00:00Good day. Welcome to the Gulf News Update for Wednesday, April the 1st. Here are the
00:09top stories at this hour. Russia and Iran claimed a breakthrough in talks
00:14on a framework deal cutting back Tehran's nuclear program, but the U.S. denied everything
00:18had been agreed as discussions were due to resume today. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei
00:23Lavrov told Russian media that global powers had reached an agreement in principle on all
00:29key aspects of the final settlement. But there was confusion on the status of the
00:33negotiations as ministers from world powers and Iran met deep into the night, working
00:38past the March 31st midnight deadline. Nigerian election winner Mohamedou Bahari congratulated
00:44outgoing President Good Luck Jonathan for peacefully relinquishing power a day after
00:49becoming the first Nigerian politician to unseat a sitting leader at the ballot box.
00:55In an unprecedented step, Jonathan phoned Bahari to concede defeat and issued a statement
01:00urging his supporters to accept the result, a signal of deepening democracy in Africa's
01:05most populous nation that few had expected. The Netherlands once again proved too good
01:10for an underpass Spain last night as goals from Stéphane Devry and Davy Klaassen handed
01:15the hosts a 2-0 friendly win in Amsterdam. Elsewhere, Tottenham winger Andros Townsend
01:20came off the bench to steal the limelight from club teammate Harry Kane with a late
01:25equalizer in England's 1-1 draw against Italy in Turin. Meanwhile, Cape Verde upset
01:30a weakened Portugal 2-0 in Estoril. The hosts lacked many stars including Cristiano Ronaldo.
01:36Trevor Noah, the newly announced host of The Daily Show, rejected the backlash over
01:40his graphic tweets targeting Jews and women as an unfair reflection of him and his comedy.
01:47To reduce my views to a handful of jokes that didn't land isn't a true reflection of my
01:51character nor my evolution as a comedian, Noah posted on his Twitter account, the same
01:57one that included past tweets others deemed offensive.
02:01And finally, today's weather. Highs across the UAE will be 39 degrees Celsius dropping
02:05to 24 tonight.
02:06That's all for now. Thanks for watching and as always you can get the latest news on gulfnews.com
