00:00Many Filipinos started their 2025 with a job.

00:04In fact, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority,

00:08the employment rate of Filipinos has increased compared to the previous year at the same time.

00:13Here is the center of the news.

00:17The unemployment rate in the country has once again decreased while the number of people with a job has also increased compared to the previous year.

00:25According to the latest data of the Philippine Statistics Authority,

00:28as of last January, the unemployment rate of the country has decreased by 4.3%

00:33from 4.5% compared to the same month in 2024.

00:37The Labor Force Participation Rate, or LFPR, has also increased by 63.9%

00:43which is equivalent to 50.65 million Filipinos who are actively looking for or currently working.

00:50Almost everything that was added to our labor force went to employment.

00:55The unemployment rate is actually only 7,000.

00:59It has not affected the unemployment, it did not increase the unemployment rate.

01:08In fact, our unemployment rate, even though the number of unemployed has increased, it still went down.

01:13So it went down to a negative 0.2 percentage point, our unemployment rate.

01:20I'm talking about year-on-year movement of our unemployment rate and levels.

01:29At the same time, the unemployment rate also decreased by 13.3% from 13.7% last year

01:37while 6.47 million people are looking for or currently looking for a job.

01:43PSA explains, at the same time, employment and underemployment rates are increasing,

01:48particularly in the agriculture sector.

01:50Usually, our observation is that when employment in agri and wholesale and retail increases,

01:56the tendency is that underemployment also increases.

01:59Because most of them, most of those underemployed are in agri.

02:03This is when you see that agriculture and wholesale and retail trade is also increasing

02:08because most of those underemployed are in these industries.

02:12When it comes to regions, the highest unemployment rate in Bicol Region is 6.5%,

02:18while the lowest in Zamboanga Peninsula is 2.3%.

02:22Meanwhile, the employment rate increased by 95.7%

02:26which is higher than the 95.5% in January 2024.

02:31In total, the number of unemployed Filipinos reached 48.49 million this January.
