00:00Quite interesting to watch the audience there, I mean, at various points Republicans got up and,
00:06you know, gave their approval, their thumbs up to what the President was saying,
00:11the Democrats remained seated and hardly clapped at all. Very interesting to see,
00:15though, Republicans not standing up in large numbers when the President talked about tariffs,
00:21and I'm just wondering if you think that's an indication that perhaps people are a little bit
00:24uncomfortable within the party about this particular policy? Yeah, I think you're spot
00:32on on that analysis. I think there's a lot of folks who are nervous about tariffs. Why? Look,
00:38what Trump is doing, writ large, they're hoping will have a downward pressure on prices,
00:44but tariffs taken by themselves are an upward pressure on prices, and politicians of both
00:51parties are hearing from voters right now about how expensive things are, and even though tariffs
00:56may only increase prices in the short term before other Trump policies can kick into lower prices,
01:02they're going to raise prices in the short term, and that's a problem politically. Keep in mind,
01:07Donald Trump doesn't have to run for office again. In fact, Donald Trump cannot run for office
01:11again, and we won't have another presidential election here until 2028, but everybody sitting
01:16on that floor in the House of Representatives last night has to run again in about 18 months,
01:21which means that election starts in about 12 months, if not less than that. So yeah, there's
01:26a lot of people who want to run for re-election who would love to see prices go down, and tariffs
01:31are not going to do that.
