00:00Apple intends this to be the new cheap model.
00:03Have no doubt, this is still a 3,000 DERM smartphone.
00:07Okay, this is the iPhone XR.
00:16It's a lot cheaper though than the other phones.
00:17The new iPhone XS retails starting at about 3,000 DERMs.
00:22The Max, if you get the full version with the half terabyte storage, that's almost 6,000
00:28DERMs, almost $1,600 US.
00:30So this is a lot cheaper than the other versions, although it is still a very powerful smartphone
00:36and still a relatively expensive one.
00:38What's the difference?
00:39Because you're probably asking, well, why is it cheaper?
00:41Well, there are a couple of differences between this phone and the other phone, the XS and
00:47the XS Max.
00:48Now, the first thing is you're going to notice the screen is not maybe as crystal clear as
00:54contrasty as the other versions.
00:57On the XS and the XS Max, Apple has gone with an OLED screen, which is a much more
01:03expensive screen and is in general a pretty good screen.
01:06This isn't bad either.
01:07This is the same screen we saw on the iPhone 8, which is a serious step down, but not one
01:13that most people are going to find to be critical.
01:16It certainly justifies the price.
01:18This one starts at about 3,000 DERMs, so you're getting about 80% of the same items you got
01:24with the iPhone XS, but you're getting it for about half the price.
01:28So some of the other things that are similar, you have the same chipset in this phone as
01:33you do in the other iPhone.
01:34They're all working on the same chipset, so you're all going to have the same amount of
01:37processing power.
01:39On the back end, you're going to notice that there's only one camera.
01:42If you look at the current XS and the XS Max, you're going to see that there's two cameras
01:47on the back, which helps with things like portraits and lighting and depth of field.
01:52This has a lot of that functionality, but it's not all there.
01:56You also get a wider range of colors with this.
01:59This actually comes in six colors, and apparently they're saying that the backside, which is
02:03all glass, is a lot stronger than the previous iPhone X, the original, which is a good thing
02:09because I managed to shatter my iPhone X after about six months.
02:13Getting used to a glass back can be a little bit of a problem.
02:16There's a couple other things which Apple is pushing right now, which really doesn't
02:19have anything to do specifically with the iPhone XR, and that's this new augmented reality
02:24feature and the new series shortcuts feature.
02:28Now, the shortcuts feature may or may not be something you're really into unless you're
02:32really into the digital assistant, but you can actually go in now and set up a bunch
02:36of features.
02:37Instead of having to go through 20 steps to turn a bunch of pictures into a GIF, you can
02:41set that up by just simply hitting one single button.
02:44That is the iPhone XR in a nutshell.
02:47It's very similar to the iPhone XS.
02:50It's going to have a screen with less resolution, but you're still looking at the same processing
02:54power and a lot of the same features.
02:56So if you're interested, check it out.
02:58It'll be available in the UAE this Friday.
03:01Its starting price is about 3,100 dirhams.
03:05This is Scott Shuey for Overclocked.
