00:00Based on the monitoring of a maritime security expert,
00:03three ships of China approached the Philippines this weekend.
00:06Let's hear from Jonathan Andal.
00:12The three ships of the China Coast Guard are this close to El Nido, Palawan.
00:16Only 35 nautical miles or 65 kilometers.
00:20Based on the estimate and monitoring of a maritime security expert
00:24and former U.S. senior defense official, Ray Powell.
00:27They're getting pretty close.
00:28I'm not sure it's alarming, but it's certainly concerning.
00:30They believe their nine-dash line goes right around here
00:33and they're going to go right to the edge of where their nine-dash line is.
00:35It's becoming more and more common.
00:38So, you know, we're starting to see more and more of these intrusive patrols near Palawan.
00:44Just last week, a Chinese research vessel was also spotted in Palawan.
00:49But the Philippine Navy said that it followed the protocol of the ship
00:53that it only avoided bad weather.
00:56The ships of the China Coast Guard in Palawan came from Scarborough Shoal
01:00and went down to El Nido, but left immediately.
01:03We tried to confirm this with the Philippine Coast Guard,
01:06but they haven't responded yet.
01:08Last February 2 in Bolinao, Pangasinan,
01:10two ships of the Chinese Coast Guard also approached.
01:13But now in Palawan, they sent three ships.
01:17Usually, they go sort of one or maybe two at a time.
01:20So, taking three ships is sending a particular message of strength.
01:24China's monster ship is no longer in the West Philippine Sea, according to Powell.
01:28But there is still a Chinese Coast Guard ship here.
01:32One of them was pushed by the Philippine Coast Guard away from Zambales,
01:3695 nautical miles from the interior of the province.
01:39But it's still inside the EEZ or Exclusive Economic Zone of the Philippines.
01:44Your illegal activity will be reported to higher authorities. Over.
01:48China's ship was pushed away by the BRP Cabra
01:51on the other side of the Zambales.
01:54It reached five to eight nautical miles.
01:57According to Powell, this is done by intrusive patrols by China,
02:01which is not illegal.
02:03It's just aggressive, right?
02:05So, what the Philippines has tended to do is to send out a ship or a plane
02:10or something just to monitor it.
02:12But according to the maritime law expert, Atty. J. Batong-Bakal,
02:15the Philippines needs to convince other countries to take action against the United Nations.
02:21The UN is not taking much action because, first of all,
02:24there are over 160 member countries.
02:27And second, many of them were influenced by China.
02:32Their approach to the Coast Guard vessels is a threat.
02:36All of this means that they are showing that they are really stealing the sea
02:43and they really want to subjugate us.
02:46Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio
02:51personally talked about how to strengthen the alliance of the Philippines and America
02:55to support Rubio's so-called destabilizing actions of China in the South China Sea.
03:00The Armed Forces of the Philippines rebelled against the so-called Southern Theater Command of China,
03:05that the Philippines is interfering in China's maritime rights
03:08when it joins patrols with America and Canada in the West Philippine Sea.
03:13The AFP said that the Philippines is not interfering.
03:16We are still trying to get the statement of the Chinese Embassy about this.
03:20Jonathan Nandal reporting for GMA Integrated News.
