00:00My name is Rashid Mullah, an Emirati artist born in Sharjah and living right now in Dubai.

00:07I'm a portrait artist. I focus on people's emotions, human emotions, and I love colors.

00:13So most of my portraits are very colorful and currently I'm exhibiting in Koya. Any child

00:18would have so many memories, it's very hard to pick which one is my favorite. But let's stick

00:24to art. So the thing that I remember a lot from my childhood while growing up was that I used to

00:32scribble a lot and I would be, I would get in trouble because I would like, you know, look at

00:40my brother's drawings, sketches, and whatever. I would be stealing some of those drawings and I

00:45would be copying them. So I was, from my childhood, I was being like I was copying so many of those

00:52drawings and I'm archiving them and at one point like I've decided like one time I would, I would,

01:00you know, this is what I want to do. Okay, since I was a kid I knew that I wanted to be an artist.

01:06Apparently like they told me to always choose a major or career that makes me a living

01:12and that's what I did. I listened to them. However, they told me you can always, you know, pursue art

01:18and I do agree with this because I know that art, it's like, it's a feeling, it's emotions. You don't

01:25only learn it from books. Like I don't believe that I would learn art from books. So they told me

01:32focus on your art but at the same time you have to, you have to have a career, okay, where you

01:37have to make a living out of it. Being an artist is like, I do believe that it gives me the freedom

01:44to express, okay, and there is no right or wrong in art and you can do whatever you want to do. So

01:51like this freedom gives me the enthusiasm to do more. Okay, of course that some people will like

01:56it, some people won't like it but and this is why there are two different, so many different tastes,

02:02you know. So if you only make the art that specific people likes you then you will, you will

02:08not be happy. You will be stick to this line of art and you will not try to experiment and honestly

02:14I love experimenting and maybe this is one of the issues I have is I love experimenting.

02:18So I, you know when they say that each artist has his own style, when you love experimenting a lot

02:24your style keeps changing and this is what I love about being an artist. Always have a pen

02:30in my pocket, always have a pen. Like even sometimes when we go out for dinner, me and

02:36wife and she says, do you have a pen? And if for any time I say I don't have the pen, how come you don't

02:43have a pen? So it is surprising for her that if I don't have a pen in my pocket. So I always have

02:48a pen and specifically a pen that I could draw with.
