00:31So this isn't mine and this isn't tea,

00:35So welcome back to Bailey's novelties

00:40and just gather and yap and hang.

00:43But first let's drink.

00:46That was some good water.

00:48I decided that I would read y'all's one star rated books.

00:52Yes, I know when I posted that so many of you guys

00:55were like, girl, you're going to put yourself

00:57in a reading slump, reading one star books.

00:59But I will say this,

01:00I asked y'all to leave like a little review

01:02as to why the books were one star.

01:05Some of you guys were so funny and so brutal.

01:09And I was cackling reading the comments.

01:11If you want to read some of these one star reviews

01:13and what y'all said, it's on my book collection video.

01:19But I screenshotted a few of them.

01:21And let me just say this, the few that I did screenshot,

01:24I would like to personally say,

01:25I think they're going to be controversial.

01:27I think they're going to be hot, hot, hotly debated

01:30because some of these are really popular books.

01:33So I'm going to get into reading y'all's one star books

01:35and letting you know if I actually think

01:37they were worth the one star,

01:39if they're better or worse, let's see.

01:43Okay, the very first book that I am reading

01:45that you guys gave a one star review to

01:48is The Betrothed by Kiera Cass,

01:51which is shocking to me

01:53because Kiera Cass wrote the selection series

01:55and the selection series is extremely popular.

01:58But let me just read the one star review

02:01that was left for this book.

02:03This is from Julie Bean and she said,

02:05oof, you might disagree,

02:08but The Betrothed by Kiera Cass was a one star for me.

02:11None of it made any sense.

02:12And the characters and plot were as thin

02:15as see-through fishnet stockings.

02:17Okay, so basically this is a plotless, pointless read

02:22and I'm going to be very confused throughout the whole thing

02:24which would warrant a one star review.

02:27Also, I just have to clap Julie Bean on the back.

02:31This review, seriously, out of all the reviews,

02:33made me laugh so hard, as see-through as fishnet stockings.

02:37Let's see how this goes.

02:42Hold on, I'm literally on page two of this book.

02:49The main character's name is Hollis

02:52and then the king's name is Jameson.

02:55I don't know why, but that's just so not typical

02:58like romance fantasy books like Hollis and Jameson.

03:03Interesting name choices.

03:14Guys, I am 25% of the way through this book

03:18and I still don't understand a single thing that's happening.

03:23We're gonna start this video off so bad.

03:25I do not wanna keep reading.

03:26The girl, the main character is unbearable.

03:29The writing is horribly confusing.

03:32I have no clue what's happening

03:34and I'm a quarter of the way through the book.

03:36I literally have no idea.

03:37I don't know.

03:38I barely know the main character's name.

03:40The writing is awful.

03:43It feels like if a 10 to 12 year old girl

03:48decided to write a Wattpad book.

03:51This is what this feels like.

03:53I'll push through.

03:55I'll try and hit like 40% to see if anything gets better,

03:58but if it doesn't, we may be DNFing the first book.

04:03and I have made literally zero progress

04:07on this book, The Patrons, because it's awful.

04:11It is literally one of the worst books I have ever read,

04:15but I told myself I would make it to 40%.

04:18I am 33% of the way through.

04:21So I'm gonna sit my butt in this hammock

04:23and I'm gonna read to 40% and if it still sucks,

04:27I'm gonna end it.

04:28I'm gonna be done.

04:29I'm gonna DNF and I'm gonna move on.

05:01I just read this line to the team and they all laughed.

05:04Listen, I'm reading it literally from the page.

05:07The following morning was a bustle of activity

05:09as all of my worldly goods were brought up to my new rooms.

05:13I mean, it's so minuscule, but like,

05:16why not just say stuff?

05:18All of my stuff is brought up to my new rooms.

05:20It's just weird choices like that

05:21that make this book so strange.

05:24It is just strange.

05:28Guys, you're never gonna believe what happened.

05:32You're never gonna believe it.

05:34I finished The Betrothed by Kiara Kaz.

05:38I freaking finished the book.

05:41I was on an airplane and it was either

05:43finish reading that book or sit in silence,

05:47which if you know me, I'm an anxious flyer.

05:49So I chose finish the book.

05:51Here are my final thoughts.

05:52That one was a tough read.

05:56I was expecting to come into this video,

05:58like at least enjoying reading some of y'all's one stars.

06:01Like I knew it might be tough, but like not that tough.

06:04No, like when I say this was a well-deserved one star,

06:08it was a well-deserved one star.

06:12I think I haven't read a book where I was like,

06:14this is what they mean by one star

06:17until this book, the writing was so bad.

06:20The main character was unbearable.

06:23She was such a terrible friend.

06:25Her friends were terrible to her.

06:27The love interest was terrible.

06:29And it started halfway through like them dating.

06:33And then all of a sudden she meets another guy

06:35and it's just like in five pages, she's like jumping ship.

06:38And literally when I say this book was awful,

06:41it literally was a Wattpad like written by a 10 year old.

06:44And I'm so shocked that this is the same author

06:47that wrote the selection.

06:48That was rough.

06:50I'm so like, you guys should go subscribe

06:52simply to reward me for having to read that book.

06:56Like actually I deserve a subscribe from y'all.

07:00I hope this next one is an easier read.

07:13Okay, so the next one star book that you guys commented

07:18and told me that I should read is,

07:21this one might shock y'all.

07:29I know this one was actually very popular on BookTok.

07:33The author is very popular on TikTok.

07:35I've heard good things about this series.

07:37I've also heard bad things about this series.

07:39So I thought it'd be interesting for me to read it

07:42and confirm whether or not it was bad, like y'all said.

07:45Here is the one star review

07:50telling me to read Light Lark.

07:56So clearly this girl might know what she's talking about.

07:58She said, okay, so my one star reviewed book is Light Lark.

08:01I know a lot of people love it,

08:03but the writing was so bad.

08:05There were multiple sentences

08:06that weren't even complete sentences, just fragments.

08:10Guys, I don't know if I can do another book

08:12that's written like grammatically incorrect.

08:15I really don't know if I can do it.

08:16I literally swore at the book so many times

08:19because of the writing.

08:21There were lots of plot holes and parts

08:22that just needed more world building to justify them.

08:25However, in saying that,

08:26I still finished the book because I was intrigued.

08:28It had the potential to be really good,

08:29but needed way more editing

08:31and better defined world building.

08:32Whew.

08:34Okay, where to start with that?

08:38First of all, she said she swore at the book.

08:40Am I prepared to do that?

08:41Yes, I'm prepared to love and hate it.

08:43I'm prepared to think whatever I need to think

08:45about this book,

08:46but I truly want to know if it's as bad as you say.

08:48Is the grammar as bad?

08:49Is the sentence structure as bad?

08:51Is it as poorly written as you say it is?

08:53I do like that this girl said she finished the book.

08:55Apparently I'm capable of doing that

08:57even if I hate every second of it.

08:59So let's get this bad boy started.

09:02One more thing I feel like I need to add.

09:04I'm 99.9% sure that this author is posting

09:08that it's being developed into a movie or a show,

09:10which usually only happens when a series is popular.

09:14So this one might be a controversial one

09:17because clearly people like it.

09:51So we've been reading out here

09:52since the weather's been warm.

09:54This is where I'm gonna begin my Light Lark journey.

09:56Let us begin.

09:58And I'm probably gonna spin as I read this

10:00because this chair naturally spins.

10:02So bear with me as I spin in a circle.

10:16Okay, so I feel like I'm literally on page one.

10:19I already have something to say.

10:20Every fantasy book starts like this.

10:22They start naming lands or saying made up words

10:27that like, you're kind of like, what?

10:28I don't understand what's going on.

10:30Here's an example.

10:32I'm literally three paragraphs in.

10:34And it says,

10:35in the beginning, the puddle of stars

10:36took her unexpected places.

10:38The snow villages of the Moonling Newlands,

10:41the airy Jubilees of the Skyling Newlands,

10:43a few lands that hadn't been settled

10:45by any of the six realms at all.

10:47What does that, it's like reading a foreign language.

10:50Like what does that actually mean?

10:52Okay, I am 172 pages into Light Lark.

10:56And for the first time in this whole book,

10:59I found a writing error.

11:02One of the sentences says,

11:03she whispered words into his ear that made him frown.

11:05It's almost like you want me to drop you.

11:07That sentence was supposed to be reversed.

11:08It should have been,

11:09he whispered words into her ear that made her frown.

11:13At least I think that's how it's supposed to be written

11:14because contextually, that's the only way it makes sense.

11:17But to be fair, I'm 172 pages in

11:20and that's the first writing error

11:22I feel like I've noticed.

11:24I am kind of loving the story.

11:28So I'm gonna keep reading.

11:30Hopefully I'll finish this today or tomorrow.

11:33Guys, all I've done is read all day and I'm on page 399.

11:38I'm pretty sure I'm like five pages

11:40from finishing this book.

11:42I'll give my thoughts when I'm done,

11:43but I thought I'd record myself finishing the book.

12:10to finishing Light Lark,

12:12which you guys gave a one star review to.

12:17I, I'm simply gonna have to disagree.

12:25Do I think it's like a hundred out of five,

12:28like the best book I've ever read?

12:29No, but the difference between reading The Betrothed

12:33where I literally couldn't get myself to pick the book up

12:37versus this where I read it in one day

12:40should tell you everything you need to know

12:41about how much better this book was.

12:44This was not a one star book.

12:47I thought the storytelling was really unique.

12:49I thought that there were definitely twists and turns in it

12:53that were not super predictable.

12:56I don't know, I loved it.

12:57I was really, I read the entire thing in one day.

13:00Like obviously I liked it.

13:01Fantasy Book Lover 57, I am so sorry, but I don't agree.

13:07I think that this book was solidly like a four star

13:11or four and a half star book.

13:13Hopefully the next couple are as good as this.

13:18Okay guys, another day, another one star book to read.

13:22Today's one star book is, drum roll please,

13:27Ice Breaker, this one.

13:30Okay, I honestly gasped when I read

13:32that this was a one star

13:34because I have had no less than five friends read this book

13:38and say that it was really good.

13:40I know nothing about this book

13:41because like I've prefaced before,

13:43I am not much of a romance book reader.

13:46I read mostly fantasy or like Regency romance.

13:49I thought because I didn't start the video properly

13:51with my glass, I would do it halfway through.

13:53So here's today's cup.

13:56For Ice Breakers, wow.

13:58All right, needless to say,

14:00I've had a lot of friends say Ice Breakers was pretty good.

14:03Although again, like I said,

14:04I don't know much about romance novels.

14:06So I am not the expert here.

14:08I have downloaded it.

14:09Here's the one star review that Taylor Lewis 8109 left.

14:15Now bear with me, I'm gonna speed myself up reading this

14:17because it is a long one, but it's quite hilarious.

14:20So Taylor says, okay, my one star book was Ice Breaker.

14:22Please, please read lightly.

14:24I'm not hitting on you.

14:24If you enjoyed this book, I see it's random.

14:26I picked it up because I had a ton of people

14:27recommend it to me.

14:28So that's exactly how I was.

14:29And say they loved the romance and the storyline.

14:30I loved a really silly romance

14:31in between the fantasy reads as a mind break,

14:33but this one broke me for real.

14:34I just could not take it seriously.

14:35For a book that was so smut driven, okay, good to know.

14:37This is a smut book.

14:39Even though scenes were written poorly

14:40and please don't get me started on the Uber scene.

14:42Now I'm curious.

14:43I physically cringed multiple times

14:45and had to take breaks from the book

14:46due to secondhand embarrassment.

14:49Other than the smut,

14:50there were far too many side characters and plots.

14:51I got so lost in the mix that I forgot the initial plot,

14:52which the story already left.

14:53There was too much going on and nothing at the same time,

14:55which I don't think was possible.

14:56I really wanted to like the book.

14:57A book talk hyped it up heavily,

14:58but it fell extremely short.

14:59Then I read the sequel anyway

15:00and tried to give the world another chance

15:01with new characters and it was worse.

15:02Maybe I'm too caught up in the fantasy realm now

15:03where nothing will measure up.

15:04Who knows?

15:07Okay, I have some thoughts.

15:08I cannot do secondhand embarrassment.

15:12Secondhand embarrassment, like watching shows,

15:22It sounds like there is some smut

15:23that's not written very well potentially

15:26and way too many characters.

15:27I guess we'll have to put it to the test.

15:34At the top, when you download it,

15:35it says over 1 million copies sold.

15:40it was like TikTok made it viral.

15:43This is definitely the one everyone's talking about.

18:28as watching a reality TV show.

18:32but you watch it anyway because it's so good?

18:34That's how this is.

18:35It's like trash, like, but it's good at the same time.

18:38But is it actually good?

18:40It's like comparing Game of Thrones,

18:43which is like the best show of all time

18:45to like Love is Blind or like The Bachelor.

20:29I'm dying, I literally can't do it.

20:33Conversationless, plotless, thoughtless, smut book.

20:39Which I'm not judging if you like that, good for you.

20:43I have no judgment, not a bone in my body,

20:45but it is not my kind of book.

20:47I want some substance to my storyline.

20:50This is exactly what I described it as.

20:52Trash reality TV in a book.

20:55But this is something I'm gonna have to DNF.

21:34that one of y'all commented about was actually shocking.

21:39It was another one I was so surprised to see as a one star

21:43because I've had so many friends recommend this book for me.

21:48It is The Silent Patient.

21:50Dun, dun, dun, dun.

21:53I've had so many people recommend this.

21:57Like my mom, my mom gave me this book.

21:59That's how I have this book.

22:00My mom and my grandma, this book's biggest fan.

22:03So I'm like, I'm shocked to have seen.

22:07And it wasn't, this was not the only one.

22:08There were multiple one star reviews.

22:10So this is what Amelia said.

22:12Amelia Lucille, 21 said,

22:15my one star book is called The Silent Patient.

22:17I hated every minute of this book,

22:18but I wanted to know what happened in the end.

22:20When I finished it, I had an hour long talk with my sister

22:23about how much I hated everything.

22:26These were the worst characters I had ever read.

22:28Without spoiling too much,

22:30Theo deserved everything that happened to him.

22:32I know a lot of people love this book,

22:33but I'm not one of them.

22:34When I finished, I couldn't look at it anymore.

22:36It made me so mad that I donated it

22:38to my local library that day.

22:39After reading another one star book called Mexican Gothic,

22:42I realized that thrillers are not for me.

22:44Zero stars would definitely, would not recommend.

22:51because she's the one that recommended this

22:53and said it was a really good book.

22:54Versus Amelia, who says she hated everything

22:58and these were the worst characters she's ever read about.

23:02Let's give The Silent Patient a go.

23:04I can't remember the last time I read a thriller book,

23:07so I do not know what to expect.

23:14Immediately.

23:15Chapter one, Alicia Brenton was 33 years old

23:18when she killed her husband.

23:19And I just read a journal entry of her saying

23:21she loved her husband,

23:22but she'd never do anything to cause him pain.

23:24I'm hooked already.

23:26I want to know why.

23:27Why?

23:28Why did she do it?

23:34Okay, you guys, we are going on a little road trip.

23:37Not really a road trip, like an hour long drive

23:39to go get my hair cut.

23:41So in the meantime, I'm gonna continue reading

23:44The Silent Patient in the car on the drive.

23:47Okay, we're back and the hair has been cut

23:50and it looks freaking amazing.

23:53It's still long, just a trim.

23:54So she's healthy, she's glowing, she's glossy.

23:57Natural hair, natural cut, natural color, all this stuff.

24:01So it wasn't very long, but the sun did go down.

24:03So I'm gonna keep reading on the drive home.

24:06I am 117 pages into The Silent Patient today.

24:10I'm hoping to finish it by tonight.

24:12So far, I'm enjoying it.

24:16I'm not much of a thriller reader,

24:19but so far this is definitely not a one-star book.

24:23So we'll see if that continues down the train of thought.

25:15This was a good book.

25:17This was not a one-star book.

25:20I would probably give it like a 4.5 star book.

25:23Look, do I agree with her that the entire story of this,

25:27the characters are not meant to be likable people.

25:30You know, this is a murder mystery.

25:31So anyone that's like involved in a murder

25:34is probably not someone that you're meant to like.

25:37So I do agree with her that the characters

25:38aren't the most likable characters,

25:40but that does not mean that the book was not good.

25:42That was super, super good.

25:45There's a definite twist at the end.

25:47I was shocked.

25:48That was not a one-star.

25:50That definitely deserves at least a four-star.

25:51I'm actually really glad I read this.

25:54One of the first ones that wasn't fantasy

25:55that I actually really liked.

25:57And with that, I'm gonna wrap up this video

25:59because I have no more one-stars to read.

26:02Honestly, this is a lot easier than I was expecting it to be

26:05because I thought the one-stars would be like unbearable.

26:08And to be honest, only two of the four were unbearable,

26:11only two of the four.

26:12So I'd say that's a pretty good ratio,

26:14all things considered.
