00:00-"This is the best Christmas ever."
00:02-♪♪ I'm dreaming of a white Christmas. ♪♪
00:12Welcome to Ms. Mojo,
00:13and today we're counting down our picks for the times ghosts U.S. unexpectedly hit us in the feels with tears of joy and sadness.
00:21-"It's just nice to have someone to share my actual feelings with."
00:25If you're not caught up, don't get haunted by spoilers.
00:29Number 10, the S-car ghost.
00:31After Jay steps on a snail, turning it into a ghost, the Woodstone dwellers decide to take it into their care.
00:37Everyone's invested, except Trevor, who shrugs off the whole pet attachment thing.
00:41-"No, I understand what a pet is. I'm just not interested in having one. It's done."
00:46-"Wasn't your obituary photo of you and your dog?"
00:49-"That was my parent's dog, and honestly, I wasn't that into him. You have to walk them and pick up their crap."
00:54When the ghostly snail goes missing, suspicion falls on Thorfinn,
00:58who had been pretty keen on eating it, but then Trevor confesses to taking it.
01:02Why would someone so uninterested in pets steal it?
01:06Turns out he hadn't been entirely honest before.
01:08-"But then one day, the day I died, I never came home. I just feel so guilty.
01:16He was never anything but loyal to me, and I let him down."
01:20In one of Trevor's few sentimental moments,
01:22we learn that he's still grappling with guilt and sadness over being separated from his dog Bucky.
01:27In the end, Trevor faces his emotions, which ultimately helps the snail move on.
01:32-"Maybe I can't say it to Bucky, but I can say it to you. You're a good boy."
01:37-"Oh, my God. Uh, it's happening!"
01:46Number 9. Sam reunites with her mom.
01:49Sam and her mom had a complicated relationship in life, and death hasn't exactly changed that.
01:53-"We're sorry about your mom, Sam." -"Thank you. It was six years ago. Honestly, I'm excited.
01:58I never got a chance to say goodbye, and now I might get to see her, so that's amazing."
02:02Determined to seize a rare chance, Sam and Jay visit the restaurant where her mom passed,
02:06hoping she's become a ghost.
02:08The reunion starts off strong, but quickly falls into old patterns, leaving Sam frustrated.
02:13-"Not even my lies are good enough for you." -"Your lies?"
02:16-"Yes, I don't work for the New York Times. I just said that because I wanted you to admit
02:20you were wrong about the whole journalism thing,
02:22but apparently nothing I ever do will be good enough for you, Mom."
02:24Thanks to another restaurant ghost, Sam learns what her mom truly thinks of her.
02:28This time, she even gets to say goodbye.
02:31It's a gift most people can only dream of, making their reconnection deeply touching.
02:35-"You've turned out amazingly. I'm so proud of you. The criticism worked. Bye, Mom. Goodbye, honey."
02:51In a later episode, Hedy confronts her regrets about parenting, and sees a chance for a do-over with Sam.
02:57Sam welcomes Hedy as her second mom, with boundaries, of course.
03:01-"Well, maybe this is a second chance for both of us."
03:04-"That's a nice way to think of it."
03:06-"So you'll agree to always listen to me from now on?"
03:09-"Only if you agree to let me make my own mistakes when I disagree,
03:12because sometimes they're not mistakes, and I know what I'm talking about."
03:18This is the first time we see one of the ghosts take possession of a living.
03:22Hedy soon gets very comfortable in her, or should we say, Jay's body, and refuses to be exercised.
03:27-"Ooh! Boiled calf's head! Ha ha! Herring pudding! Eel pie! Beaver tail! And squaw."
03:35Naturally, this leads to some hilariously chaotic moments,
03:38not to mention an outstanding performance by Utkarsh Ambutkar.
03:42Eventually, Hedy confesses all her regrets over not living her life to the fullest.
03:46-"I didn't live the life I should have. There's so many things I didn't get to do. I've never been to Paris."
03:54-"Okay."
03:55-"Well, now I have another chance, and I'm not going to waste it!"
03:58However, while trying to make a break for it in Sam and Jay's car,
04:01she forgets the cardinal rule for most ghosts. They can't leave the property.
04:06When Hedy says au revoir to her dreams, she encourages Sam to learn from her mistakes.
04:11-"Don't live your life with regrets, Samantha.
04:14Go after your dreams, because you are only here for a short time.
04:18If you're lucky."
04:20-"That's good advice."
04:21Number 7. Statue Sam.
04:23Historically, Puritans weren't known for being fun.
04:26Struggling with modern life, Patience puts Sam on trial for witchcraft.
04:30The ghosts initially play along. What's a few moments out of eternity, right?
04:34-"The group has spoken. Sam is a witch, and Patience, once again,
04:38thank you for a delightful diversion. This was fun."
04:42-"She had been convicted now for the punishment."
04:45-"Oh, okay. There's a part two."
04:48However, they panic when they find a statue that looks just like Sam,
04:51whom Patience had sentenced to petrification.
04:54They freak out after Jay sells the Sam statue,
04:57but that is nothing compared to when he accidentally breaks it after Flower walks through him.
05:02-"Oh, he's hot."
05:03-"No! No! No! Sam! Sam!"
05:11It's almost as if time freezes as the shock and horror wash over everyone.
05:16It's moments like these that make us appreciate our loved ones that much more.
05:20And luckily, it turns out that the only person who got stoned in this episode is Jay.
05:25-"I thought I lost you, and it was the worst feeling in the world.
05:30I'm so sorry that I yelled at you for wanting to celebrate Halloween.
05:33I love that you're excited about that stuff."
05:36Number 6. Pete's Scouting Legacy.
05:38A camera crew asks Sam and Jay to film an episode of Dumb Deaths about Flower.
05:43However, they decide to pivot to Pete's story instead.
05:46As his death is recreated, Pete starts feeling worse about how it all happened.
05:50-"What drives Pete Martino? Who is Pete Martino?"
05:56-"A good-hearted man, kind to his family and troops."
05:59-"Dude, he's an idiot. Got killed by a little girl."
06:01-"Okay, that's another take."
06:02It's tough enough having his life cut short, but now his memory is being dragged through the mud.
06:07Talk about rubbing salt in the arrow wound.
06:09So Sam invites one of Pete's former troop girls, who gives a more accurate character evaluation.
06:15Unfortunately, she also highlights his fatal error.
06:18-"For some reason on that day, I remember him handing out the bows and arrows before the safety demonstration."
06:23-"What? That's not true."
06:24-"Forty years seems like an awfully long time for such a small detail."
06:28-"No, this I'm sure about. He just seemed really distracted. He kept muttering something about donut holes."
06:32Yet when an emergency strikes, Jennifer saves the day, thanks to lessons from her old troop leader.
06:37Pete realizes his legacy is more than one mistake.
06:40-"Wait, so Jennifer can hear ghosts?"
06:44-"No, she just remembers."
06:48-"Because you were a good troop leader."
06:52-"I guess I was."
06:56Throughout the series, we've learned some tear-jerking details about Flower's past.
07:00Like her ex starting a coffee shop in her honor, and her estrangement from her family.
07:05-"All these years, I thought my little sister died hating me."
07:09-"To learn that she didn't fills me with a great peace."
07:13-"She was the kindest person I've ever met, and I loved her so much."
07:17In this episode, we find out why she has such a hard time giving her heart to Thor, and it hits hard.
07:22The morning after their first date, Flower acts like she doesn't remember anything.
07:26But it turns out that's just a front.
07:28-"If it went well, then Thor and I could end up together, and it might be really amazing, and we could fall in love."
07:33-"Those are all good things."
07:35-"No, Sam, don't you see? Good things don't last."
07:39She tells Sam that she's scared to get into a monogamous relationship because her last one ended in heartbreak.
07:44We're so used to seeing Flower at her ditziest,
07:47so learning that she had been carrying around all this pain is truly heartbreaking.
07:52-"Thor not saying that no bad things can ever happen, but when they do, maybe we could be there for each other."
08:01-"Maybe we can."
08:04Alberta's number one fan, Todd Pearlman, might be a bit eccentric,
08:08but he unknowingly brings Alberta some closure in her afterlife.
08:11-"There's a ton of people just saying really nice things about Alberta."
08:14-"Just listen to her album. She's incredible! How did I never hear of her before? Daddy would be proud."
08:23However, in a later episode, even Todd is turned off by the former jazz star when he discovers her secret while researching for a podcast.
08:30-"She went against the entire code that she lived by!
08:33I've dedicated my entire adult life to the study and appreciation of this woman,
08:38but now I'm not even sure I know who she is."
08:41Alberta's feelings about snitches have always been clear,
08:44so it's shocking to learn that she was one too.
08:47But it's hard to stay mad at her when she explains why.
08:50-"Things weren't easy for a woman my size back then.
08:53Sure, we had Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith, but that didn't mean that was what the club owners were looking for.
09:00And I was tired of being overlooked."
09:03Showbiz is tough, especially for women who don't look a certain way.
09:07She did what she had to do.
09:09It's hard to fault Alberta when you realize that she was just hitting back at an unjust society.
09:14-"I struggle like everyone else, but I don't let that show.
09:18I need to be my loudest fan, because God knows there's always been plenty of folks trying to tear me down."
09:24-"Okay, I didn't even think this was possible, but this makes me love you even more."
09:28In season one, we learned that the circumstances surrounding Trevor's death are not exactly what he's led on.
09:36-"You take my money clip, you get a cab. I want that back Monday, though."
09:39-"Serious? Thank you, Trevor.
09:42Oh, wait, a cab's not gonna let you in without any pants on.
09:46I learned that the hard way during my run of fun."
09:48It's not until season three that we discover the truth about Hedy's passing.
09:51The ghosts need to rescue Flower, who has been trapped down a well for a while.
09:56With the clock ticking, they deliberate on how to do it,
09:59but Hedy offers a solution that also reveals her darkest secret.
10:02-"You grab onto this, you dirty bohemian!"
10:09-"I got it!"
10:13-"Come on, Flower! Pull her up! Pull her up!"
10:17We learn that her husband Elias left her to face the consequences of his shady actions.
10:22Trapped and desperate, she turned to irreversible measures.
10:25We felt our hearts shatter into a million pieces
10:28as Hedy allowed the others to see her vulnerability in order to save a friend.
10:32-"I did not know how to ask for help. I didn't even know that the telephone dialed out.
10:37At the time, I saw no other way out.
10:40But it was a mistake that I deeply regret."
10:46Like its UK counterpart, Ghosts takes a look at sexuality through a unique historical lens.
10:51-"I like you. You like me?"
10:57-"Yeah, please don't make me say it again."
11:01-"Well, I like you too, Isaac."
11:04We watch Continental Army officer Isaac come to terms with his sexuality
11:08and feelings for a British revolutionary ghost, Nigel.
11:11At first, Isaac tries to bottle up his truth because of the times he lived in,
11:15but he eventually opens up to Hedy in one of the most heartwarming moments of the series.
11:20-"Yes, I just felt that if I ever spoke of these matters out loud,
11:23it would mean that everything that came before it was a lie.
11:28But if that is what it takes to speak the truth, then so be it.
11:32And I am so, so deeply sorry."
11:34-"All for deceiving you."
11:36Still, he has a hard time getting close to Nigel because he feels guilty about his former wife.
11:40Thankfully, Sass helps him work through that.
11:43While things aren't always smooth sailing from there,
11:46Isaac and Nigel's first kiss warmed us down to the very cockles of our hearts.
11:50Before we unveil our top pick, here are some honorable mentions.
11:55Sam gets another chance at a high school dream.
12:09Hedy's bedtime angel.
12:11Hedy remembers her childhood bedtime buddy.
12:13-"Your pillaged villages, slit men's throats and bash their heads against the wall.
12:20There you go, Hedy. There you go."
12:23Thor and his son reunite.
12:25It's a rocky start, but the moment after Bjorn says,
12:28Father, hits us right in the heart.
12:30-"Father! Are you still there?
12:36I am here, son!
12:38What did you want to say?
12:40That...
12:42I love you!
12:44Thank you for coming to find me!"
12:46Sassopi's stories.
12:48Sass sheds his imposter syndrome.
12:50-"It goes to show,
12:52that us ghosts and the livings
12:55are more connected than we realize."
12:59Isaac's dinosaur.
13:01Their breakup hit us hard, but this moment gave us hope.
13:04-"I didn't think you knew anything of the subject, or cared for it."
13:07-"I didn't, but I was meant to marry a man obsessed with dinosaurs.
13:11I studied them to be able to talk with my husband about his favorite subject.
13:16It was going to be your wedding present."

13:34Pete's family visits.
13:36Pete is the sweetest guy, but sadly, that's not always appreciated by everyone,
13:41like his wife Carol.
13:42After finding her online, Pete convinces Sam to invite his family to the mansion.
13:46-"Jerry! Carol! They can't see me."
13:49-"I'm Carol, obviously. Hello."
13:52-"Hey, Jay."
13:53-"This is Jerry, my husband."
13:56-"Did you say husband?"
13:58He soon discovers that Carol had moved on from their marriage shockingly fast.
14:02So fast, they were still married at the time.
14:05He's understandably furious, but Sam reminds him of his core values
14:09as outlined in his old trooper manual.
14:11-"He wrote that this is more important than the rest,
14:13because though we strive for perfection, we all fall short sometimes.
14:17And when it happens, we don't give up on our fellow trooper. We forgive."
14:22The story has a somewhat happier ending when Pete learns he's a grandfather,
14:25and his grandson is named in his memory.
14:28-"Someone couldn't find their special socks. Could you, Pete?"
14:33-"Aww."
14:35-"Did you hear that? His name's Pete. I'm a grandpa."
14:42In a later season, Pete even gets to walk his daughter down the aisle.
14:45We're not crying. A ghost just walked through us.
14:48Which moment had you reaching for the tissues? Let us know in the comments.
14:52-"I'm sorry you can't just snap your fingers and expect somebody to move on
14:56when they've just lost one of their best friends."
14:58-"No, I thought this is what you wanted.
15:00You've always said your mission is to help them move on."
15:03-"It is what I want, but that doesn't mean it's easy."
