00:00Located east of the town of Al-Madan, the Buried Village as it's locally known is just
00:28a 10 minute drive from the central square of Al-Madan in the direction of Al Ain. Don't
00:34know where that is? Don't worry, Google Maps will lead you straight to it when you type
00:38in Buried Village. However, you'll need a sturdy four wheel drive vehicle to tackle
00:43the last bit heading into the village. The village consists of two rows of bleached white
00:49houses and a mosque among the surrounding sand dunes. As you enter, you can immediately
00:55see that the desert has claimed the village. Most of the buildings have sand over and
00:59in them. The quiet desert, the abandoned buildings and half covered village is spooky enough
01:04to give you goosebumps while you're there. People who visit report feeling instantly
01:09disoriented by the silence in the area. After the hustle and bustle of the city, visitors
01:14report that the silence is almost eerie. But how did the town end up this way? Local legends
01:21claim either a jinn, which are supernatural creatures that Muslims believe exist in this
01:25world but are not visible to the human eye. They're also mentioned in the Holy Quran or
01:30perhaps it's the inhospitable desert or maybe it's a combination of both. The village, according
01:36to locals, was once inhabited by the Al-Qutbi tribe, one of the three prominent tribes residing
01:42in and around Al-Madan, a small town governed by the Sharjah Emirate. The village was reportedly
01:48built in the 70s as part of a housing project. However, it is assumed, based on some residents'
01:54accounts reported later, that the town was abandoned. Despite all this, the village remains
01:59a great attraction to visit if you're in the UAE, but you might want to go there with a
02:03large group of people and in broad daylight, you know, just in case.
