00:11Selfies while driving a car at 120 kilometers per hour is sheer madness, Sharjah Police
00:17said while launching a safe driving campaign on Sunday. Police are cracking down on people
00:21who use their mobile phones while driving after figures showed that over the past seven
00:25months, 8,154 motorists were fined for the offense. The figures for the same period in
00:322013 stood at 7,251.
00:36British actor Richard Attenborough, who starred in Jurassic Park and directed the Oscar-winning
00:41film Gandhi, has died. He was 90. The actor, whose career spans six decades, has been dogged
00:47by bad health for a while, his family said. British Prime Minister David Cameron issued
00:52a statement calling him one of the greats of cinema.
00:55Egypt will be hosting a meeting of foreign ministers of Libya and its neighbors today
00:59as Islamist militias openly challenge the legitimacy of parliament. Almost three years
01:04after a NATO-backed revolt ousted strongman Muammar Gaddafi, Libya has been roiled by
01:09fighting between ex-rebels who have formed militias.
01:13Continued Israeli airstrikes in Gaza left two Palestinians dead overnight, taking the
01:17number of killed Palestinians in the seven-week conflict to 2,122. Meanwhile, Iran's
01:24Revolutionary Guard said it downed an Israeli stealth drone near the Natanz uranium enrichment
01:29site.
01:30More than 5.8 million visitors stayed in Dubai's hotels during the first six months of the
01:34year, up from around 5.5 million visitors during the same period in 2013. Dubai's Department
01:41of Tourism and Commerce Marketing said the visitors' numbers were the highest ever
01:46recorded for the first half of the year.
01:48British singer Gary Barlow is coming to Dubai on October 17. The Take That frontman will
01:54perform at the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre for a one-off performance, which will also
01:59mark the end to his Since I Saw You Last tour.
02:03And finally, weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 34 degrees Celsius, dropping
02:08to 32 degrees at night.
