00:00Well, this is a pretty scary story. That's why I decided to write about it because it
00:08affects all of us. The world is witnessing more heat waves and more intense heat waves,
00:14and these are expected to get worse. As we speak, more than 100 million people in the
00:19United States alone are living under some kind of heat wave warning. In Death Valley
00:23in California just a few days ago, there was a temperature of 53.3 degrees Celsius that
00:29was recorded, which is insane. And then you have large parts of Southern Europe, popular
00:33holiday destinations that have witnessed record-breaking heat at this time. For example, Italy and
00:39Greece where temperatures have been well into the late 30s and 40s. The Acropolis was shut
00:44down for visitors for a few days by Greek authorities. That's how hot it was. Now, climate
00:49scientists have warned in a new report that these heat waves are going to intensify in
00:54the near future. And it could now lead to large parts of the world witnessing more droughts,
01:00witnessing water shortages, even food shortages. All of this has a cascading effect then on
01:05us, on the economies and on our daily lives. It's very clear that whatever targets that
01:11have been set to mitigate climate change are not being met. And this is a problem that
01:17we have to deal with as an emergency right now. It's not happening in the next century
01:21or 300 years from now, or whatever, what we used to think once upon a time. This is
01:26happening now.
