An emergency fire has come close to homes in the south-west town of Dunsborough after it rapidly took off in thick bush. The blaze was heading towards the townsite as fire fighters on the ground and water bombers in the air worked to stop it.

00:00Residents on edge as the fire bore down.
00:05Police had come around and just told us to evacuate and we got the text message.
00:10Because we've only got one road in and out, that's sort of when I was feeling a little bit unsafe.
00:18The fire jumped over Cape Naturalis Drive and into a bush reserve,
00:22as authorities urged people to watch for burning embers blowing around their homes.
00:27So we just came out and had a look. It was pretty black, the sun was orange. It's not good.
00:32Massive fire. A few of our mates, their houses are just up there.

00:37So they had to go home and get evacuated.
00:41Water bombers attacked the blaze at the popular tourist spot.
00:44It's a bit unnerving, but you know, the fireys were onto it straight away, which was really awesome.
00:50Light winds meant firefighters had one less factor to contend with.
00:54The emergency level warning and evacuation order came as many locals here in Dunsborough were out enjoying the sunshine,
01:01leaving many with just minutes to grab the essentials and go.
