Some of us are classic Big Mac or Filet-O-Fish lovers, while others like to try new things, but McDonald's has revamped their menu numerous times, and it can be a little overwhelming to order at the fast food joint these days. Have you ever wondered what is not best to order from the McDonald's menu? Maybe that will make it easier to order. We've got the expertise of McDonald's staff to give us insight on what you shouldn't order. Who better to give insight than the people who work around the food? Here are McDonald's menu items that even the staff won't eat.

00:00McDonald's employees might have the whole menu at their disposal when it comes time
00:04for them to order their own meals, but what do they skip?
00:07These are the items that McDonald's employees won't touch, so maybe you shouldn't, either.
00:13Chicken nuggets might not be the mystery meat they used to be, but according to alleged
00:16former McDonald's employees on Reddit, many still give nuggets a miss, despite them being
00:21a serious customer favorite.
00:22I've eaten them every day for 15 years!
00:25And you called 911 because they're out of chicken nuggets?
00:28At least employees make sure they're not grabbing some off the stack of food that's
00:31ready and waiting to be served.
00:33Pre-made batches of nuggets are kept warm by a dual-purpose timer that's supposed to
00:37encourage employees to toss nuggets that have been sitting out too long.
00:40But multiple employees say that while they use the timer, they would rarely throw the
00:44nuggets out and make fresh ones.
00:46Instead, they'd just reset the timer.
00:48Some claim the nuggets tasted just fine even after sitting through several turns of the
00:52timer, while others describe the old nuggets as questionable, at best.
00:56Also specifically ask for fresh nuggets, or opt for something else.
01:01One McDonald's employee went into extreme detail on Reddit to explain why they refuse
01:05to drink any beverage that comes out of the McCafe machine.
01:08They claim it's incredibly difficult to clean completely, and that in their experience,
01:12it's one of the machines that gets routinely neglected.
01:15They describe the insides as being caked with inches of gunk, and claim they've seen it
01:19at multiple locations.
01:21Like all of these tales of terror, it's an instance where it really depends on the location,
01:25as several other employees have chimed in to claim that their store cleans their McCafe
01:29machine on a nightly basis.
01:30But if you don't know for sure how diligent your local employees are, it's probably not
01:34worth taking the risk.
01:36A number of alleged former employees say to avoid filet of fish, or at least ask for one
01:41that's made fresh, as ready ones have probably been sitting in a heating cabinet for hours.
01:46Other employees claim it's also one of those sandwiches that's just impossible to make
01:50neatly.
01:51The combination of tartar sauce, cheese, and slightly greasy fish means that when you get
01:55it, it's going to be a sloppy mess.
01:57The filet of fish is an evil cancer square created to destroy America."
02:03While some locations likely make fish fresh, it may be limited to the ones with particularly
02:08diligent managers who go the extra mile.
02:10In 2017, social media had a meltdown when a McDonald's employee from Louisiana posted
02:15pictures of a tray he pulled out of the ice cream machine at his location.
02:19According to an employee identified as Nick, the drip trays were pretty much never cleaned
02:24and typically filled with a moldy, rotten goo.
02:26I couldn't believe my eyes.
02:28I was like, I've never seen something this disgusting."
02:31McDonald's issued a formal response, saying that food never came in contact with the tray,
02:36which was actually designed to catch the machine's lubrication grease, but was still supposed
02:40to be cleaned on a regular basis.
02:42Nick was fired not long after his post, but he's not alone in his warning.
02:46Other employees on Reddit thought they pinpointed the real problem.
02:49Other employees who didn't care enough about any part of their job, including the complicated
02:52process of cleaning an ice cream machine.
02:56This might break the hearts of a ton of McRib fans, but multiple employees say that this
03:00cultishly adored sandwich is actually one to avoid.
03:03One former employee claimed that they saw it before it was sauced and said,
03:07"'It doesn't look like meat at all.
03:09It looks like a scab.'"
03:10Other employees claimed that in spite of the McRib's devoted following, not a lot of people
03:14actually ordered it.
03:15That meant the already funky-looking patty would spend all day in the sauce, making it
03:19even funkier.
03:20It turns out that the bun might be hiding a lot, and if employees won't eat what they
03:24see, maybe you should give it a miss, too.
03:27This one's a little different.
03:28In 2013, McDonald's warned employees against eating too much fast food on its own employee
03:33website, saying in part,
03:34"...while convenient and economical for a busy lifestyle, fast foods are typically high
03:38in calories, fat, saturated fat, sugar, and salt and may put people at risk for becoming
03:43overweight."
03:44Along with the warning was a photo of a hamburger and fries.
03:47Other parts of the Post warned cheeseburgers were generally an unhealthy choice.
03:52Even stranger, the fries and soda featured in the Post were McDonald's Red, though they
03:56were missing the logo.
03:57And that's the most bizarre bit of advice of all, McDonald's recommending that its own
04:01employees not eat much of their own food, because it's inherently unhealthy.
