00:00A lot of Filipinos celebrated the victory of the Philippine Men's Curling Team in Harbin, China.
00:06But how did this sport start?
00:09Let's find out in the report of John Arante.
00:14The Philippines is a tropical country.
00:17So who would have thought that Filipinos would win in a winter sport like curling?
00:23That's why some Filipinos were super proud and surprised when the Philippine Men's Curling Team reached the 9th Asian Games.
00:31Very good because it's a big challenge for Filipinos, especially in the Winter Olympics or Winter Games.
00:39Because we don't have that kind of weather.
00:44So it's a very big challenge, so congratulations.
00:47Very proud because Filipinos are showing that they are good in different sports.
00:56Especially in a game that we are not used to because we have not experienced such an environment.
01:04I was amazed because there is no flow in the Philippines.
01:08Curling is considered the oldest sports in the world.
01:12It started in the 16th century.
01:15Curling became popular in the 18th century and was often played in Scotland.
01:20In 1924, curling became an Olympic sport and became part of the Olympic Winter Games.
01:27In the Philippines, natural sports were introduced in 2000.
01:32The Philippine Curling Association was established in 2006 to expand the knowledge of Filipinos in natural winter sports.
01:41Now, curling has become a way for the Philippines to get their first gold medal in the Asian Winter Games.
01:49A country has proven that the climate is only warm and cold that they can keep up with other powerhouse teams,
01:57such as China and South Korea.
02:00So the question is, what's next for the Philippine curling scene?
02:05The awareness about curling is increasing.
02:08We will be organizing a learn to curl camp for Filipinos who are based in the Philippines and in Asia.
02:14Curling Pilipinas will fund the ice time, will fund the coaches and the translators.
