00:00We'll start with the Jets, who have spent the last two days telling the world that they
00:05don't want Aaron Rodgers back.
00:07You think they'll do it again tomorrow as well?
00:09It's funny, Scott, you asked me, I don't know, six weeks ago, what's going to happen with
00:14Rodgers?
00:15And I said, look, we're going to have a new GM, that GM likely will not want to have Aaron
00:19Rodgers around.
00:20They want to get younger at the position.
00:22And that's what Darryl Mugee is going to do.
00:26When you look at that situation with the Jets, they don't have the future quarterback.
00:30Let's face it.
00:31Towerhead Taylor is under contract for this next season.
00:34So is Jordan Travis, who I'm told from talking to people with the Jets, he's seen as a project.
00:39So they're another team of my nine right now, just checking with other teams.
00:43There are about nine teams that would tell you that they're not sure who their quarterback
00:46will be for 25.
00:47They can probably tell you who the backups are, but they don't know who the starter's
00:50going to be.
00:51And the Jets now are among those nine.
00:53So they're going to move on from Rodgers.
00:55Rodgers, Scott, has to make a decision on what he wants to do with his career.
00:59And that's the thing.
01:00I'm sure he's not going to want to be a backup.
01:03Why hang on?
01:04He's got all the money in the world.
01:05There's no reason for him to do something like that.
01:07So it's going to be hard for him to find another starting job now.
01:11And you and I will examine some of these teams in future segments.
01:15But the Jets are among a group of teams that don't know who their starter is.
01:19But here's the thing, Scott.
01:21When you look at free agency at the quarterback position, it's not very good.
01:24This is not a year to need a starting quarterback.
01:27Yeah, there's no doubt about it.
01:30So let's talk about this free agency list that you have.
01:34Very light at quarterback.
01:36And I'm going to start with this.
01:38The rumors were flying today about the Steelers going after Trevor Lawrence of the Jaguars.
01:43And there were all these trade scenarios and everything else.
01:47And I want to get your opinion of it, because I've already expressed mine.
01:50I mean, frankly, I'd rather have Justin Fields in him.
01:55I mean, I think he is so overrated, it's not even funny.
01:59And I think that Fields can really run and break ankles.
02:02And I still think if he's working with the right coaches,
02:04he could actually be a better passer.
02:07I mean, I watch Trevor Lawrence.
02:08I think he's gone backwards.
02:11Yeah, what I'm told with that situation, we'll start with Justin Fields and the Steelers.
02:16Arthur Smith actually liked Justin Fields.
02:18He had a couple minor injuries.
02:19And not only do I believe that Russell Wilson won't be back,
02:24it's a situation where the Steelers are still looking for the future quarterback position.
02:28Justin Fields, they don't know enough about.
02:30They liked his limited work with them, particularly in training camp.
02:35Then as I told you to start the regular season, no matter what, it was going to be Russell Wilson.
02:39And you and I talked about it late in the season, Russell Wilson faded significantly.
02:44Sometimes with Russell Wilson, you just get frustrated.
02:47He doesn't always get rid of the football when he should.
02:49You saw what happened in that Chiefs game.
02:50I know you were not happy about that.
02:52And the Steelers were not either.
02:55So the Steelers are going to have another starting quarterback.
02:58That's just the way it is.
02:59But if you look at my list, the number one guy on it is Sam Darnold.
03:02Sam Darnold came out of nowhere.
03:04You got to give Kevin O'Connell credit, one of the all-time coaching shots
03:07at the quarterback position.
03:08This guy never played good football until this season.
03:11Former Jets first-round pick had bounced around a little bit,
03:14but it worked with Kevin O'Connell, the quarterback whisperer.
03:17He's by far the number one guy.
03:18After that, it's the aforementioned Russell Wilson, who literally right now
03:24is a year-to-year quarterback.
03:25That's all he really is.
03:26At this point in his mid-30s, he's hanging on.
03:28He still wants to play.
03:29It's very clear.
03:31But the bottom line is, he's a marginal starter at best.
03:34Justin Fields, I agree, is much younger.
03:37He's got a lot of upside.
03:38But, Scott, here's the thing with Justin Fields.
03:42It's a lack of consistency at his game.
03:44You need a staff that wants to develop this player.
03:46And that's what you're alluding to.
03:48You're definitely right about that.
03:49He's got skills enough to develop, but you've got to be patient with him.
03:54You can't keep changing staffs or not give him a chance to get himself out of it.
03:59At this point, you've got to give him a chance to be the guy.
04:02But if you look at the rest of my list, you've got Journeyman,
04:05Jimmy Garoppolo and his injury history.
04:06He's a fine backup.
04:08Josh Jobs has shown he can be a backup.
04:10Mason Rudolph, your guy, the former Steeler, right?
04:13Andy Dalton, backup.
04:14Jacoby Brissett, backup.
04:16Winston, backup.
04:16Flacco, backup.
04:18Marcus Mariota, that's really it.
04:20That's why, Scott, teams are going to look towards the draft this year.
04:23I know it's not a great year for the draft,
04:26but you're going to hear the name Jackson Dart from Mississippi.
04:29He's a guy, he's going to go in the top 50.
04:31He could, he could go, Scott, late in the first round.
04:34Bo Nix, we were talking about Bo Nix last year at this time.
04:38Most people in the league did not think he had a chance to go in the first round.
04:41Had a great offseason.
04:43And Sean Payton fell in love with him.
04:44And you saw what happened.
04:46He not only was a starter, they made the playoffs.
