00:00One of, to me, the biggest sign that the notion of Mahomes can just flip this switch whenever
00:07he wants was the Houston game.
00:10Because that was a top-five defense in football.
00:15And he looked the same way he had in the regular season.
00:18Made some plays, not that great.
00:20And the notion, again, for a lot of people was, it's Houston, he doesn't care, he's not
00:25trying.
00:26He'll figure it out.
00:27And then he was great against Buffalo.
00:28But to me, Buffalo was a much worse defense.
00:31And then we saw what this looked like against Philadelphia.
00:36So I will go to you first, Donny.
00:37Your takeaway specifically on the Patrick Mahomes performance and maybe what it means
00:43big picture.
00:44Big picture, I don't think it means all that much.
00:46We know how talented a quarterback he is, and the way you get to a quarterback and rattle
00:50him in any situation is, you don't even have to blitz and the four guys are getting home,
00:54which means every time he takes that snap, the first thing he's looking at, did the defensive
00:58tackle blow up my guard?
00:59Is Joe Tooney on the left side who is a guard playing tackle?
01:01Oh my goodness, did he get a handle on a defender?
01:04But for me going forward, you saw what happened a couple of years ago, more than two years
01:08ago, when Kansas City got beat in the Super Bowl by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
01:12Almost the same MO.
01:13They crushed the pocket left and right.
01:15Andy Reid made adjustments by going out in the offseason and rebuilding that offensive
01:19line.
01:20So if you tell me that that same MO was going to happen, which when you lose the Super Bowl,
01:23it stings.
01:24And as soon as you lose, you're like, you know, right back to the chalkboard.
01:26Why did we lose this football game?
01:28Well, we got dominated in the trenches.
01:30So let's just say they get a left tackle that's serviceable and a right tackle that's serviceable
01:34and they go back to have one of the best centers in football.
01:36Tooney, one of the best centers, excuse me, one of the best guards in football goes back
01:40to guard.
01:41They're going to be right back where they were.
01:42Rasheed Rice is coming back next year.
01:44You know, another all, I was going to say a true offseason with Marquise Hollywood Brown
01:48at the wide receiver position and also taking a look at Xavier Worthy.
01:51And they might add on.
01:52Who knows if Travis Kelce is going to come back.
01:53We'll talk about that in just a little bit.
01:55But for me, it was a shocking display of how Patrick Mahomes, he said the 11 QBR rating.
02:02We've never seen that before.
02:03But I'm not looking at this and hey, you know what?
02:05The dynasty is crumbling.
02:06They'll never get back.
02:07Patrick Mahomes isn't 41 years old like Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers at the end of his career.
02:12He is right in the middle of his prime and Andy Reid is coming back next year.
02:15I'm not worried about Kansas City.
02:17They'll be in the playoffs.
02:18They'll be playing for an AFC championship game.
02:20And it won't be crazy if somebody says, you know, Donnie, fast forward.
02:23They're back in the Super Bowl next year.
02:25Adjustments will be made, which means beef up, Joe, that offensive line.
02:29Yeah, there'll be a contender for the AFC championship.
02:32I believe that.
02:33And I think they need to change their offensive philosophy a little bit.
02:36You saw it in garbage time where you saw Pat Mahomes go deep to Xavier Worthy.
02:41Those plays were far and few between throughout the regular season, whether it be the lack
02:46of experience, maybe out of Xavier Worthy and the lack of confidence.
02:50But that was the biggest transformation.
02:52When you look at the offense, when they used to have Tyree kill to what we see now, a lot
02:57of the throws throughout the regular season, even when Rashid Rice was in there, were over
03:01the middle.
03:02They were short to intermediate routes.
03:04We didn't see those chunk plays in terms of post patterns, fly patterns, the aging wide
03:09receiver.
03:10I think in terms of Juju and DeAndre Hopkins hurt them to a capacity and to a degree.
03:17But now when you have Rashid Rice coming back, you have Xavier Worthy and now a healthy
03:22Hollywood Brown, you have to get back to that offensive chunk plays and allowing and putting
03:27the football into your quarterback's hands.
03:30And I'm talking about grip it and rip it, throw it deep so you could set up the rushing
03:34attack.
03:35They need a legitimate running back, the journeyman running backs of Isaiah Pacheco.
03:39Even though he's a younger running back, he's not a lead and explosive.
03:43You need a guy, a homerun hitter, whether it be Gente or someone in this draft that
03:48can take it from point A to point B to take the pressure off of that offensive line.
03:53So I agree that they should try and do those things, but I don't understand why them never
04:00doing any of those things was so okay with everybody.
04:03Well, I do understand it's because they won.
04:05Nobody cared.
04:07But does anybody now want to acknowledge that they haven't looked to the same for a few
04:12years now?
04:13No, we'll be on.
04:14It's not like all the same in the game.
04:16They were winning different ways.
04:17They recognized from an, I believe from an organizational standpoint, they didn't have
04:22the elite speed on the, on the perimeter anymore.
04:25They try to have that with Rasheed Rice.
04:27He was developing into that type of homerun type of hitter.
04:30And then he got hurt against the Chargers.
04:32And all of a sudden their identity and M.O. changed.
04:35We're going to methodically win games, lower scoring, rely on the defense.
04:39But then you get exposed when you play a complete team like the Philadelphia Eagles
04:44that are there from an offensive perspective, but oh, by the way, have the best defense
04:49at every level.
04:50Kev, look at some of these other teams.
04:52You want to talk about some of the teams that they played, the Chargers in the division.
04:56They're not a lead at every level of the defense.
04:59They don't have a legitimate secondary, a legitimate linebacker core and a dominant
05:04front seven.
05:05You can have one or two pieces, but not a complete team.
05:09And that's a difference.
05:10I think when you look at the Eagles, they are legitimately complete at every single
05:15level.
05:16You're talking about four defensive tackles in lineman, linebackers to the Kobe Dean when
05:21he was there in Zach bond, I mean every level for the most part of the secondary.
05:26So where, where do you expose Philadelphia?
05:29You don't.
05:30So I think that that is true.
05:32I just think that if Patrick Mahomes is who everyone thinks he is, and I'm not saying
05:38I'm outside of that, the way he has played for two years now could only be explained
05:45away by he's not trying just wait for the playoffs, right?
05:50And then we saw that was not the case.
05:53These are numbers that we pulled earlier this week on game time decisions.
05:57First five seasons as a starter, passer rating, total touchdown yards per attempt.
06:03First in this league by a mile last two years, 17th and passer rating ninth in total touchdowns
06:11and 20th in yards per attempt.
06:16Is that not concerning to anybody that for two years now in the regular season, he has
06:21statistically has no argument to be seen as a top eight, 10 quarterback in the league.
06:28I think part, I think part of that is the person.
06:31I think part of that is the personnel in the play calling, meaning when Andy Reed says,
06:36you know what?
06:37We don't have speed on the outside, so we're going to call plays underneath.
06:40We're going to go to Travis.
06:41We're going to go to obviously Xavier worthy on sweeps on reverses on short routes.
06:47See if we can.
06:48They don't have or didn't.
06:50I can't remember a game where Pat Mahomes was throwing 25 and 30 yards down the field
06:57vertically.
06:58Everything was underneath Donnie for the most part.
