00:00Today in Ser Humano, we know the life story of Carmen Isabel Vargas, a woman who overcame
00:18the addiction to alcohol and compulsive shopping, and who now carries a hopeful message.
00:24In addition, we receive the social and political activist Juan Josit, who shares his life experience
00:30as a homosexual diagnosed with HIV and an activist for the rights of the LGBT community,
00:37and knows the details of the new Intran campaign against car accidents,
00:42which seeks to reach the heart and consciousness of all Dominicans.
00:48We are going to talk about addictions, and we are honored to welcome the author of this book,
00:57Carmen Vargas' book, From Addiction to Restoration in 90 Days.
01:02Our guest is now, is it possible to restore us from an addiction in 90 days?
01:08She is going to offer her own testimony.
01:11Hello, welcome to the program. How are you?
01:13It's a pleasure to be here.
01:15Venezuelan, Dominican, Dominican, Venezuelan, you've been here a long time.
01:19Dominican, Venezuelan, it's a great honor.
01:21And how did you find this country?
01:24I found out it wasn't so Dominican when I played Venezuelan and Dominican in the Caribbean.
01:29There she goes for Venezuela.
01:30There she forgot.
01:31But the country has welcomed you well.
01:33I was coming to this country when I was 17 years old, and I always thought it was beautiful,
01:38I always came back recurrently, until I stayed.
01:41That's good. We look a lot alike, I think, in the end.
01:46Can you tell us about your personal testimony?
01:50You know that addiction is a biopsychosocial disease
01:55that affects our biological part, our emotional part, and our spiritual and physical part.
02:02How did I start on the subject of addictions?
02:06I remember that when I was about 5 or 6 years old, at home, which was normal to drink,
02:13my parents had a bottle of champagne and I drank it.
02:17Imagine, at 5 or 6 years old, 7 years old.
02:19But not the whole bottle.
02:21The whole bottle.
02:24I obviously spent three bad days in bed,
02:27but the worst part of all that was that my mom and dad laughed at me.
02:33And that's when my career with alcohol began.
02:35Did they drink a lot?
02:36Yes, all my life, in my whole family, in my whole house.
02:38And that's what I learned, that's what I did with my eldest son.
02:41So, every day you drank at home?
02:43Every day it was normal to drink, at parties, birthdays, non-birthdays, wherever.
02:49And, obviously, at 5 or 6 years old, I didn't drink every day.
02:53But I remember that my dad left the bottle there and I smelled it,
02:56and that made me like...
02:58and I put my finger in it, the big one, and I tasted it.
03:02And so I grew up.
03:03When I was 16 or 17 years old, I would run away from school with my classmates.
03:08We would go to the supermarket, we would steal cigarettes and bottles of alcohol,
03:12and we would go to a bar to drink.
03:15And then I went to college,
03:17and I continued with my life drinking, but I focused on studying.
03:21At 20 years old, I graduated as a lawyer,
03:23and that's when it started, because I started making money.
03:27And people understand that a person who...
03:29because it wasn't that you saw me drunk or ugly.
03:32No, like this, beautiful, always accommodating, with a lot of flow,
03:35but always drinking.
03:37And what level of consumption?
03:39With what frequency?
03:40Every day.
03:41Every day?
03:42Every day.
03:44Every day.
03:44And a lot of quantity?
03:46The one who has an issue with alcohol can't stop.
03:48That's why it's said in the self-help groups,
03:51one is too much and a thousand are not enough.
03:53Because I have to stay away from that first drink.
03:58And what kind of drink?
04:00I really liked the champagne, the first one I drank.
04:03But everything that was a sweet drink, I liked it.
04:05I didn't like beer, because I'm fat.
04:09And could it be a normal life?
04:12I mean, be productive?
04:13And that instead of helping you, it helps you.
04:16Because the one who is functional understands that he doesn't have a problem with alcohol.
04:19Okay.
04:20That for a while, he didn't understand that he had an addiction.
04:23Throughout my life.
04:24I went through a recovery process 11 years ago.
04:27And it's also important to understand that addiction is not alcohol,
04:32it's with what you get.
04:33Because when I was happy, I drank.
04:35But if I was sad, I bought.
04:38And if I didn't want to take on my family problems, I worked.
04:44So it was an addiction to drinking.
04:46Obsession, compulsion, negation, egocentrism and spiritual emptiness.
04:51It was a way to anesthetize what you were feeling.
04:55Anesthetize emotions, not knowing how to handle emotions, feelings.
04:58And always find something to anesthetize it with,
05:01to fill that void in the heart.
05:03You said it was a biopsychosocial disease.
05:06On a social level, how did it affect relationships with others?
05:10And above all, the relationship with the family.
05:12With the family, what I learned,
05:15or what I thought was good, was what I told my son.
05:18And my son was 14, 15 years old and he was drinking with me.
05:22And in fact, I went through a process of recovery,
05:25through a process that started with my son.
05:28How?
05:28My son also had to go to a rehabilitation center,
05:31because he went from alcoholism to other things.
05:34I'm not going to talk much about that topic because it's not in my inventory.
05:37But I remember that he stayed that day,
05:41and that day I got home and I drank two bottles of Pacharan.
05:44The next day I got home and I drank two bottles of champagne.
05:47The next day, two bottles of rum.
05:50And the next day I went to visit him, it was August 18, 2013.
05:57And when I saw my son there,
05:59in that center that looked like crazy people,
06:02or something, and he told me,
06:03Mom, I'm an addict.
06:04Mom, I'm an addict.
06:05When I got out of there, I told him,
06:07God, as long as my son is clean, I'll never drink again.
06:10But I didn't have a problem.
06:12My problem was my son, he was the culprit,
06:14because I had given him everything in life.
06:15How he goes, it's him, him, him.
06:18And to turn that focus towards me,
06:21and to check myself, to see my part,
06:25led me to conclude that, I mean,
06:28I also had an addiction problem.
06:30Okay, so how do you solve that?
06:33You always hear from addicts that it's impossible to do it alone,
06:38that you need to go to a center,
06:40that you need therapy, to stay all your life.
06:43What do they call it? Addicts in recovery, something like that, right?
06:46Addicts in recovery.
06:47So, how did you achieve that recovery?
06:50And in 90 days?
06:52In 90 days, in my book.
06:55Okay, okay, but in your case.
06:57Because I started going to self-help groups.
07:00First I went to the addicts, who are the dependents,
07:03because I didn't have a problem, my son had no problem.
07:05And it came to the point when I understood,
07:07I mean, when I was in the groups,
07:10I listened to the parents saying things,
07:12and I was so bothered by what they said about people,
07:14because I was the one who saw myself.
07:16So that's when I started to say,
07:17well, but I also have a problem.
07:19He was in that because I taught him.
07:22He drank with me and he was with me.
07:24And then I started to check myself
07:26and I started going to the self-help groups
07:27of anonymous alcoholics.
07:29And I think there is nothing more healing
07:31and more restorative than identification.
07:34With the other who is going through the same thing.
07:36With the other who is going through the same thing.
07:37I remember that the first time I went to a self-help group
07:40of anonymous alcoholics, there were about 35 people,
07:43and I think they all talked about me.
07:45And I said, but this is impossible.
07:47To what they want, Carmen said, but it's true.
07:50It was what I felt.
07:51It was how I felt.
07:53And then time passed and I was always kind of distressed,
07:59kind of worried, I couldn't breathe.
08:01And even when I went to groups,
08:03one, two, three times a day,
08:04to calm that distress,
08:06which at one point I calmed them
08:09with those insane behaviors,
08:10whether it was drinking, buying, sleeping, whatever.
08:13I started attending a Christian church.
08:16And I started putting God in my equation.
08:18And I understood that the one who doesn't put God in the equation
08:20doesn't recover.
08:21That's why you see people who have 10, 15 years
08:24of recovery and fall,
08:25because they are atheists,
08:26because their higher power is the table,
08:28because their higher power is the group.
08:30You have to put God in the equation.
08:31The one who doesn't put God in the equation doesn't recover.
08:34Do you think that's the difference?
08:36That's the difference.
08:38In fact, the 12 steps talk about that,
08:40about believing in a higher power.
08:42There I go.
08:43In the self-help groups,
08:44they work with 12-step programs, right?
08:47And when I came to the feet of Christ,
08:49I discovered that the 12 steps are in the Bible.
08:53They don't say they're in the Bible,
08:55because the one who is in the group is so resentful
08:57and so hurt by God, by life,
08:59that if they talk to him about the Bible,
09:00or the word, or God, they leave.
09:02For example, which of those steps,
09:04and how are they in the Bible?
09:05The first, I recognize that I have a problem in my life.
09:10My life is ungovernable.
09:11And the second step, I believe in a higher power
09:13that is greater than me,
09:15and that helps me stay clean.
09:17And so there are many, all the steps,
09:19I arrive in the fourth step,
09:21responsibly to a moral inventory of myself,
09:24and I recognize my mistakes and I begin to amend them.
09:28And so when I discovered that, I said,
09:30but this has to reach people in the groups.
09:32I have so many friends,
09:33for so many years I've been going to the self-help groups,
09:36and I have to say this somewhere.
09:38And God put that in my heart,
09:40why 90 days?
09:41Because in the self-help groups,
09:43when you are new and just arrived,
09:44they tell you, give yourself 90 meetings in 90 days.
09:49And then people kind of start to space out.
09:50I had to go every day,
09:52and two and three times for about two years.
09:56But that's the origin of 90 days.
09:59And with this manual, can people work alone,
10:03or do they really need those groups,
10:06those therapies, those anonymous alcoholics?
10:09I would say that it is part of the recovery,
10:11attending a self-help group,
10:13putting God in the equation.
10:14Every day I also,
10:16to everyone who buys the book and writes to me,
10:18I tell them, I'm here for you,
10:20write to me, I can help you.
10:21And it's like a devotional,
10:23and it has a part to write to you.
10:24And every day I tell them to make an inventory.
10:27For example, today the day was
10:28to make an inventory of the times you stumbled.
10:32Because the problem is that we have a situation,
10:36we have a topic with an addiction,
10:38and we don't have a problem,
10:39because the culprit is the other one.
10:41How long have you been without drinking?
10:4311 years.
10:45Nothing, nothing, nothing?
10:46Absolutely nothing.
10:47And in those cases, you can't drink,
10:50not even the social drink?
10:53Well, I wouldn't drink it.
10:54Does it cost a lot to do this?
10:56Does it have to be kept away from activities?
10:59At first it's difficult.
11:01At first it's difficult because the program says,
11:05stay away from places, people and circumstances
11:08that can lead to a relapse.
11:09And then you have to change your environment,
11:11stop being with those companions.
11:14In my case, God was so good to me
11:15that the reason I stopped drinking
11:17was bigger than me.
11:18The son's.
11:19My son's.
11:20And he managed to recover?
11:22He's 11 years old, he's three days older than me.
11:25Oh, because he started first.
11:27He started first.
11:28And then what happens?
11:30That motivated you to drink,
11:32that motivated you to buy in excess,
11:35and the other thing was to work?
11:36To work, to sleep, whatever, anything.
11:39But sleeping is good.
11:40Yes, but I didn't sleep three days in a row.
11:43So I wouldn't think, so I wouldn't feel.
11:45And you can sleep three days in a row
11:46without anything, in a natural way?
11:49Yes.
11:49Without products or anything?
11:51Without products or anything.
11:53God, I didn't know.
11:55Okay, so that's what motivated you to drink in excess,
11:58to buy in excess, to sleep, to work in excess.
12:01So now, how do you handle it?
12:03That need no longer arises?
12:06I wouldn't say that, I identify it
12:09when I enter into that obsessive thought with something.
12:12Now, thank God, I'm caught up with the Bible,
12:14with reading, with writing,
12:16and I already identify it.
12:18Immediately, I identify it
12:19when I'm entering into an obsessive-compulsive conduct
12:21and I stop, I stop, I think, and I meditate.
12:24But it's a process, it's a process.
12:25But it's a long process of self-knowledge.
12:28It's a long process of self-knowledge.
12:30And I'm not going to say that in 90 days
12:32a person is going to recover,
12:34but it's the beginning of the path.
12:36Thank you very much, Carmen,
12:38and good luck with this publication.
12:40May it continue as you and your son have designed it
12:46and may it help and touch many hearts
12:49through this publication and all the works you will do.
12:52Thank you very much.
12:54And when we come back,
12:55we will talk with Juan Jose about his statement
12:59that he says that he is proudly gay,
13:03he also talks about his situation with HIV,
13:07we will also talk with him about politics,
13:08and much more.
13:09We will be back shortly.

14:21You think you are happy,
14:24but this is not the case.
14:26Here, in life,
14:28you have to enjoy
14:30and deal with what you have.
14:36One day we sat down
14:38and we promised ourselves
14:40we would have our own house
14:42so that the baby on the way
14:45could grow up happy and calm.
14:48But deep down,
14:50we felt it was impossible.
14:53Until the Ministry of Housing and Buildings called us
14:56and we started jumping,
14:58but happily.
15:01This is our dream.
15:04We live in our own house.
15:07Many Dominican families
15:09are already living a dream
15:11that seemed impossible.
15:13More than 9,000 houses,
15:15built and delivered.
15:17Having your own and dignified house,
15:19yes you can.

21:12.
21:42The park was completely militarized, the three streets that cross it had military vehicles,
21:51there was a military band playing in the park, which I had never seen before, and since then I have not seen it again.
21:56And there was a very evident intention of wanting to persuade us not to do it.
22:03And finally we did the performance, because in the end it was not possible to prevent it.
22:10And we filmed it, and let's say that this also prompted me to go to the program, to talk about the community.
22:19Well, I was just commenting in Camerino that the first time I went to a radio show,
22:24when we were leaving, the interviewees who came in were commenting that we had to fumigate the...
22:33The commentators said that.
22:36And I put it as an example to understand how much we have advanced in that sense.
22:42Because since then, let's say, now in my campaign, which I had last year in the campaign,
22:46I never had a moment where I felt rejected, discriminated against by any means,
22:52and I went to many media that were very conservative.
22:55You know that I started with politics because I understood that it was something that defined you more,
23:01but I see that no, that what defines you the most is being gay.
23:05Well, I don't know if...
23:06Because you put that topic in the first place.
23:08Of course. Well, let's say that it has been in my politics, in my political life,
23:12because let's say that being an activist is political, of course.
23:15It was like the seed.
23:18And when did you realize that you were gay?
23:20Look, I realized very early, like at 13 years old.
23:25More or less.
23:26Like at 13 years old, the internet.
23:29One thing led to another, and suddenly I felt things that I had never felt before.
23:35And how did your family react?
23:37Well, at that moment, my family didn't know.
23:39Because it was a crazy moment, because there were a lot of emotions.
23:43It was like, wow, of course, I'm feeling excited like I've never felt before.
23:47It was also a happiness, because at the same time, like,
23:51getting to know each other, oh, this is what I am.
23:54You accepted it.
23:55I accepted it immediately, but I also immediately knew how problematic
23:59my sexual orientation could be for other people.
24:03And let's say that I didn't officially leave the club until I was 21 years old.
24:10Which, well, for other reasons.
24:12I was very depressed.
24:13My dad had passed away.
24:14It was a terrible time.
24:16I was very depressed.
24:17And my psychiatrist insisted on the issue of sexual orientation.
24:23For me, it wasn't a problem with myself, let's say.
24:26And then she asked me, well, then why didn't you leave the club?
24:29And I said, well, because my heterosexual brothers haven't left the club yet.
24:33When I have a boyfriend to introduce to my mom, then we'll go out.
24:37And I told her, look, to prove to you that I don't have a problem,
24:41for the next session, I'll have already left the club.
24:45What happens is that it's very uncomfortable.
24:47I mean, at what point do you tell your mom,
24:49my mom had me when I was 40 years old.
24:51And at that time I was 61.
24:53A Roman Catholic apostolic woman.
24:56How do I tell you this?
24:58I also sensed that there wouldn't be much of a problem.
25:01Because, well, then...
25:03And well, and that happens in the days.
25:05I can't find the way.
25:06How do I tell my mom?
25:07I can't find the way.
25:08And I had to take her to Cariboutour.
25:12Because if I went, my mom would look at me.
25:15And on the way, I was late, I was late,
25:18she ended up eating lunch.
25:19But you said that on the way.
25:20On the way, I asked her.
25:22I can't tell you here.
25:24And then she told me,
25:25Mom, you know I'm a whore.
25:28Mom swallowed it dry.
25:31And she told me, well, look, my son, yes, I knew you were different.
25:34You never brought a girlfriend home.
25:36You are, you know, very particular.
25:38I mean, we know and we accept you as you are.
25:42I really have a conflict with my religion.
25:45I mean, but my religion doesn't ask me to reject you.
25:48On the contrary.
25:49I mean, just like you, I love you.
25:51The testimony you gave about health moved me.
25:55What motivated you to do that?
25:57How was that process?
25:59Wow.
26:00Look, well, I found out that I lived with HIV in 2018.
26:07Which was one of the worst years of my life.
26:11Because, let's say, a few months later, my mom passed away.
26:14Which was, well, and still is, let's say,
26:16one of the great inspirations and motivators of my life.
26:19But I felt a little there that I lost everything.
26:23And from that moment, I felt that I should also contribute
26:30from any service, from any job.
26:32And what better way than from my personal testimony.
26:35And I still waited a year because I didn't know how to do it.
26:39Let's say, to get to where I am now with the topic.
26:43But I always wanted to do something.
26:45And especially because of the International HIV Day.
26:48Which is a day precisely to give testimony.
26:51And that day, I don't know, several years had already passed.
26:53And I was like, oh, it happened to me, it happened to me.
26:55Oh, I want to do it.
26:56Let's do a script, I don't know what.
26:57And I said, look, you know what?
26:58Here, now, I, with Instagram and my cell phone,
27:00we are going to answer questions about it.
27:04And we flowed.
27:06And I said it.
27:08And well, I also educated about it.
27:10Because in the campaign, I had mentioned it.
27:13But no one...
27:15It was like my campaign speech.
27:19One of the main ideas is that I believe in the state.
27:26I believe in the government.
27:27I believe in public policies.
27:28Because I am alive thanks to public policies.
27:31We have the fortune of being one of the few countries
27:35where the public system subsidizes medicines.
27:39You receive your treatment completely for free.
27:42Everything completely, from the first day.
27:44And that keeps you alive and healthy.
27:46And alive and healthy, undetectable.
27:48That means that for the treatment,
27:50the viral load is so low
27:52that not even because I give you blood,
27:55you are going to get infected.
27:57Okay, but you have to keep that treatment for life.
27:59But I have to keep, of course, for life.
28:01I have to take a pill every day.
28:04Did you know through whom you contracted?
28:08Yes, I knew.
28:09Because let's say it's part of the process, normally.
28:12Does that forgive you?
28:14Does it bother you?
28:16Do you hate that person?
28:18It was a lot of emotions.
28:20Because think about it.
28:21Of course, I was...
28:22All my life...
28:24I mean, think about it.
28:25I grew up...
28:26Of course, the 90s was my adolescence, my youth.
28:28And of course, I am from that generation
28:30that they raised me by telling me
28:32that I was going to die.
28:34Because gay, AIDS.
28:36And at that time,
28:38there was no such effective medicine.
28:41So let's say that was my cuckoo all my life.
28:44And I always,
28:46even though I have protected myself
28:48and such,
28:49and there was a moment or another
28:51when I always did the tests
28:53because that is the strongest tool.
28:55Let's say, to know your status,
28:57whatever it is.
28:59And I was going with a certain reluctance.
29:01And also, there is another program
29:03that also makes us very advantaged,
29:05which is PrEP.
29:07PrEP is pre-exposure prophylaxis.
29:10That is, it is a pill
29:12that is basically the same one I take
29:14that people who have not yet been infected
29:16take to prevent
29:18getting infected with the virus.
29:21And well, there is also PEP,
29:23which is post-exposure.
29:25Let's say something happened,
29:27unfortunately you were raped,
29:29you had a high-risk relationship,
29:31you can go to a clinic and tell them,
29:33look, I had a high-risk relationship,
29:35I need PEP,
29:37which is a treatment that lasts two weeks,
29:39which are the same pills,
29:41and this prevents a 99%
29:43that you have been infected.
29:45No, we are already at nothing
29:47that the same PrEP,
29:49studies are already being done
29:51and tests above all,
29:53so that there are injections
29:55every six months or annually.
29:57Almost a vaccine.
29:59Hence the importance of your testimony
30:01so that people continue to take care of themselves
30:03but lose their fear
30:05because there are treatments.
30:07Your experience as an aspiring registrant,
30:09how was it?
30:11Look, incredible.
30:13It has been one of the best experiences,
30:15still very hard,
30:17very strong,
30:19a lot of work,
30:21especially with the few resources
30:23that we had,
30:25first,
30:27it is a party that accepted me,
30:29I was a member of the political direction
30:31of the party,
30:33I never had issues
30:35like me or other people,
30:37even if there were,
30:39there were members who suddenly,
30:41but it was always handled
30:43in a fairly democratic way, open.
30:45That's what you provoke sometimes,
30:47because you put on your makeup,
30:49well produced, right?
30:51That's what I do.
30:53But let's say
30:55that's one of my motivations.
30:57And precisely because I understand
30:59that through these provocations
31:01certain dialogues open up
31:03that we normally don't have.
31:05For example,
31:07can a homosexual person be a candidate?
31:09No.
31:11I mean, do you have to wear a skirt or not?
31:13Do you have to dress in a way or not to be?
31:15That changes the way the person
31:17will exercise their work.
31:19Thank you, Juanjo, for this
31:21spontaneous and sincere
31:23question on your part.
31:25Success in everything, especially health,
31:27with politics, a stable couple,
31:29if you want it, because it may not be.
31:31A stable couple as you deserve
31:33and you know, the doors of being human
31:35are always open for you.
31:37Thank you very much.
31:39Thank you very much.
31:41And when we return, be aware of
31:43the campaign to reduce deaths
31:45by accidents in the country.
31:47We'll be back soon.
31:51We'll be back soon.
32:21We'll be back soon.
32:51We'll be back soon.
32:53We'll be back soon.
32:55We'll be back soon.
32:57We'll be back soon.
32:59We'll be back soon.
33:01We'll be back soon.
33:03We'll be back soon.
33:05We'll be back soon.
33:07We'll be back soon.
33:09We'll be back soon.
33:11We'll be back soon.
33:13We'll be back soon.
33:15We'll be back soon.
33:17We'll be back soon.
33:19We'll be back soon.
33:21We'll be back soon.
33:23We'll be back soon.
33:25We'll be back soon.
33:27We'll be back soon.
33:29We'll be back soon.
33:31We'll be back soon.
33:33We'll be back soon.
33:35We'll be back soon.
33:37We'll be back soon.
33:39We'll be back soon.
33:41We'll be back soon.
33:43We'll be back soon.
33:45We'll be back soon.
33:47We'll be back soon.
33:49We'll be back soon.
34:173,000 people die every year in the Dominican Republic
34:21due to traffic accidents.
34:25And 70% are motorcyclists.
34:28I let go of that.
34:30In the end, it's one who loses.
34:32And life, life is worth more than a motorcycle race.
34:38Be aware and drive carefully.
34:41Be aware and drive carefully.
34:44In these 58 years,
34:46we have been the drive that moves commerce,
34:48favoring foreign investment
34:50and providing opportunities for our people.
34:53We have sown the seed that allows us to harvest
34:56and export our joy and smiles,
34:58typical of what is done in RD.
35:0058 years being the unconditional support
35:03of the industries,
35:05forgers of commerce
35:07and promoters of MIPIME.
35:09We are the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MIPIME
35:12and we are with you.
35:22We continue.
35:26We are going to stop being in the first places
35:30of the countries with the highest number of deaths
35:33due to traffic accidents every year.
35:35But for this, it is necessary,
35:37not only, and this is very important,
35:39that the authorities fulfill their duty,
35:42but that we, as citizens,
35:45also do our part.
35:47Hence the importance of joining
35:49this interesting and very important campaign
35:53Be Aware RD.
35:55And precisely the creative director
35:57of this campaign is with us,
35:59Opiel Salcedo.
36:01Hello, welcome home, human being.
36:03How are you?
36:04Very well, very well.
36:05Thank you for the opportunity,
36:07your space, that so many people see it.
36:10And that they see it interesting,
36:11above all, that they respect it.
36:12Thank you very much.
36:13I know that there are many families
36:15with grief,
36:17who have lost members of that core
36:19and who understand the reason for this campaign.
36:21But for those who do not,
36:23why Be Aware RD?
36:26Be Aware RD is born from the problem,
36:29but above all,
36:30with the death statistics
36:31that in the last six years
36:33have directly impacted the country.
36:35Every year we see an increase
36:37in the issue of sinestrality
36:39and, above all, imprudence
36:41of human beings.
36:43Only in 2024,
36:45more than 3,000 people died
36:48from traffic accidents.
36:50And that is something so painful
36:52that more than 50% of young people
36:55are between 15 and 35 years old.
36:58And that has been something
36:59that has left a generation in mourning.
37:01That is to mention one of the cases.
37:04So Be Aware...
37:05It's like an epidemic.
37:06Of course.
37:07So Be Aware is born
37:09with what are the six risk factors
37:11in the road issue.
37:12Wearing a seat belt,
37:14not driving under the effects of alcohol,
37:17which is a normal issue here.
37:18People drink a beer in their vehicle
37:21with their family,
37:22as if nothing had happened.
37:24I go to a town and I have a drink,
37:26and it's something normal.
37:27Some say that this is not the case,
37:29but some say that alcohol
37:31helps them increase their reflexes,
37:34and it's quite the opposite.
37:36Look, it's a matter of culture.
37:37Someone told me
37:39in a program
37:40that education is needed.
37:42And I told him,
37:44I disagree,
37:45because there are many educated people,
37:47ill-educated,
37:48and something so simple.
37:49There are many people
37:50with a certain level
37:51who don't wear a seat belt
37:52so that their shirt doesn't get wrinkled,
37:55doesn't get dirty.
37:56There are vehicles that exceed
37:58a cost of $50,000 to $60,000
38:00that people put their seat belt on
38:02so that their penis doesn't bother them.
38:04Something so simple.
38:06I believe you because you are you.
38:07Something so simple.
38:08So that's one of the issues.
38:10But look at something else.
38:11Wearing a seat belt,
38:13not driving under the effects of alcohol,
38:16or other substances.
38:17If you drive, don't drink.
38:18And what are other points?
38:19There is another point
38:20that is also affecting a lot,
38:22that although there are certain sectors
38:23that don't notice it,
38:24are the clandestine races.
38:27Here there is a scourge
38:28that affects a lot
38:29because they close on November 6th
38:32in Jaina,
38:34the tunnel of the 27th,
38:36in Las Americas,
38:37and they race for almost
38:39a million pesos
38:40in a clandestine way.
38:42But you know,
38:44the people and families
38:45that are left totally,
38:48and those guys
38:49are not the owners of the bets,
38:51they are the ones who pay them
38:52in the neighborhoods,
38:53$15,000, $5,000
38:55to leave their lives.
38:56And almost usually without clothes
38:58because they even iron themselves.
39:00So that's a scourge
39:01that affects at night,
39:02that even looks like a movie.
39:03And those who watch the race from a distance
39:06are people who handle it,
39:07it's a mafia.
39:08And that is leaving the mourning.
39:10And sorry,
39:11there are complicities
39:12because many times
39:13you see people with uniforms
39:15taking care of the stage
39:16so that that race can take place.
39:18Totally.
39:19So that's where we go.
39:21From the central government,
39:22the Intran,
39:23especially now
39:24with Morrison's administration,
39:25he has committed himself
39:26to an issue of education.
39:27Sometimes you can develop
39:28public policy,
39:29but if you don't tell society
39:31what their commitment is,
39:33sometimes we understand
39:34that it is a matter of state,
39:36but it is a matter of conscience.
39:38And being aware
39:39and the pieces that are there,
39:41that we can see
39:42and in the media,
39:43is the result of your imprudence.
39:45If you are going to take
39:47and handle,
39:48you can affect families,
39:50you can leave orphaned children.
39:52There is a piece by Awilda
39:54that 20 years ago,
39:56in Carrefour,
39:57a person driving
39:59ran over her
40:00while she was waiting for a vehicle.
40:02When she opened her eyes,
40:04it only took her 15 seconds
40:06to go get her leg.
40:0820 years ago,
40:10on October 13, 2005,
40:12my life changed.
40:14A truck ran over me.
40:17At that moment,
40:18only my children
40:19passed through my mind.
40:21The possibility of being
40:23an orphan at that moment.
40:26At that moment,
40:28I realized
40:29that I had lost my legs.
40:32As I had knowledge
40:34of first aid,
40:36I had 15 seconds
40:39to react
40:41to be able to save my life.
40:43One of my legs
40:45fell six meters
40:47away from me,
40:49which I went to look for
40:51and came back to the shore
40:53to seek help.
40:55Today, my life
40:57and that of my family
40:59is different.
41:00To you, driver,
41:02be conscious
41:04and drive with prudence.
41:06Be conscious
41:07and drive with prudence.
41:13God.
41:14And today,
41:15when she had that accident,
41:17her child was 3 years old
41:18and he never saw her walk.
41:20Today, it is not known
41:21who hit her.
41:23So,
41:24that imprudence,
41:25as are the cases
41:26we had yesterday,
41:27or yesterday
41:28in Bávaro,
41:29four.
41:30Yes, four women.
41:31Here it is daily,
41:32those who can be documented
41:34and those who cannot.
41:35And what are they?
41:36Lack of imprudence.
41:37So,
41:38we must understand
41:39that from our homes,
41:42each Dominican
41:43who changes their culture
41:45and it is a responsibility
41:46to have a license.
41:48Driving is a responsibility
41:50because your imprudence
41:51directly affects you,
41:53your family
41:54and also others.
41:55Of course.
41:56But today,
41:57in the Dominican Republic,
41:58we must be aware.
42:01Something,
42:02a fact that people
42:03do not even imagine.
42:04The first year of COVID
42:05in confinement,
42:06there were 2,400
42:08and a few dead
42:09due to COVID.
42:10Do you know how many died
42:11due to a traffic accident?
42:12How many?
42:132,900.
42:14So, it exceeded.
42:15And we were in confinement.
42:17God.
42:18We must understand
42:20and everyone who watches your program
42:24to tell their children
42:26what is their responsibility,
42:27but especially them.
42:29There are also people here
42:30who go out to drink,
42:31go out to the beach
42:33and walk with children
42:34without a car seat.
42:36That's right.
42:37And they pass it.
42:38Pass me the boy,
42:39that is.
42:40Or they drive
42:41like a grace
42:42with the baby on their legs.
42:44And they record it.
42:45And they record it.
42:46And they upload it.
42:47So, the use of the cell phone.
42:49That is also one of the pieces
42:51of the campaign
42:52that if you drive,
42:53you don't use your cell phone.
42:54Sometimes people don't understand.
42:56They can put it on speaker,
42:57but it is also a distraction.
42:59You have to know
43:00when and how to use it.
43:02And understand that sometimes
43:03a second looking at a message
43:04and saying, I'm going.
43:05And there you have
43:06an accident in front of you.
43:07And the increase there is
43:09for that use of the cell phone,
43:10you can't imagine.
43:12And from the authorities,
43:14because they have talked
43:15about a new system
43:16for those with a license,
43:17increase in patrol,
43:19what measures are they going to take?
43:21El Intran has three measures
43:22that it is going to develop
43:23this year.
43:24The first is the license
43:25by points.
43:26That is, to try to punish
43:27in a way that is what
43:28the whole people are asking for,
43:29the regime of consequences.
43:31The Dominican understands
43:32and people understand
43:33with punishment.
43:34And it is after
43:35X amount of faults,
43:37to completely eliminate you,
43:39that is, the opportunity
43:40to be able to
43:41get a guide again.
43:42As it happens in other countries.
43:43Exactly.
43:44That model, bring it here.
43:45There is also a monitoring system
43:47that is being integrated
43:48in an inter-institutional way.
43:50After the pact that was signed
43:51with the president,
43:52where more than 121 institutions
43:54and private sector organizations
43:56were involved.
43:57To be able to track
43:59those points,
44:00where you have to give it
44:01with a closed circuit issue,
44:04interconnectivity,
44:05see what happens.
44:06Let it be known
44:07that if you went wrong,
44:08that fine will reach your house.
44:10That is one of the ways.
44:12Also with the DGZ,
44:13that the fines are no longer
44:15going to be put
44:16with the paper,
44:17but it will be with a ticket
44:19that will go to a system.
44:20And we are going to give you
44:21a follow-up on an issue
44:22of imprudence.
44:23That is, there will be
44:24a monitoring,
44:25because you have to understand
44:26what Intran does
44:27and what DGZ does,
44:28that we have worked
44:29together on this.
44:31One inspects
44:32and the other develops
44:34what are the public policies,
44:37so that in reality
44:38people can understand
44:39what one does
44:40and what the other does.
44:41Those critical points
44:42in highways
44:43where we constantly see
44:45accidents in Verón,
44:46in the east,
44:47like this,
44:48on the Duarte highway
44:49there is determined
44:50on November 6 ...
44:51300 people died
44:52last year.
44:53It is the death highway.
44:54God!
44:55Only the Duarte highway
44:56is one of the highways
44:57with the highest rate
44:58and with an increase.
44:59Can't you do an intervention?
45:01Do you have it scheduled
45:02for those points
45:03where accidents
45:04constantly occur?
45:05Yes, we are working
45:06with the Mayor General
45:07and in a regional way
45:08so that those highways
45:09in certain types of points
45:10where in reality
45:11almost the races
45:12and that does not exist
45:13in an urbanized
45:14locality on the sides,
45:15put that monitoring
45:16constantly
45:17and units
45:18that are going to increase
45:19to be able to have
45:20that control,
45:21to be able to identify it.
45:22There are,
45:23in certain types
45:24of highways,
45:25only one unit
45:26that measures you,
45:27the issue of speed,
45:28but that is also going
45:29to start to increase
45:30so that people
45:31on the issue of decreasing,
45:32on the issue of speed,
45:33that there are people
45:34who are not going
45:35to be able to
45:37drive
45:38and our roads
45:39are not so good
45:40for a certain speed.
45:41There is also
45:42an agreement
45:43with the MINER
45:44to be able
45:45to that generation
45:46that comes
45:47with the public
45:48schools
45:49to put it
45:50as the issue
45:51of the 60 hours
45:52and that the children
45:53or the young people
45:54who are leaving
45:55the university
45:56do not have
45:57as a subject
45:58the issue
45:59of road education.
46:00That is,
46:01we are working
46:02with that
46:03so that the campaign
46:04does not simply
46:05stop
46:06because
46:07there are
46:08projects
46:09with the private sector
46:10and private schools
46:11of young people
46:12who are being given
46:13lectures on a
46:14timely basis,
46:15they are going
46:16to give support
46:17and support
46:18to the traffic lights
46:19so that they
46:20also understand
46:21because it is
46:22easier for a
46:23child to tell
46:24a father
46:25Daddy,
46:26put on
46:27the seatbelt.
46:28Daddy,
46:29that is not done.
46:30Of course,
46:31he must be ashamed
46:32of the father.
46:33It is your son
46:34who is the
46:35one who
46:36is the one
46:37who has to
46:38say
46:39that
46:40this is
46:41a
46:42good thing.
46:43It is
46:44a good
46:45thing.
46:46He can
46:47say
46:48yes,
46:49but
46:50it is
46:51not
46:52a good
46:53thing.
46:54It is
46:55not
46:56a good
46:57thing.
46:58But
46:59if
47:00you
47:01have
47:02a
47:03If they give you a drink, ask for a taxi,
47:07try to keep the businesses aware of this issue,
47:10that they can identify.
47:12There are many things and policies,
47:14but it starts with ourselves.
47:16Because sometimes when the state or public policies
47:19invade your privacy, you also feel bad.
47:22So also put it in order.
47:24Sometimes people get upset.
47:26And you have to understand that if we don't do it,
47:29the next generation of young people,
47:31no matter how we go as a country,
47:33will be affected.
47:34In the development of a society,
47:36the issue of being a family
47:38is also an issue.
47:40The cases that have happened in the East,
47:42in the issue of tourism, affect that.
47:44Because people say,
47:45no, the Dominican drives.
47:46The one who drives in the Dominican
47:47drives elsewhere.
47:48Because we drive defensively.
47:50It is an issue that all sectors
47:52must get involved in.
47:54And one of the benefits of this campaign
47:56is that for the first time,
47:57the main advertising companies,
48:00all of them joined as a social network
48:02and said yes.
48:03Because they understood,
48:04without any cost, the importance.
48:06For a whole year, the campaign
48:08will be at the national level,
48:10without any investment cost.
48:12Because they understood the problem
48:14that it has to do with,
48:15and that it affects us all.
48:17You go to a main avenue
48:18and you have a vehicle of an X amount of value,
48:21and you have a car and a motor.
48:22All three are in the same place.
48:24It affects us all.
48:26Everyone suffers the effects
48:29and is at risk.
48:31So we are going to integrate into this campaign.
48:33Congratulations to everyone,
48:35from Caso Doniel as the creative director
48:37and everyone who has joined.
48:39And Engineer Morrison,
48:40who bet on this.
48:41Likewise.
48:42His level of management
48:43and, above all,
48:44the commitment in this new role
48:46in the administration of Intran.
48:48Above all, to raise awareness,
48:50educate,
48:51understand what the reason is
48:53and, above all,
48:54what Intran is.
48:56Because sometimes people have to understand
48:58what the institutions of the state are.
49:00To know who to complain to.
49:02And he, with his modality,
49:03if we are going to implement public policies,
49:05we are going to educate them.
49:06Let them know what is being done
49:07and how it is being done.
49:09And let's change.
49:10Because it is possible
49:11if we all get involved in this.
49:13This government has already given priority to this.
49:16It is up to us all
49:18to put our grain of sand.
49:20That when the visitors come,
49:22they do not say
49:23that they cannot drive here
49:24because we drive like crazy.
49:26That this should be a shame
49:28because they say
49:29the way a person drives,
49:31that reveals their level of education,
49:33their respect for the rules
49:35and their respect for others.
49:36We are going to change that.
49:38And one thing also
49:39to say goodbye to the program
49:40is that everyone
49:41who is watching this program
49:43understands that it has a commitment
49:45in a personal way.
49:46Sometimes what is popular
49:47is what becomes viral,
49:48what people want to consume.
49:50But we must be aware
49:52of what affects our lives
49:54and that of others.
49:55That's right.
49:56Thank you, Jotniel.
49:57See you soon.
49:58And may this campaign be a success.
49:59Thank you, thank you.
50:00And when we return,
50:01don't miss the Nelson Bautista segment.
50:04He was recently in Costa Rica
50:06and brought us a wonderful segment
50:08where he highlights achievements
50:10of that country
50:11in terms of environmental protection.
50:13But above all,
50:14agreements that have been achieved
50:16to work with institutions
50:18of Costa Rica
50:19and the Botanical Garden of Santiago.
50:21When we return.
50:48And now,
50:49the batter is getting ready.
50:51With two outs.
50:57Hello?
50:58Hello.
50:59This is Mr. González.
51:00Uh-huh.

51:16There are better ways
51:17to avoid unwanted calls.
51:19Through the ProUsuario app.
51:21Now you can request

51:23from the marketing lists
51:24of financial entities.
51:26Download the app
51:27on Google Play and App Store.
51:31You just have to tell me
51:32where we send you
51:33the plastic of your card.
51:34Don't tell me.
51:35Avoid creating
51:36improvised garbage cans.
51:37These are big focus
51:38of the dengue mosquito.
51:40Take care of your home
51:41and your neighbors.
51:42It's time to take action.
