00:00If we're just going to talk about the items from the past,
00:04there are a lot of stories that can be told to us.
00:07Like the memorabilia that were found in a museum
00:11as part of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of Manila.
00:16J.P. Soriano is a witness.
00:21In the heart of the history drama of the Red Sun,
00:24the effect of the Battle of Manila was shown
00:27by the Imperial Japanese Army.
00:30And by the Filipino and American allies during World War II.
00:35The characters are fictional,
00:37but their experiences are based on true experiences.
00:40Including the Liberation of Manila,
00:43which is now celebrating its 80th anniversary.
00:48You can still see the actual images
00:51that were taken at the Visitor Center
00:53of the Manila American Cemetery, a museum.
00:56But aside from the pictures of the war,
00:58there are also the memorabilia and tools of the Filipino and American
01:03who fought in the war.
01:05This is how a part of the University of Santo Tomas in Manila
01:10became the largest internment camp for the Americans
01:14and Filipino-speaking Japanese.
01:18Among the people who were helped there
01:19was a 86-year-old boy named Dean Hawk,
01:24whom I met in America.
01:26He was born in the Philippines and the war ended.
01:29The reason that I am alive is because the Filipinos
01:33helped the Americans liberate us.
01:36They got to us an hour before we were actually going to be shot down by the Japanese.
01:41There were also stories of how Filipinos from the outside,
01:44knowing that these were allied POWs inside,
01:47you know, they would sneak in food, medication.
01:49You can also see the pictures and tools
01:53that were obtained during the Bataan Death March,
01:55or the forced deportation of Filipino and American soldiers
02:00while being injured.
02:02And the pictures that are historical
02:04shall return by U.S. General Douglas MacArthur.
02:08It's very important for our younger generations to understand
02:12the enduring value of this partnership,
02:15the shared sacrifice that we have endured together.
02:17We have freedoms.
02:19And those freedoms come at a price.
02:21They were hard fought.
02:23We are open to the public.
02:24Open to the public every single day of the year,
02:26Monday through Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
02:28For GMA Integrated News,
02:31J.P. Soriano is your witness.
