WhatsApp is making a drastic update to its app, turning it for the first time into a platform for passively consuming content, similar to the way people scroll through their Facebook or Instagram newsfeeds - and this move could finally usher in a money-making system like advertising. The new feature is being rolled out Monday, letting users share photos, videos, or GIFs, superimposed with drawings, emoji, or captions that'll show up on friends' newsfeeds that will expire after 24 hours, just like Snapchat.
