00:00Halloween gives a perfect excuse to carve a pumpkin, indulge in sweets or watch a scary
00:10film. But for mum and son duo Adam Rickards and Ellen Kendall, it is the chance to open
00:16up their doors to their home in Aldbury and showcase thousands of pounds worth of spooky
00:20decorations to raise money for charity.
00:22We're at our house, this is the Haunted House in B69. We've done it for five years now.
00:26We used to decorate for parties every year. And in 2019, mum said, let's leave it all
00:31up and open the house to the community. And since then, it's turned to this. I took two
00:36weeks off work. Me and mum have been doing it since, I'd say the second week in October
00:40we put the roof up in the back garden. And we started decorating properly last Monday
00:45and we finished today.
00:49As you can see, the queues have already started building. I think I'm more excited than these
00:54if I'm honest, yeah. It's just something we enjoy doing every year. It brings the community
00:58together and do it for charity. And doing it for the Ambulance Insurance. And my partner
01:04did break his back back in February 2009 and he was airlifted to hospital. So if we can
01:10raise significant amounts of money for him this evening, that'd be fantastic.
01:15The Halloween house attracts dozens of families each year who line the streets and wait their
01:19turn to take a look inside.
01:21We come every single year and it just gets bigger and bigger and bigger every year. We
01:25base our route of trick-or-treating around this being about the middle ground. Yeah,
01:30every year we do the same.
01:31The one time when I went, there was like a spider that jumped out and that was quite
01:36good. But yeah, it's just a fun time.
01:39We've come for the last couple of years and obviously they pull it all out every year.
01:43It's really nice what they do.
01:45It's nice to be back because not many people do Halloween anymore. It's a shame because
01:51it's normal. It's fun to hear. It's just to enjoy. And like you said, everybody gets
01:56together. So yeah, I think it's good to be back. And it's all for charity as well, what
02:01they do.
