00:00At least 30 people were injured when a car plowed into a crowd in Munich on Thursday.
00:07The car was driven by a 24-year-old Afghan asylum seeker, and authorities said the motive
00:12is unclear.
00:13They said the incident was likely an attack, and they will put their act together by tightening
00:18repatriations, deportations and legislation.
00:22With all the grief that we have and feel, it is also clear, ladies and gentlemen, that
00:29it still needs to be clarified, but we know that it was again a young Afghan, and we have
00:35to react with all the force of the law.
00:38It cannot be that people come here to our country and commit crimes.
00:43That is why the full force of the law must now be taken.
00:47And we also have to make it very clear to those who come to our country and commit crimes,
00:52serious crimes, that they also have to be deported and also to difficult countries.
00:58He had a rejected asylum application, but after that, through employment, a pardon and
01:06now a so-called residence permit.
01:09And he was, up to this day, and would have been for a long time, in any case,
01:16legally in Germany.
01:17Police said a white car approached their vehicles, escorting a demonstration of striking workers,
01:22before accelerating and ramming into the crowd.
01:25One shot was fired at the suspect, who was eventually arrested.
01:29The incident came hours before international leaders, including US Vice President J.D.
01:34Vance and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, were due to arrive for the Munich security conference.
