Two Tainan temples have sent delegations to Indonesia to introduce local people to traditional temple culture in Taiwan and the ways Taiwan celebrates the Lantern Festival.

00:00In the Indonesian city of Bogor, not far from Jakarta, people are celebrating in the streets
00:07as the Lantern Festival arrives.
00:09It's a day also celebrated in Taiwan.
00:11And to mark this year's event, two temples from Taiwan's south have sent contingents
00:15here to give the party a Taiwanese flair.
00:20They've brought their temple deities with them, and they're excited to introduce their
00:24beliefs to local Indonesians.
00:35And there are other aspects of Taiwanese temple culture on display, including face-painted
00:40dancers performing in formation, a style of religious performance called jia jiang.
00:57Local reception has been warm, both among Chinese Indonesians, who already share many
01:02of these beliefs, and local Muslims, who may be experiencing this culture for the first
01:06time.
01:15And this is not the terminal stop on the temple's visit to Indonesia.
01:18They're also traveling to the city of Bandung, about a hundred kilometers to the east, until
01:23February 15th, further spreading the spirit of cultural exchange between these two Asian
01:28countries.
