00:00Good day and welcome to the Gulf News update for Thursday January 19th. Here are the top
00:06stories at this hour. Barack Obama held his last press conference
00:10as the US President to offer an assured outlook for a country governed by Donald Trump who
00:15takes office on Friday. At my core, I think we are going to be OK. We just have to fight
00:20for it, work for it and not take it for granted, Obama said during the conference at the White
00:24House. Conceding that Trump may not take his advice
00:27on issues, Obama said he would avoid weighing in on specific policy matters during his
00:31post-presidency. Iraq's government forces were cleaning up
00:34tiny pockets of Daesh militants in eastern Mosul a day after the army announced the eastern
00:39part of the city was fully liberated. The Iraqi advance was aided by US air support
00:44and military advisers. But after weeks of heavy fighting and high casualties, the older
00:49and more densely populated western neighbourhoods of the city still remain in Daesh hands.
00:55Electric cars will soon make up 90% of all vehicles on the road and people will have
00:59the ability to send energy just as easily as they send data today. The State of the
01:03Future report issued at the World Economic Forum in Davos by Dubai Future Academy contained
01:08over 100 forecasts for the next 40 years. It predicts that solar energy is also expected
01:14to become as cheap as coal or as cheap as your regular utility bill in the next five
01:18years. Indian actress Priyanka Chopra has won the
01:21Favourite Dramatic TV Actress at the People's Choice Awards 2017 for her role in the American
01:27drama TV series Quantico. This is the second People's Choice Award for Priyanka who bagged
01:33her first award in 2016 in the Favourite Actress in a New TV Series category for her role in
01:39the same series. Hollywood star Dwayne Bravo who will be seen
01:43sharing screen space with Priyanka in the upcoming film Baywatch was seen cheering for
01:47her at the event. Paul McCartney has filed a lawsuit in Manhattan against Sony ATV over
01:53copyright ownership of the many hit songs he wrote with John Lennon as part of The Beatles.
01:58The copyrights were famously bought by Michael Jackson in 1985 and then fully sold over to
02:03Sony ATV following his death. McCartney has long wanted the copyrights and the filing
02:08says he will claim them back under a provision of US copyright law that makes that possible
02:13certain time. And finally, the weather today is high across the UAE with 24 degrees Celsius
02:19dropping to 17 degrees at night. That's all for now, thank you for watching. We will be
