00:00We're gonna begin this midweek winter blast in the Midwest here, and that's where we have widespread problems
00:06That's right. I cue the correspondent Leslie Joe or Leslie Hudson
00:09She's joining us right now from Chicago and earlier those are pretty good-looking
00:12Side up there as far as all the snowfall they've had in Chicago. So let's give us an update
00:22Yeah, it's it's definitely a very windy and cold and Leslie Jones I think was a rock star
00:27So I'll take that call Damien, but as you can see it is I definitely
00:32Snowing out here right now. You can see the river behind me. This is the Chicago River
00:36The snow has not been that bad you guys I must say there's definitely an accumulation on the ground, you know
00:41Guessing that's probably you know, two inches maybe
00:45In these areas, so they're anticipating of course several more
00:49Inches of snow as we head into tonight expecting kind of a secondary ramp up around 9 p.m
00:54This evening now, there's been winter weather advisories all across Chicago and the Midwest in preparation of this winter storm
01:01And we had some video of that. We shot earlier today
01:05Of course, there was a little bit more heavier accumulations with that snow rate. We saw that coming down
01:12Relatively a decent rates around one to two o'clock this afternoon local time and then we've had kind of a lull
01:18So it's there's definitely some flurries
01:20There's a some snow, you know coming down but not what we were expecting at this point
01:25We really thought things were gonna ramp up as we got into the evening hours
01:28I so we'll see how this plays out
01:30Of course
01:30We're anticipating this through tonight and even into tomorrow with those winter alerts up through tomorrow
01:36And then they're also anticipating as we head into the Valentine weekend some bitterly cold air
01:41So that's the other component to this story. So daytime highs here will be in the single digits
01:47That's not including the windchill, you know, that's pretty normal for this area in the dead of winter
01:53But what has not been normal is this snow deficit?
01:56they have been a very very low in the snow department only about 10 inches since winter officially began here in Chicago and
02:03Normally about now there were about 25 inches of snow of accumulations to this day. So definitely below normal
02:09They'll pick up some more inches as we head into these next couple of hours and into tomorrow so far
02:15We haven't seen any big traffic snarls of folks seem to be, you know doing their best around here
02:20They probably do snow better than anywhere here and then in Chicago for now
02:24We are reporting live from the Riverwalk area in downtown, Chicago. I'm Leslie Hudson. All right
02:30Thank you other correspondent and Leslie Jones fan Leslie Hudson. Thank you so much for that update. I'm on board
02:36Thank you, Leslie good stuff and we can take you from Chicago up the lakeshore to Milwaukee right now in southeast, Wisconsin
02:43That's right heavy snowfall right there, but Jeff we're gonna see more snowfalls
02:48We had into this evening and tonight and like we were mentioning earlier get ready for the temperatures to bottom out
02:53Here in parts of Wisconsin. Yeah, this is messy here not easy to manage snowfall rates like this Damian earlier
02:59We talked about the Madison view where we were a little bit west where the snowfall rates were not as heavy as this
03:05Here we're actually a little milder. So this is the wetter snow in Milwaukee
03:09But 25 degrees still 7 below the freezing but it's coming down covering the roads there and it's a tough one to manage here for
03:16The road crews those deeper blue streaks a couple of bands of slightly heavier snow on the radar
03:21indicating where the snowfall rates are a bit more impressive than the
03:25Intermediate zones where it's a little bit lighter and maybe easier to manage
03:29We're also tracking some ice through the interior northeast and parts of the mid-atlantic here where we've been dealing with some cold air
03:35That's been kind of stuck up against the low levels of the atmosphere east of the mountains
