00:12level? We've come to meet an Emirati lady who's so passionate about bringing cultural
00:16films from around the world to the UAE that she set up her own screening room.
00:20Cinema Al Qeel is an independent cinema platform based in Dubai, dedicated to bringing the
00:25best in international, independent, world, classic cinema to audiences in the UAE.
00:30I started Cinema Al Qeel because I felt like the city was at a point where all these conversations,
00:37all these people were very active in the art circuits, in the creative industries. There's
00:43a lot of new energy coming back into the city, starting new things. SMEs bursting left, right
00:50and center, and people yearning for a place to congregate and have interesting conversations
00:55and they share stories and learn about each other and have windows to other cultures and
01:00other ideas, in a way. For me, film is the best way to do that. It's like a snippet of
01:07real life from everywhere. The UAE is one of the biggest contributors to filmmaking
01:11in the Arab world, to contemporary independent films. I felt like there was a need to create
01:19a space where those films are being shown, they're being exhibited, there's a conversation
01:22around them, you get to know the filmmakers beyond the film festivals. Since we've been
01:27following the Instagram account of Cinema Al Qeel, it's really made us to come here
01:31to see an independent movie, because seeing some fresh movie like this one and an Oscar
01:38nominated movie is a big opportunity here in Dubai. Their screenings are always interesting,
01:44it's very different, it's very varied and you see a lot of independent movies that you
01:50wouldn't really see at the movie theaters. Hussainah's free screenings of arthouse films
01:55is giving the people in the community the opportunity to experience an independent cinema,
