00:00At 12.01am, President Trump stabbed America's best friend in the back.
00:07My message to the President is this.
00:10Canada will fight back.
00:12We will defend our people and our economy.
00:15And we will put Canada first.
00:19There is no doubt that our economy will suffer.
00:22But so will yours, President Trump.
00:24In fact, you're already paying the price,
00:27trillions of dollars erased in stock market value over the last month of these threats.
00:31Already, Americans are paying higher gas prices.
00:34At midnight, a new American gas tax kicked in on U.S. working class taxpayers and motorists.
00:44Your workers will soon start losing jobs.
00:47Jobs they had upgrading Canadian raw materials,
00:50which, by the way, you were getting at an incredible and ridiculous bargain.
00:55And your businesses will be selling fewer products to your closest neighbor.
01:00And that's only the beginning.
01:02While Canadians are slow to anger and quick to forgive,
01:05once provoked, we fight back.
01:07And we will fight back.
01:09Now, I'd like to speak to the millions of Canadians who are anxious today
01:15after learning that President Trump has attacked our economy.
01:18To the autoworkers, the forestry workers, the steel and aluminum workers,
01:23the mining and energy workers, the truckers, the farmers.
01:26To all of you who get out of bed before the sun rises and do the labor of the nation.
01:32You are afraid right now.
01:34And I understand.
01:36I want you to know that I will fight for you.
01:40I will fight for your job.
01:42I will fight for your family.
01:44I will fight for your chance at owning and paying off a home.
01:48And I will fight for your retirement.
01:50And I will fight to put Canada first.
01:53Before these tariffs came in this morning,
01:56you must have been asking yourself,
01:58how could things get any worse?
02:01Before these tariffs, you were already suffering.
02:04You wondered how you'd pay the rent,
02:07or eventually dream of buying a home after housing costs had doubled over the last decade,
02:12rising faster than in any other G7 country.
02:15You've downgraded your diet,
02:17as food prices have risen 37% faster in Canada than in the United States over the last five years.
02:24You might be one of the two million people,
02:27a record-breaking number lined up at food banks,
02:30a number that has more than doubled before these tariffs applied.
02:35You've likely noticed that your paycheck is not keeping up with the record inflation,
02:39as Canada's GDP has grown less and lower than any other G7 country over the last decade.
02:45You might have noticed that your company has already been moving jobs to the United States,
02:49as greedy and self-serving CEOs put their share prices ahead of your job,
02:55and a half trillion dollars net has left from Canada to Trump's America,
03:01under the current Liberal government.
03:03And now this.
03:05But I'm here with a message of hope.
03:07We will overcome this attack on our economy.
03:10And I have a plan to do it.
03:12First, we must retaliate, targeting American goods in the following order.
03:17A. Goods that we can make ourselves.
03:20B. Goods we don't need.
03:22And C. Goods we can get from elsewhere.
03:26Second, counter tariffs must not be a cash cow for the government.
03:30Almost every penny of the tariffs collected should go to tax cuts,
03:34with a small sum set aside for targeted relief to workers hardest hit by the trade war.
03:39None of the money should go to new government spending and programs.
03:44We must not allow politicians to dishonestly use this crisis
03:48to once again launch a debt-fueled, money-printing, spending spree
03:54that will drive up inflation and further destroy the working class and hit the poorest people the hardest.
04:00Third, we must immediately pass a bring-it-home tax cut
04:05on work, investment, energy, and home building.
04:09The idea is to neutralize the cost of the tariffs with lower taxes
04:14and incentivize massive new investment in building stuff here in this country.
04:19The obvious place to start is to get rid of the Liberal carbon tax,
04:23then ax the sales tax on new homes,
04:26we need to reverse the Liberal capital gains tax hike,
04:29and slash income tax so that hard work pays off and you bring home more of each dollar you earn.
04:35Fourth, we must immediately repeal the Liberal no new pipelines law, C-69,
04:42a law that not only blocks all pipelines but stops mines, refineries, export plants,
04:48and all kinds of other energy infrastructure,
04:51and makes us hopelessly reliant on one customer, the Americans,
04:54a customer we cannot count on anymore.
04:56We must green light LNG plants that Liberals say there is no business case for,
05:02so that we can no longer have to sell 100% of our gas exports to the Americans,
05:09we can sell it to Asia and Europe,
05:11and help break the European dependence on Putin,
05:14turning dollars for dictators into paychecks for our people.
05:18Five, you know what industry Donald Trump does not control in Canada?
05:22Home building.
05:24It is a home-grown industry.
05:27We must get rid of all taxes and red tape
05:31to unleash the biggest home building boom this country has ever seen,
05:36bigger than the post-war boom when our heroes were coming back from that war.
05:41We need to build homes faster than ever,
05:44and that means removing the bureaucracy, the red tape, the taxes, and the gatekeepers,
05:48and I will make it happen.
05:50That will also boost demand for softwood lumber.
05:53The loggers are suffering after Biden hit them with tariffs already.
05:57Six, let's get our provinces together to knock down trade barriers
06:02so that we can lower prices and boost wages for our people.
06:05Seven, we must secure our borders and rebuild our military
06:09to assert our sovereignty and strength in the world.
06:13All these things, taxing taxes, building homes,
06:18unleashing construction of our resources, fixing the budget, stopping crime,
06:23all of these things were conservative fixations before the tariffs.
06:27Now they are even more necessary.
06:31But none of these things have happened in the last hundred days
06:34since Trump first launched his tariff threats.
06:36Look behind me. Parliament has been closed.
06:39Liberals shut it down to focus on their political battles.
06:42So the job-killing carbon tax is still in place.
06:45The sales tax is still in place on new homes.
06:47The no new pipelines law is still in place.
06:50The massive inflationary deficits are still in place.
06:53Not one law has been changed. Not one tax has been cut.
06:57Not one action has been taken to free us from the grip of Trump and the U.S.
07:01We need change, and we will get change.
07:04It will be tough.
07:06Building Canada was tough, and so were Canadians.
07:10We will bring home the country we know and love and restore its promise.
07:15Canada will be self-reliant, sovereign, and stand on its own two feet.
07:20We will build on the great legacy and vision of John A. Macdonald
07:25of uniting our country east to west.
07:28You'll reward work, unleash entrepreneurs, harvest resources,
07:32make our own goods, trade with each other, build homes for our youth,
07:36rebuild our borders and military, honour our history, and raise our flag.
07:41What binds us together is the Canadian promise
07:44that anyone from anywhere can achieve anything,
07:47that hard work gets you a great life in a beautiful house on a safe street
07:50protected by solid borders and brave troops under a proud flag.
07:57To preserve that flag and its promise,
08:00we must work together, fight together, and win together.
08:04That is what it means to put Canada first,
08:07because Canada is worth fighting for, for our people,
08:10for our land, for our home, for our country.
08:13Let's bring it home.
08:15Do you agree with Donald Trump?
08:18Do you agree with Donald Trump?
08:21Do you agree with Donald Trump?
08:23Should we set up aid programs to help Canadians?
08:26And more generally, when the federal government sets up aid programs,
08:30should they spend money?
08:32We must be targeted to respond directly to the needs of the population
08:39because of the trade war.
08:44But we should not use the crisis to create other programs that are not linked to the crisis.
08:51As we have seen during COVID,
08:54Liberals have spent 80% of the new added expenses during the COVID period.
09:00They had nothing to do with COVID.
09:03So we need to set up aid to target people who are directly affected.
09:10Real estate insurance must be there to help them pay their rent,
09:15their groceries, and other costs.
09:18But at the same time, the vast majority of funds raised by tariffs
09:22should be used to cut tax rates
09:25in order to launch our economy and make it more sovereign.
09:30Mr. Obama, the decree that is coming into force today
09:34is related to the measures at the border with Fontanelle.
09:37Do you think the government has done enough?
09:39And do you believe this argument by Mr. Trump
09:42that this is really why tariffs were imposed, or is it just an excuse?
09:47So, no and no.
09:49And it is possible to say that Liberals have not done enough to protect Canadians
09:53from Fontanelle.
09:54I have said this for two or three years,
09:56long before Mr. Trump took office.
09:59But that is not the justification.
10:01Mr. Trump has no justification for imposing tariffs on Canadians.
10:05There is no justification.
10:07There are weapons and Fontanelle,
10:11and illegal immigrants who come from the United States to Canada.
10:16Is it his fault?
10:18It is not an excuse.
10:20Yes, we must attack Fontanelle, but not to please Donald Trump.
10:24It is so that no mother receives a slap on the face
10:29from a policeman to inform her that her son died on the street.
10:34We must protect our people.
10:36We must put life sentences in place for large Fontanelle sellers.
10:41We should add another 100, excuse me, 2,000 border agents.
10:47We must put drones, surveillance towers, scanners, boxes that enter our country.
10:54We must stop Fontanelle for Canadians, not for Mr. Trump.
10:58How would you support Canadian business and work?
11:02Sorry, I didn't get a chance to say that in English.
11:04The question was, have the Liberals done enough on Fentanyl,
11:07and is that a good justification for Trump's tariffs?
11:11And the answer to both questions is no and no.
11:13No, the Liberals have not done enough on Fentanyl,
11:16but not because they should have been doing it for Trump.
11:19They should have been doing it for Canadians.
11:21We've lost 50,000 people to Fentanyl.
11:24That's more than died in the Second World War,
11:28and that is because of the weak borders, the soft laws,
11:32and the radical liberalization of drugs that the Liberals experimented with
11:37and that they want to continue on with.
11:39I would ban the drugs at 2,000 CBSA border guards,
11:44more surveillance towers, scanners, and drones
11:46to interrupt the illegal entry of Fentanyl into our country,
11:50and I would treat Fentanyl dealers for what they are.
11:53They are mass murderers, and they will get life sentences when I'm prime minister.
11:57But let's be clear.
11:58That is not a justification for tariffs.
12:02We have guns, drugs, and illegal migrants coming from the United States to Canada.
12:07We have never tariffed the Americans for that.
12:10If the president wants to fight Fentanyl, I agree with him,
12:13but I would do it not for President Trump.
12:16I would do it for Canadians so that not one more mother
12:20gets the knock on the door from a police officer
12:23telling her that her son has died in a back alley.
12:25Do you believe that the Tariff Relief Support Package,
12:30or whatever you want to call it,
12:31would require reopening the House and passing legislation?
12:34Is this something you're open to doing,
12:35even if it requires supporting the Liberals on Congress?
12:37We should have had the House open for the last two months.
12:40No, we haven't.
12:41That's a question for the Liberals.
12:42They're the ones that shut down Parliament,
12:44and that's why we haven't had those debates.
12:46Last question!
12:48He's not a MAGA guy.
12:51He's not a MAGA guy.
12:52He's not a MAGA guy.
12:53He's not a MAGA guy.
12:54He's not a MAGA guy.
12:55He's not a MAGA guy.
12:56He's not a MAGA guy.
12:57He's not a MAGA guy.
12:58He's not a MAGA guy.
12:59I don't like what he says about me.
13:01How do you think you will build a personal relationship with Mr. Trump in this context?
13:06What will be your strategy to approach him?
13:08If you ever win.
13:10But it's true, I'm not for MAGA.
13:13I'm for Canada.
13:15Canada first.
13:16I know that Mr. Trump doesn't like me.
13:20That's correct.
13:21I don't work for him.
13:23I'm not interested in being loved by Mr. Trump or anyone else.
13:27I'm here for Canadians first,
13:30and I'm going to defend our country,
13:32our jobs,
13:33our security,
13:35and our sovereignty,
13:36peu importe ce que les politiciens ailleurs au monde pensent de moi.
13:41Sir, is this about annexing Canada?
13:44Why is this about annexing Canada?
13:47I'm beginning.
13:48Sir, is this about annexing Canada?
13:51Is that the endgame here for Donald Trump?
13:53Let me be clear.
13:54I'm going to combine the two questions.
13:56The gentleman asked in French about President Trump's comments on me.
14:01The President says that he doesn't like me.
14:03He doesn't think that I'm a MAGA guy.
14:05I am not.
14:06It is true that I am Canada first.
14:09I'm only for Canada.
14:11I'm fighting for the interests of this people and this country.
14:16And if that upsets foreign leaders, including the American President,
14:19I'm fine with that,
14:20because I have one job to do,
14:22and it's to fight for this country.
14:24And let me be also clear.
14:26We will never be the 51st state.
14:29We will be self-reliant, sovereign,
14:32and stand on our own feet.
14:34We will be an independent and a sovereign country,
14:37and I will always stand up for our flag and our people.
