ow to Reference Option 2 – Watermark Method in SketchUp
The Watermark Method in SketchUp allows you to overlay an image (like a reference sketch or logo) as a background or foreground watermark to assist in modeling. Here’s how to use this method:
Step 1: Import the Watermark Image
Go to Window Styles to open the Styles Panel.
Click on the Edit Tab (second icon).
Locate the Background Settings (it looks like a sky and ground).
Click on the Watermark Button (small image icon).
Step 2: Add and Position the Watermark
Click Add Watermark and select the image you want to use.
In the Watermark Settings Window, choose:
Foreground (if you want the image to overlay the model).
Background (if you want the image behind the model).
Adjust the Opacity and Size to control visibility.
Click Next, then Finish to apply.
Step 3: Use the Watermark as a Reference
If using a Foreground Watermark, you can trace over it with the Line (L) or Rectangle (R) tool.
If using a Background Watermark, align your model by adjusting the camera view.
Adjust transparency anytime in Window Styles Edit Watermark.
Step 4: Save or Export with the Watermark
Go to File Export 2D Graphic to keep the watermark in a final image.
For editing, go back to Styles Panel and disable or adjust the watermark.
Final Tips:
✅ Use low-opacity watermarks for better visibility while modeling.
✅ Combine this method with Match Photo for more precise modeling.
✅ Hide the watermark when you no longer need it (Styles Edit Uncheck Watermark).
