00:00Are you thinking about changing from WhatsApp to another messenger service?
00:04Signal is emerging as a much better alternative to the popular messaging app.
00:08We tested it out ourselves, and from the looks of it, this app takes it to the next level.
00:13So why are people leaving WhatsApp?
00:15That's because Facebook, which owns WhatsApp,
00:17has updated its privacy policy, causing a global outrage among users.
00:22Many have declared their intention to delete WhatsApp and switch over to another platform.
00:27So why Signal?
00:29Signal is a privacy-focused messenger app,
00:32and it is for that reason that Signal has gained momentum,
00:35following the outrage over WhatsApp's updated privacy policy.
00:39We tried it ourselves and confirmed that the audio and video quality on Signal is very clear.
00:45Here are a few other questions you may have about the app.
00:49Can you have video chats on Signal?
00:51Yes, you can. It supports video calls for free, even in the UAE.
00:56Is Signal safe?
00:58Famous hacker and whistleblower Edward Snowden uses and endorses Signal.
01:02He's not the only one.
01:04CEOs like Elon Musk and Twitter boss Jack Dorsey also recommend Signal.
01:09Is Signal better than WhatsApp?
01:11In terms of privacy features, Signal is better than WhatsApp.
01:15However, if you care about app features,
01:18and the fact that the entire world is currently using WhatsApp,
01:21there's no doubt that WhatsApp is ahead with its estimated 2 billion users.
01:25What we're talking about is the question the public is asking right now,
01:30is about how good is Signal.
01:33We start with the risk.
01:34What is the risk?
01:35Is my privacy being compromised?
01:37No guarantee, but what we understand is Signal is a non-profit organization,
01:42and it is end-to-end encryption, two-way encryption, right?
01:46So then people can ask that, say, WhatsApp doesn't have that.
01:50Yes, WhatsApp has got one-way encryption,
01:53and WhatsApp keeps storing, keeping the data, the metadata.
01:59But Signal is not like that.
02:00Signal works in a different way.
02:02It is as simple as our SMS, common SMS, right?
02:05When your mobile is available.
02:06It's taking my stuff, delivering it to the end.
02:09And both sides, it's two ways encrypted.
02:12So that way we are secure.
02:13Another risk, do they take my privacy?
02:16My contacts, would they leak my contact?
02:19Take the contact away?
02:20Would they use my private pictures and stuff?
02:23That is another question, right?
02:25Definitely, as for us, as of today, I would say in the near future,
02:29they will not take anything because it's a non-profit organization.
02:32Where there is a business mentality, they would have highlighted now,
02:35or it might come maybe a year or two, but till then we are safe to use that.
02:40And it's easy as well.
02:42That is what I understood from that.
02:44And also the compatibility part, that where it is available.
02:48Is it available for iOS, Android and stuff?
02:50Yes, it is placed on the proper secure store.
02:53So as per my understanding as a security person,
02:57what about the code?
02:58It's open, yeah?
03:00Open source.
03:01But the open source, the code is well secure, well maintained.
