known as the Unabomber,
14:45used his as an incentive to stop the bombings.
14:48Ted Kaczynski, better known as the Unabomber,
14:51used his as an incentive to end his rampage.
14:54For nearly two decades, Kaczynski perpetrated a series of bombings
14:58across the United States.
14:59In 1995, he shocked the nation when he offered to stop his violence
15:03if his views were published.
15:05And controversially, they were.
15:07He made it very clear,
15:08if you publish the manifesto in the New York Times or the Washington Post,
15:12the terrorist group FC will desist from terrorism.
15:16Cases are solved when the subject starts communicating.
15:19Anytime you have someone that wants something,
15:22they usually give away a little bit of themselves.
15:24The question became,
15:26how are we going to take advantage of his offer, if at all?
15:30Kaczynski placed blame upon technology for society's downfall,
15:33even arguing that machines had more rights than humans.
15:36He also proposed that civilization needed to be overturned
15:39to achieve true progress.
15:41While it wasn't steeped in hatred like those who came after him,
15:44it still showed a misguided worldview
15:47and how one can use any cause to justify their violence.
15:50Prosecutor Robert Cleary.
15:52The Unabomber's career is over.
15:55Today, for the very first time,
15:58Mr. Kaczynski offered to plead to a sentence of life in prison
16:02with absolutely no strings attached.
16:05Then his brother David Kaczynski spoke.
16:08I would like to say that our reaction to today's plea agreement
16:12is one of deep relief.
