Malhotra plays the larger-than-life Raghu who is fostered by a morally bankrupt gangster (Nasser) and is raised to be his glorified henchman. Reams of bombastic dialogue about loyalty and love later, Raghu meets the angelic and non-verbal Zoya and falls in love with her.

00:00Raise your hand if you think star-crossed romances are out of style.
00:03Well, welcome to Marjawa, which is like the umpteenth Bollywood movie
00:07about two lovers who are not destined to be together.
00:14It was Amitabh Bachchan who brought the 80s angry young man into fashion.
00:19But there is Siddharth Malhotra who is this year's modern Casanova trying to attempt to do the same.
00:26But the only catch is he simply does not have the charisma
00:29or the gravitas of Mr. Bachchan to carry off this role.
00:32So Marjawa is basically very painful. I prefer a root canal to this procedure.
00:37It's a story as old as the hills.
00:39There are two lovers who meet. Why do they fall in love? We have no clue.
00:43Siddharth Malhotra plays an orphan, a boy from the streets of Mumbai.
00:47He is, you know, he's an orphan. He has nobody.
00:50And he's picked up from the street by this gangster,
00:54water mafia don played by Nasir.
00:57Now, South Indian star is trying to be very serious about it.
01:00But the sad part is the bombastic dialogues let them down.
01:03Here's a story that you've seen before in Bollywood films.
01:06I mean, this orphan who has this misplaced sense of loyalty towards his foster dad
01:13and then does all his wrongs on his behalf, basically kills for him
01:17and does basically his henchman.
01:20He's just a glorified henchman.
01:22And Siddharth Malhotra is in a fix when he falls in love.
01:25And the woman is mute and also very, very stupid, I must add.
01:29She sees things that she should not be seeing.
01:31There is Tara Sotaria who plays this role of Zoya.
01:34She plays this very innocent Kashmiri girl.
01:37I have to say she looks like a million dreams.
01:39But the only issue is that she's incredibly stupid in this movie.
01:43Why else would you trail after a bunch of goons doing some very unseemly things?
01:47You shouldn't be there in that place.
01:49But yet she follows him, tries to save him despite not having any backup.
01:54So it's very odd.
01:55This movie is an example of how people who have absolutely no brains,
01:59collective IQ of, let's say, of less than an average person
02:03coming together and trying to make a bombastic movie.
02:06It's larger than life.
02:07You have dialogues written by almost like a seven-year-old, you know, who's on a sugar high.
02:13They all seem to rhyme.
02:15And even the villain who's played by a very talented actor like Ritesh Deshmukh.
02:19He's a diminutive man in this.
02:21He plays a dwarf who has this daddy issue.
02:24He thinks his dad loves the orphan more than his own flesh and blood.
02:29And he has this, you know, set of complexes.
02:32This is a story about two grown-up men who simply should talk instead of exchanging bullets.
02:37We've seen so many romances where you see this man fall in love
02:40with the most angelic looking woman.
02:43They don't even have a conversation.
02:45It's always love at first sight and some flirting follows.
02:48And then he's ready to die for her.
02:50Somehow in this age of Tinder and speed dating,
02:54this kind of romances seem really archaic and outdated.
02:58In terms of performances, there's Siddharth Malhotra who tries very hard.
03:02I know they look very good.
03:03Both Siddharth, Tara Sutaria, Ritesh Deshmukh, they all look good on the screen.
03:08But at the end of the day, if you're let down by a bad storyline,
03:12a storyline that has been outdated and clunky dialogues that rhyme,
03:16then there's simply no saving grace in this film.
03:20Regarding the twists in the movie,
03:22this movie is one of the most predictable movies of 2019.
03:27You can sense the twists that are coming from a distance.
03:30And if everything is going wrong in the movie,
03:34the makers have found this novel idea to actually try to bring us back.
03:39It might work for some men or women.
03:41If you like the idea of women like Rakul Preet Singh
03:44gyrating to some racy number, there's a club song,
03:49then perhaps this is your thing.
03:50But for me, it just somehow did not stick.
03:53The songs sounded like it's been forced into the storyline about two warring brothers.
04:00In terms of the pace as well, it's painfully slow.
04:03You have to give it to Siddharth Malhotra for trying to get out of his comfort zone.
04:08Full marks to him for that.
04:09But just because you stepped out of the comfort zone
04:11does not mean that you're good at what you're doing.
04:13I'm going with a very generous 1.5 out of 5.
04:17Watch this only if you are a diehard fan.
04:19And by diehard, I actually mean you might die a small death while watching this movie.
04:24But if it's the love for Siddharth that's keeping you alive, then go for it.
