Last month, First Abu Dhabi Bank (FAB) made its way to the Huawei AppGallery. The FAB mobile banking app allows UAE customers to manage their accounts and credit cards, transfer money, and pay their bills directly from their mobile device. This latest addition to the Huawei AppGallery reflects Huawei’s commitment to working closely with developers and partners in the financial industry. We sat down with Ramana Kumar, Executive Vice President & Head of Payments and Digital Banking PB at First Abu Dhabi Bank to understand the reason behind this partnership.

00:00One of the core values of First Abu Dhabi Bank is customer focus and we want to be wherever
00:11our customers are.
00:12So what it means is whichever platform the customers are in, we want to be part of that
00:16platform.
00:1710% of our customers or more than 10% of our customers use Huawei phones, which means us
00:22being part of Huawei App Gallery was a decision we have to make and was a quite easier one
00:28for us to make.
00:30And why Huawei?
00:31Huawei App Gallery and Huawei is one of the fastest growing smartphones in the country
00:36and based on the last report, it's number two in the country.
00:39So there was no reason why we shouldn't partner with someone who is the number two smartphone
00:43company in the UAE.
00:46And also Huawei comes up with a pretty strong app gallery.
00:49And one of the core aspects for us to offer our mobile banking or our applications on
00:54a platform is the security of the platform.
00:57And what Huawei brings on is a very strong security layer with a four-factor authentication
01:02or approval of the developers and with a full review of the process.
01:07So which means it's a real-time authentication and real-time review.
01:10So we are very comfortable with the security layers of Huawei and we are very comfortable
01:14with our customers using Huawei phones to be served with FabMobile banking application
01:19and hence the partnership.
01:24Our mobile banking strategy is always about creating value for our customers.
01:28So what happens is, as part of our digital strategy, we believe in mobile convergence.
01:33For us, convergence is the way.
01:35So today we have a very strong proposition, which is Fab1, where a customer can register
01:40and get their current account or savings account registered on a click of a button just uploading
01:45their Emirates ID.
01:47It just takes less than two minutes to apply and to get a current account.
01:51We also have pretty strong full digital journeys within our mobile banking application.
01:56So we now have an ability of our existing customers to get their credit cards just on
02:01a click of a button.
02:02We also have our existing personal loan customers who can top up their personal loans based
02:07on eligibility criteria, all seamless through a click of a button.
02:11So everything for us is about building a journey that is completely convergent.
02:15Now that's on the sales side.
02:17On the service side, we are moving away from a very branch and contact center based model
02:23to a mobile based model, where our customers are given opportunities to chat, there is
02:27an inbox within mobile banking, there is in-app notifications, and there are many more artificial
02:34intelligence and bot usage tools that are going to come in very soon that our customers
02:38can use and get their service request addressed.
02:42So for us, the key and the value we bring on is a convergence of mobile platform, more
02:47than a transactional tool, and more of a lifecycle app for our customers.
02:57So our FAB's mobile banking strategy is all about hyper-personalization.
03:01We want to move away from every app looking the same boring financial services app into
03:07more hyper-personalized app for each and every customer.
03:11For that, we are building strong tools in terms of knowing what the customer wants,
03:16what are the preferences, whether the customer looks on the left side or the right side or
03:19up and down, and what is the right features needed for a customer.
03:24And that's how the hyper-personalization is built on.
03:26Secondly, we are working on platform independent models, which means we want to be part of
03:31those platforms where we build in APIs that we can connect with most of the fintechs or
03:38the right fintechs that can work with us and work on building a futuristic platform.
03:43It's all about the right partnership, and it's all about being part of those platforms
03:47which can give us those partnerships where it adds value to our customers.
03:50At the end of the day, our customers have to get the best services and options out of
03:56the mobile banking app than wherever they go.
04:03So back to the point of referring to our FAB mobile banking strategy and our application
04:08of being part of the platform, the idea is that we want to be in partnership with all
04:13the players who provide us those platforms.
04:15And Huawei is the third largest platform application store that is available in the world, right?
04:21And with so many applications present, so many developers around, and all the fintech
04:26associations we want to have with, we want to be part of this platform.
04:29And that's where our association with Huawei has been.
04:33And our association with Huawei is much more than in terms of, you know, most of the top
04:38applications in the world and in UAE are anyway part of the Huawei.
04:43And we also want to be part of this, you know, innovation.
04:46So Huawei has HMS Core, which is a platform that provides innovation for all the developers.
04:50And we want to be benefiting from all these developers who come up with new applications
04:55that can provide value to our customers.
04:58Our experience with Huawei was fantastic, you know, Huawei's team worked hands-on with us.
05:03And, you know, it's all about both teams wanting for something to make it happen.
05:07And, you know, Huawei team came up with dedicated people, experts who worked with our mobile
05:13banking teams to make it happen.
05:15We are going to have a lot of customer awareness campaigns, which we are going to work with
05:19Huawei with.
05:20It's a pure play partnership.
05:21It's not about technology, a vendor or a banking provider.
05:26And so on.
05:27It's all about us coming together to provide the right value for our customers.
05:30Huawei also has a very strong one-stop shop for operational support.
05:35And that's where we benefited a lot from Huawei's operational support.
05:39And with their around 3,000 strong engineering support across the globe, I think we have
05:44a strong partnership with them and they provide a superior support, which will help both of
05:50us to ensure that we provide the right services to our customers.
05:53And hence, the partnership is something that benefits.
05:56It's a win-win for us, for our customers and for Huawei.
